We Could Plant a House, We Could Build a Tree

“Sarah? Sarah, are you awake?” a small voice cut through the darkness. Sarah’s eyes shot open quickly, and it took her a moment to focus on the figure standing above her bed.

“Kurt?” she asked groggily, gazing up at him. She could see now that it was in fact Kurt. He was standing above her bed silently, swaying back and forth gently. She couldn’t see his eyes, but she could almost feel that they were wide and afraid, and his soft blonde hair was more disheveled than usual. “Kurt, what’s wrong?” she asked, and he shook his head, as if to clear it.

“I… I had a bad dream… I can’t get back to sleep… I was wondering if maybe I could sleep in here, just for tonight?” he asked in a voice barely above a whisper. Sarah scooted over in her bed and lifted up the sheets so that he could slide in at once.

Kurt and Sarah had been best friends since childhood. Their mothers had been best friends, and it had easily transferred over to them. They’d always gotten along perfectly. They were almost complete opposites, and Sarah thought that that might be why they worked so well together. Kurt was hyperactive; he liked to party, he liked to drink, he liked to do drugs. He had trouble concentrating on one thing for very long. Sarah was calm, cool, and collected. Even in the toughest situations. She drank lightly, very lightly, and she’d never tried a drug in her life, despite Kurt’s fierce attempts to get her to. They were good for each other; they balanced each other out. Sarah would have liked to have taken their relationship to the next level. She loved Kurt with all her heart… and not just as a friend. He was beautiful to her. She loved everything about him, even his flaws. She often caught herself just gazing at him lovingly when he was doing something, whether it be writing/playing music or just walking down the street. He fascinated her. But she was terrified to tell him that. She was sure he didn’t feel the same way. She was wrong.

“You’re a good friend,” Kurt whispered, wrapping his arms tightly around Sarah’s waist, making her heart flutter.

“I know, Kurty,” she replied, kissing his forehead softly.

“I don’t know if I deserve it,” he said, and even though she knew he couldn’t see her in the darkness, she drew her eyebrows together.

“Why do you say that?” she asked, and he shook his head gently.

“I’m a bad person,” he said, and she reached up and brushed a lock of hair out of his face.

“No you’re not. Go to sleep,” she replied, and he nodded again.

“Sleep,” he mumbled and just moments later, his breathing slowed and he began snoring gently.

The next morning when Sarah woke up, she’d almost forgotten the events of the night before, but when she rolled over to see Kurt slumbering peacefully beside her, it all came flooding back. As she gazed at him, his bright blue eyes slowly crept open.

“Why’re you starin’ at me?” he asked sleepily, an air of amusement evident in his tone.

“I’m not… I wasn’t staring,” she said, and he smiled slowly.

“You’re a real bad liar,” Kurt said, wrapping his arms around her neck and pulling her close to him. “You were staring,” he breathed into her ear, and she smiled.

“I guess I was,” she whispered, kissing him gently on the cheek.

“I’m gonna go make some coffee,” she said, struggling to break free of his grasp.

“No you’re not,” he replied, hugging her to him tighter.

“But I want some coffee,” she whined, and he laughed quietly.

“But I don’t care,” he mimicked her whining tone almost perfectly.

They’d been lying in silence for a few moments when he pushed away just slightly so that he could look her in the eye.

“What’s with the brooding stare?” she asked jokingly, but he didn’t crack a smile.

“I want to kiss you,” he said so seriously that under any other circumstances, she probably would have broken into a fit of giggles.

“You want to… what?” she said, completely in shock. For so many years, she’d been completely sure that he couldn’t possibly feel anything more than friend-love for her. Had she been wrong?

“I want to kiss you,” he repeated in the exact same deadly-serious tone, his beautiful eyes seemingly burning with emotion. Which emotions, though, she couldn’t be quite sure.

“You do?” she asked, and his face easily shifted from the dead-seriousness to a smile.

“Can I?” he asked, smiling at her.

“Of course,” she whispered, and seconds later their lips met and she couldn’t help but let out a small moan of pure pleasure the instant his lips touched hers. He was a great kisser. Probably the greatest kisser out of anyone she’d ever kissed. He was gentle and didn’t force it like a lot of guys did, but if it was possible, at the same time he was pleading and desperate about it. His tongue slowly entered her mouth and his teeth gently nibbled her lips. When he pulled his lips off of hers, all she could think about was how much she wanted more. It took her a moment to focus on the fact that he was looking at her intensely again, as if he had something to say.

“I love you,” he said quietly, his eyes searching hers.

“I love you too, Kurt, and I have since we were six-years-old splashing around in a kiddie pool in your backyard,” she replied, and a huge smile instantly spread across his face.

“You can go make your coffee now,” he said, his eyes seemingly glowing with happiness.

“I don’t think I want to anymore,” she replied, smiling up at him and burying her head in his chest. With a chuckle, he kissed the top of her head lightly and lay back down on the pillows. They lay there like that most of the day, just enjoying the feeling of being next to each other.

So when I first wrote this (a few days ago) I didn't have a guy in mind for it. I didn't know who the male character was going to be. Then, this morning I randomly decided that it needed to be Kurt. Don't ask me why, I have no clue. Anyway, I hope you like it. :3

Oh, and PS: I'm going to be starting a Kurt multi-chapter story later tonight, so if you like this, you should watch out for that.
