The New Girl

"Katie get up!" Dad shouted at me from downstairs. I hopped out of bed and rushed into the bathroom, flicking on the radio as I passed. I had a quick shower before I got ready for the day. The upside of moving to Tempe from Britain was, I joined school a week before spring break.

School was rapidly getting better. I'd made girl friends and I was with the guys most lessons. There's only one or two lessons where I'm alone. I found that I have a free period with Pat and John twice a week, so that should be fun.

After drying my hair I rushed downstairs into the kitchen to find my dad had already left for work, we were finally talking to each other again after the whole bust up thing Monday but things were still a bit awkward.

I grabbed an apple before grabbing my backpack and rushing to the front door. John wasn't there yet so I sat on one of the chairs my dad had put on the wooden decking and waited for him. To my surprise it wasn't just John who turned up. Kenny was there too.

I smiled at both the boys who stood at the end of the driveway. Kenny returned a pleasant smile, John stared at me weirdly.

"Nice to see you too John" I said as I reached the boys. He smiled and we started walking down the street. John walked to my right and Kenny to my left.

"So, Katie, what are you doing for spring break?" Kenny asked as we walked. I shrugged.

"Probably do some reading, catch up with the work I've missed." I told him innocently.

"You're not doing anything for spring break?!" John asked, his jaw nearly hitting the floor.

"I think reading is something John." I corrected smugly. John closed his mouth with a smile. "What's so great about spring break anyways?" I asked unaware of the 'importance' of spring break. Both Kenny and John stared at me oddly. "What?"

"Spring break is the time to have fun, make memories, get drunk!" John said throwing his arms around trying to make his anger at me more obvious.

"Please You can get drunk any time!" I began. "Getting drunk was a weekly activity back home" I said staring straight ahead. John continued to look at me whilst Kenny looked away. "Yes?" I said looking up at John.

"If getting drunk was a weekly thing then you're coming to this party tonight." John ordered as we approached the school gates. I stared at John who was trying to call my bluff.

"Who's party is it?" I asked as we crossed the road.

"Our friend Nick's" Kenny informed me. I nodded.

"We'll pick you up at eight then" John said. I nodded. "Try and look hot" He said with a grin before disappearing into the crowd of students. I sighed.

I said goodbye to Kenny and met up with one of my girl friends. Her name was Jenny. She greeted me with a grin as we walked to first lesson.

"Are you going to this party tonight?" Jenny asked as we sat next to each other.

"Yeah" I said getting my books out of my backpack. Jenny looked a little stunned. "John invited me" I told her. She raised her eyebrows.

"Ohhh" She said grinning. "Like a date?" she asked smiling. I stared at her trying to take in what she had just said.

"No." I said abruptly. "I'm going with all of the guys." I added. Jenny smiled again.

"Are you sure it's not a date?" She asked trying to hold back her grin.

"It's not a date Jenny, John's .... icky." I said. Jenny laughed, I expect at my comment about John. The teacher walked in and everyone's conversations came to a halt.

"He's new" Jenny said leaning over to me, the teacher caught Jenny talking to me.

"What's your name?" He asked singling her out from the front of the classroom.

"J-Jenny" She stuttered, I looked over at her, she was shaking with fear, she looked like she was about to have a panic attack.

"Well Jenny." The teacher said walking down towards us. "I expect you to be quiet in my class" He said as he reached her. This teacher is a dick.

"It's my fault" I said to him. "I borrowed her pen yesterday and forgot to give it back. She was just asking for it before the lesson started." I said pulling a pen out from my pencil case and passing it to Jenny who took it with a confused face. The teacher glared at me.

"Don't talk again" He warned Jenny and me, I tried my hardest to hold back my laughter. The rest of the lesson was quiet but every so often I would look over to Jenny who would make a funny face which would cause me to laugh lightly.

As Jenny and me were walking out of first lesson I was stopped by the teacher. "Katie, I'd like a word." he said as I was half way out the door. I sighed and smiled at Jenny before she left and went to next lesson, I noticed John standing outside the door. I turned around and walked back into the classroom.

"Yes sir?" I asked innocently rocking back and forth on my feet.

"I'd appreciate it if you would be quiet during my lessons." He said. I nodded.

"Sorry sir" I said not meaning it, I just wanted to get out of there. The teacher nodded his head.

"Thank you, you may go." He said gesturing to the door. I nodded once again before nearly bursting out of the room.

"What was that about?" John said as he joined my side walking down the hallway.

"Apparently I was talking in lessons" I told him

"Were you?" he asked raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah" I said laughing. John chuckled and walked me to next lesson.

"Katieee!" Jenny shouted running into my bedroom. I looked up from my book to see her standing in front of my bed with two bags. "Well don't look so happy to see me" She said pouting. I smiled.

"Sorry, it's just a shock" I said laughing. Jenny smiled and sat next to me on the bed. "So what are you doing here?" I asked her closing my book and putting it on the cabinet by my bed.

"I'm here to get ready with you." She said smiling enthusiastically.

"Cool" I said. "Have you eaten?"

"No, not yet, I was thinking we could go get something now" She offered.

"My dad's actually cooking some pizza now if you want some" I informed her. She grinned.

"Yes please" she said smiling. "Oooh! Let me see what you're wearing tonight" She demanded. I nodded and made my way to my wardrobe. I pulled out my outfit and placed it on the bed before collecting the shoes and jewelry and placing them with the outfit. Jenny gasped. "That is cuuute!" She said. I smiled as a thanks.

"So what's in the bags?" I asked looking at them. Jenny grinned.

"One bag has my outfit in it and the other has some sleeping stuff inside" She explained.

"Sleeping stuff?" I asked warily.

"Yeah, I'll be meeting some girl friends from out of town at the party so I'll be staying with them tonight" She explained once again. I nodded. She smiled. The smell of pizza began to rise up the stairs.

"I guess the food's done" I said smiling. Jenny and I ran downstairs and into the kitchen. My dad handed us each a plate with some pizza on them. "Dad I'm going to a party with Jenny tonight" I told him whilst we sat at the island.

"Who's party is it?" He asked frowning. I didn't know what to tell him, I don't know Nick, I don't know where it is and I don't even know why I'm going.

"My friends" Jenny said saving me. I smiled at her. My dad smiled weakly.

"Alright, but call me if you're not coming home" He ordered me. I nodded.

We ate our pizza in silence and by the time Jenny and I went to get ready we had less than half an hour. "Jeez, time flies" I said as I noticed the time. Jenny giggled as I turned the light in my room on, the light bounced off the windows showing how dark it was outside. "You can get changed in here if you want, I'll go in the bathroom." I told her as I grabbed my shirt and shorts. I changed quickly and walked back into my room, Jenny was already dressed and wearing her heels and jewelry. "Wow. You look lush." I told her, Jenny blushed.

"You look hot!" She returned the compliment. I blushed also. I slipped on my heels and put on my jewelry also. "Could I use your make up?" Jenny asked smiling. I nodded as I put my earrings in. After Jenny had used my make up I put on a small amount. Whilst Jenny fiddled with her hair there was a knock at the door.

"Katie your... Friend's here" Dad said opening my bedroom door, I nodded and flicked Jenny. She collected her clothes and stuffed them in her bag before we rushed downstairs to see John and Garrett standing at front door. I smiled at Garrett then John, they both returned the smile.

"Guy's this is J-" I began but John cut me off.

"Katie, we know Jenny..." He said smugly. I pouted and Jenny laughed. Jenny hugged John and Garrett.

"Let's go then." I said bluntly.
