The New Girl
Tell me what do you see.
"You know graduation's soon right?" Jess asked before chucking another piece of popcorn into her mouth.
"I know." I said, continuing to stare at the t.v. in front of us. She looked over at me.
"Do you know what collage you're going to?" She asked simply.
"Nope." I said popping the 'p' before taking a piece of popcorn.
"Have you even looked at collages?" She asked stunned. I shook my head. "Why not?" She asked intrigued.
"Because I don't know what I want to do." I answered honestly. Jess chuckled before leaving the conversation alone to return to our movie; Ten Things I hate About You.
"Have a nice last day of school." My homeroom teacher said before we all hurried away to first period. Everyone was excited to finish school, even though we'd all miss each other. Luckily for me, I had the whole day with John, Kenny, Garrett, Pat and Jared and a couple lesson's with Jess. We didn't have last lesson together so she practically drowned us all with her tears. Although we live together...

"Last English lesson ever guys!" Pat said excitedly as he jumped into the classroom in front of John and I.
"I'm not sure I'll miss it." John said with a low chuckle. I smiled and took a seat inbetween Pat and John towards the back of the room. Mr. Morrison -the English teacher- walked into the room with a wide smile. "Happy to see us go, eh sir?" John asked with a smirk.
"Ahh, you especially Mr. O'Callaghan." Mr. Morrison said with a smile. John chuckled along with Pat.
"What's on the agenda today sir?" Garrett asked as he walked into the classroom with Kenny and Jared.
"Just a film Mr. Nickelsen." Mr. Morrison informed Garrett as he opened up his brief case. John stood from his seat and turned to face me.
"I'll be one minute." He told me with a smile before he rushed towards the front of the classroom. Kenny took John's seat and began talking, but I wasn't listening. I, as always was too focused on John.
"You don't listen to a word I say do you?" Kenny asked, attracting my attention. I sighed.
"Sorry Kenny." I said with a false smile. He shook his head and turned around to talk to Garrett. I looked back at John, still at the front of the classroom with Mr. Morrison. It was frustrating not knowing what John was scheming.
"Hey Katie, would you mind not being ant-social and come talk to us? Thanks." Garrett said loudly. I turned to face them but was greeted by Kenny's back. I sighed and stood up before I sat in a seat where I could talk to everyone.
"What collages are you guys going to?" I asked, creating a new conversation. Jared looked at Kenny, Kenny looked at Garrett, Garrett looked at Pat and Pat looked at me. "What?" I asked, uncomfortable.
"We're not going to collage." Jared informed me with a smile. I cocked my head to the side slightly and raised an eyebrow, expecting an explanation. "We're going to go on further with The Maine." He added, answering the un-asked question.
"Are you going to collage?" Pat asked with a child like smile. I shook my head.
"I don't know what I want to do, so there's no point wasting money on collage getting a degree in something pointless." I said with a frown. A frown because John had decided to grace us with his presence once again but with a devious grin spread across his face.
I let it go for the meanwhile as the bell rang. John and I took our original seats before awaiting the rest of the class to turn up. After they had all filed in Mr. Morrison told us we were going to be watching a movie.
Every so often during the film I would look over at John, who kept looking down at his lap, but he didn't have his phone out, there was no light. His secretiveness was beginning to bother me. Just before the end of the film Mr. Morrison stopped the tape and turned the lights on, earning a few groans.
"Settle down." He ordered over the moans and groans of our classroom. "Mr. O'Callaghan want's to say something." He informed the class. John stood from his seat and made his way to the front.
His cheeks were pink from embarrassment. As he stood at the front he cleared his throat and opened his mouth to talk, but nothing came out. We all waited for him to say something but he cheeks just became a darker shade of pink. "In your own time." Mr. Morrison mocked causing the class to giggle.
"Okay." John said quietly, giving himself a mental pep talk. "So, as you all know, Katie, over there" He said pointing at me. "is my girlfriend." I began blushing as everyone's eyes made their way over to me.
"What's he doing?" I whispered to Jared. He shrugged and turned his attention back to John, as did I. John was fiddling with his fingers and keeping his gaze towards me.
"We've been together for about a year, maybe over." He began nervously. "I-I love her deeply and a day spent without her is a day wasted." He said causing me to blush more. "People may say we're young and dumb, but when you find the one, you just... know." He said staring into my eyes intently.
"I, I love the way she laughs, the way her eyes sparkle in the sunlight. I love her accent and the way her face scrumples when she eats something sour. The way her hair falls perfectly and the way she's always there when you need her." He said with a crooked smile. It was starting to feel like he was creating a poem just like in 10 Things I Hate About You.
"So, I'll just get to the point." He said with a chuckle. John began to walk towards me slowly. "I know we're young and we have our whole lives ahead of us. But I was my life to be with you." He said as he reached my desk. He pulled something out of his trouser pocket and crouched down on one knee.
My breathing raced as he showed the box in his hand. There were gasps from around the room as he opened the lid, revealing a petite gold ring with a diamond in the center and diamonds on either side of the larger diamond. I could feel my heart beating so strong it was almost beating right out of my chest. I could hear my blood speeding up through my veins.
"Like I said," He began quietly. "I know we're young, we don't have to get married now. I can wait for as long as you need." He said comfortingly. The word 'married' made my head spin. "And I mean, you don't have to say yes if you don't want to... If this is too fast for you I'm cool with that." He said rambling. I grinned and grabbed his cheeks in my hands.
"Yes." I managed to croak out. John's eyes widened along with his smile.
"Yes?" He asked skeptically.
"Yes." I reassured him with a nod. The classroom erupted with cheers as John slipped the ring on my left ring finger. He placed his hands either side of my face and kissed me softly causing me to smile. The bell rang and everyone burst out of the room. John and I walked hand in hand down the hallway and towards his car.
"So, how are you going to tell your dad?" John asked, making small talk while we waited for Jess. I shrugged.
"I'll probably just let him see it." I said with a giggle before wrapping my hands around his neck lightly and kissing him. I heard a screech from behind us and pulled away with a smile, knowing Jess had just found out.
"LET ME SEE IT!" She shouted as she ran towards us, leaving Pat, Garrett, Jared, Kenny, Nick and Halvo in the dust. I laughed and held out my left hand, showing off my engagement ring. Jess jumped up and down with excitement before hugging me, still jumping. "You'll be Mrs. Katie O'Callaghan." She said with a wide smile.
"I like the sound of that." John said looping his arm around my waist. Now all that was left to worry about was telling dad.
"I know." I said, continuing to stare at the t.v. in front of us. She looked over at me.
