What if...

Three

It was amazing. A couple of times Sarah had tried recording herself with a microphone and her laptop, but this place was fantastic.
There were a few speakers and microphones in what must have been a rather sizable bedroom before it got filled with various musical instruments and a large complicated looking electrical set up. Sarah decided to leave that alone.
“This is brilliant. This of what we could do! Things in parts, mixing it up...do you think she’d let me record that piece that I’ve been working on? See if it works together?” Sarah babbled in a fit of excitement, forgetting her nervousness around Edmund and just staring in wonder at the room.
“I’m sure she won’t mind. In fact she’ll probably drag you into one of her projects before long. And we’ll all help if you like. It’s what we do sometimes, meet up and do musical things,” he smiled walking over to her as she stood in the middle of the room almost spinning to take everything in.
That was when the door opened and a blonde in a red dress stood in the door way. She walked through the door and made her way straight to Edmund.
“Here you are! I’ve been looking for you,” she said, almost throwing herself at Edmund. He smiled and hugged her back quickly.
“Jacqueline! Just showing Sarah here the equipment Annabel has. Trying to persuade her to be our friend you see,” he said as though it was a secret. Sarah felt a little self conscious as they both looked at her, and she couldn’t help but notice that Jacqueline’s arm was still draped over Edmund.
“Ahh, so that’s how you get girls to be your friend. You show her the equipment,” Jacqueline said with a wink just in her tone. Edmund just laughed at this, and Sarah decided to take that as her time to leave.
“I’d better be heading back down then,” she said quietly, not sure if she wanted to attract attention to her departure or not.
“Well we’ll come with you,” Edmund said, as though it was obvious that he wasn’t going to let her go alone.
“Wait, I want to show you that new tune I’ve got first,” Jacqueline said holding Edmund back. He looked over at Sarah who was still walking towards the door. He seemed a little torn.
“Don’t you want to hear it too Sarah?” he asked slightly too quickly to be entirely relaxed.
“No, it’s fine. I’ll leave you to it. I haven’t really spoken to Annabel yet, or indeed anyone else so...” and by that point she had nervously backed out of the room and used the silence to try and work out what she was thinking.
She could have felt jealous, but it just seemed to emphasise how new she was to the group. She didn’t actually know any of his history - what if she was the girl that he was really chasing? He seemed to be just as friendly with her. What if they were on the verge of a relationship, just not at the public stage yet?
By this point Sarah realised that her subconscious had made a serious mistake.
She had already fallen for him.
