Lovely Kind of Miracle

Is it Fate?

Ryan stared off into the distance. Tracing the cracks in the wall with his eyes. Today was the day he found out he was going to die. He always knew he was going to go, but never this soon. Seven months! Seven months was all he had left in this world. Ryan stood up; he was not going to let this bring him down.

He wasn't going to give up. Not yet.

Brendon shivered slightly as cold wind hit at his face. Sticking his hands deeper into his pockets. He just flunked out of college, and he had no idea what he was going to do or how he was going to tell his parents for that matter. They'd just tell him that he fucked up his life, and he was going to go no where. Brendon stops walking and let his head fall.

What was he supposed to do? No answer could be found.

Ryan decided to go to one of the places that meant most to him. A park that was a couple of blocks from his house. A small smile appears on his face, his mother used to to take him here all the time when he was younger. There was a place where you could see the ocean go on for miles. When he went there it always calmed him down and helped him think, It rememined him of her. Ryan's eyebrows furrow as he saw a man not older than himself sulking in the middle of the road. Ryan decided to help this man.

Little did he know that'd be'd the man who changed what was left of his life.

"Excuse me? I can't help but notice you seem down." Brendons head snaps up to see a feminine looking guy with soft honey-brown eyes. He was sort of beautiful, at least thats what Brendon thought anyway. He numbly nods, "Yeah, life's just thrown something at me I don't think I can handle." The boy smiles softly. "Come with me." Brendon follows him without a second thought.

This wouldn't leed to anything bad. Right?

Ryan smiled in the man started to follow him. "I'm Ryan, by the way." The man nods. "Brendon." he couldn't help but think that Brendon had a beauitful voice...The kind you could listen to hours on end. "So, where exactly are you taking me?" Ryan smiles... "It's a place where you forget about reality." Brendons face turns into a mixture of disbelief and skepticism. "Your not on drugs... Right...?" A giggle passes through his lips. "Of course not, just follow me." Ryan didn't think he would smile today.

Let alone laugh.

Brendon followed the taller boy until they reach a set of stairs that went down in a circuluar area that was on a cliff. He doesn't think that he's ever seen something that was more beautiful. "Wow..." the word breathed through his lips as he stared at the endless ocean. The boy next to him nods, "Pretty isn't it?" Brendon couldn't help but smile. "Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous. Your not crazy." Ryan laughs, "I'm not on drugs ether." Brendon chuckles. "Noted." '

For a second Brendon felt worlds away from earth.

Ryan noticed the way Brendons eye sparled when he looked out at the ocean. He knew it could make anyone breathless. "What was wrong?" Ryan figured he may as well try to help whatever was wrong with him. If he could help fix Brendon's life maybe that would make his worth something. Brendons shoulders slumped and he sighed, "I just flunked out of college, and I have no where to go." Ryan burst out into a fit of accidental laughter. If only Brendon knew how much he'd rather no direction in life.

Then no life at all.

Brendons eyebrows furrow as he watched Ryan dubble over in laughter. "Why are you laughing at me?" Ryan turned to him and his eyes widen, "Oh! No, I wasn't trying to be mean. You just don't know how easy you have it." He becomes even more confused when Ryan's face becomes sad. "Earlier this morning I was diganosed with pancreatic cancer, I only have seven months left to live." Brendon's eyes widen. Why did this guy still seem so happy?

Why is it that the ones who want to live are always the first to die?

Ryan watched Brendon's eyes widen. "Why are you not.. you know sad?" He smiled over at him sadly. "I need to make a difference you know? I can't do that by sitting in my room, sulking." He watched something flash through the older man's eyes that look like.. admiration.. He couldn't tell. He looked towards the setting sun and knew he had to go. "I' have to go, but you should meet me here sometime." Brendon smiles. "When?" He bites his lip, "Next Friday?" Ryan knew if he didn't agree a part of him wouldn't be the same. "Okay" With that they parted ways.

Little did they know that would become routine.

*** 6 months later. ***

Brendon stood in the circle on the cliff, waiting for the man he fell in love with so many months ago. Was Ryan coming? His heart drops, was this the day that he wouldn't ever show up? He knew their time was cutting down to a wire but, he thought he'd least have a few more weeks. He'd thought he'd at least get a phone call. He was doing better, he had a job. He had an apartment, he was doing better every day. And Ryan? Ryan was getting sicker and sicker. And there wasn't anything he could do about it.

If he could, he give his life in his place.

Ryan sprinted down the stairs to the circluar part over the cliff. Today was the day he was going to tell Brendon how he felt. He needed to. He saw him thinking deeply to himself. "Brendon! Brendon!" The man's face lit up into a huge grin. "Ryan- you're... al-" He cuts himself off. Ryan smiles, " You can say it." Brendon blushes, "Alive." he grins, "And I will continue to be."

Brendon's eyes widen. "Yeah, I went to the doctor's today and the tumors gone. I'm going to live." Shock continues to fill the man's features. Then his gaze softens. "Could I try something?" Ryan nods. Brendon leans down slowly and presses their lips together. When they come apart Ryan smiles, it's everything he thought it would be. "You don't know how long I've wanted that." Brendon chuckles, "I think I do."

"I think I love you." Ryan blushes when he realizes how cliche that sounded, but Brendon just chuckles back. "I think I love you too."

"This was some kind of fate." Ryan shakes his head, "No It was a miracle."
