What if...
Two
She was more than a little nervous. She was approaching the house of a complete stranger.
She kept checking the text she had got from Edmund to make sure that she had got the right date, time and house.
What happened if he wasn't there yet? What if she was turned away?
The hope of being able to see him again made her ring the doorbell.
The door opened and a tall smiley woman stood there.
"Um, hi...my name's Sarah...I'm Edmund's friend?" she began.
"Oh of course! The american girl! Of course! Come in!" the smiley woman said, "I'm Annabel. I'll introduce you to people later, I'll try not to over load you with names."
"Thanks," Sarah said quietly. She tried hard not to be obviously looking out for Edmund.
Annabel led her to the kitchen and got her a drink.
"Thanks," Sarah said as she was handed the glass, "And thanks for having me I suppose."
"Oh don't mention it. I told people to bring friends along. This is supposed to half be a promotion party for me anyway, and I just wanted to fill the house now that its done," Annabel shrugged with a smile.
Another woman with short, dark hair walked in and filled her glass with water.
"Isabel, this is Sarah," Annabel said as though it had greater meaning.
"Hi," Isabel said indifferently, "So you met Edmund on the train?"
"Yeah. Good thing I missed the previous one I suppose," Sarah said in reply. She had got to the point where she was wondering why she was here at all. Even when Edmund did get here he'd probably only say hi to her briefly and leave her to get to know the other friends.
He was only trying to help her make friends after all. Sarah was trying hard not to read anything else into it. The last thing she needed was to have to endure falling for the first friend she made in the country.
"Funny how things like that can play out," Isabel remarked, "one small thing that can change everything."
"Yeah," Sarah mused, wondering where she would be had she not missed that train, or not had the guts to say anything to Edmund, or even if she had chickened out of this party.
Then the man himself entered and he and Sarah shared a little smile when they saw each other.
“Hi,” they said quietly to each other.
“Ahh, Annabel I was wanting to ask you...is it alright if I show Sarah your recording room?” Edmund said. Sarah had been told of the little room Annabel had to herself with good recording equipment and a few musical instruments. A place of wonder for people with a love of music.
“You told a random girl on the train about it?” Isabel asked with a little smile and raised eyebrow as she leaned on the work surface.
“No, we were chatting for ages on the internet over the weekend as well,” Sarah confessed. It had been true. She usually struggled to keep a conversation going for long on the internet, and yet the both of them found that hours disappeared when they were talking to each other.
“Of course. And if you’re any good at playing anything Sarah I might have to recruit you for a little project that I have going at the moment,” Annabel said with a little wink to reassure Sarah.
Sarah smiled as she realised that she may be fortunate enough to have made friends with people so quickly, and then Edmund took her hand and she just enjoyed the moment, and her mind was taking with persuading herself not to think too much into it. He was just excited and already had at least one drink. That was all.

I'm not sure why she's American, she just is, and I later discovered when going through the story (I originally wrote it as a script) that Isabel has dark hair, and Annabel is tall. Yeah, I'm one of those writers that doesn't so much make things up, as finds them out...Hope you enjoyed :)
