Twisted Symphony

Intervention.

“Is everything okay?” Reid shifts on the corner of my bed. “I mean, you ditched for lunch earlier. I just wanted to check on you.” This is honestly the longest day of my life.

“I’m just not feeling that great.” I shrug, pulling my sheets higher up over myself.

“Anything I can do?” He smiled and reached for my hand.

“No, nothing really.” I slipped further beneath my sheets. “I think I might be a little homesick too.”

“What’s in Illinois that you couldn’t get here?” I watched as Kayla brushed congealer over her perfect nose.

“Family.” Reid answered. “Friends?” He added, slightly annoyed by her vapid question.

“Oh.” She shrugs.

“Where are you off to?” I sit up in my bed and lean back against my pillows.

“Johnnie and I are hanging out. We’re trying to be friends.” She winks at me. “We’re just meeting up with a few friends, nothing special.” She smiles and I hear a knock at the door.

“That’s probably him.” Reid motions towards the door.

“I’m-” Kayla swings open the door to our room. “You are not Johnnie.” She smiles flirtatiously.

“No, I’m not. You’re? Oh… you’re Ging-” He begins and I know exactly who it is.

“ADAM!” I scream, jumping out of my bed and barrel towards his tall figure, nearly knocking him over, wrapping my arms tightly around his torso.

“Nice to see you too, G.” He smiles, hugging me back warmly. I pull back and watch as Reid’s eyes go wide with surprise. Kayla smiles, crossing her arms over her chest, sizing Adam up.

“What are you doing here?” I cry, trying to relax the smiled slapped across my face.

“You just so happened to have your mental breakdown around the time that I booked my ticket to come see you.”

“Mental breakdown?” Johnnie questioned sliding past Adam and stepping into the room. Adam raised his pierced eyebrow, beginning to piece things together.

“So when you said you were going to work?” I bite back at my lip and watch as Johnnie attempts to avert his eyes from me and Reid stares at me, utterly confused, and Adam watches them all in the way that only Adam can; all while looking at me.

“I was actually catching a flight to come see you.” He pulls off the duffle bag that once rested its thick strap across his chest. “I haven’t even checked into my hotel yet.” He shrugs.

“Gabrielle, you haven’t introduced any of us to your friends.” Kayla smiles flirtatiously. Adam just gets this contorted look on his face and looks at Kayla as if she’s lost her mind.

“Oh. Guys, this is, Adam. He’s my best friend in the entire world.” I give Adam this big cheesy grin.

“See? It’s when you say shit like that, that’s why I can’t take you out places.” He teases, shoving me lightly. Johnnies cheeks begin to take on a red tinge and Reid lets out a small breath, as if he’s been holding it this whole time.

“This is Kayla.” I point towards her. “Reid.” I smile towards him. “And Johnnie.” I point once more.

“Hey.” Adam waves.

“Hey.” Johnnie nods.

“Hi.” Reid says.

“Hello.” Kayla giggles and Johnnie glances over at her.

“You two probably have some catching up to do.” Reid pulls his red book bag over his shoulder and takes a few steps towards me. “I’m glad you’re feeling better.” He smiles and kisses me softly on the lips. “ Don’t worry, we’ll get coffee tomorrow.” He reassures the guilt ridden expression on my face, and kisses me once more before leaving.

“You ready, Kayla?” Johnnie’s entire disposition deflates.

“Yeah. Would you two like to come with us?” Apparently Adam gets me invitations that were never even put on the table before.

“No thanks.” Adam says flatly.

“Alright.” Kayla chimes.

“Goodnight.” He nods before shutting the door behind the both of them.

“You have a problem.” Adam drops himself onto Kayla’s neatly made bed.

“I do?” I raise an eyebrow.

“Did you hear that whip crack? Because I heard it from Illinois.” He motions towards the door.

“What? Who?” I cross my arms over my chest.

“There’s something you’re not telling me.” He narrows his eyes at me.

“You hate details.” I glance away for half a second

Nope. Not this time.”

Silence.

“Come on. You got it! I can see it!” He pushes with a satisfied smirks smeared across his face.

“I have no idea what I’m doing. Kayla is in love with Johnnie, but he only wants to hook up with her and she lets him and then he told he she wasn’t his boyfriend and I called him an ass and he got mad at me and told me that her ideas were all my fault. And then he showed up late at night after Megan told me that my mother thinks that I live in a crack den and I told him everything I could possibly cram into my mind and he listened to me and bought me Chinese food and I cried until I couldn’t anymore and he held me and I fell asleep on his chest and I woke up in the middle of the night and realized it was him, but I didn’t tell him to go. I just laid there and fell back asleep.” I slap a hand over my mouth.

“Because?” Adam smiled mischievously.

“Because I didn’t want him to leave and I liked the smell of his cologne and the comfort of his arm wrapped around my waist. And then I got coffee with Reid because he thought I stood him up that night I ran off with Johnnie at that stupid party and then Reid started screaming at me and I thought it was really hot that he was standing up for himself… and he’s really cute and sweet so I leaned over the table and started kissing him in the middle of the coffee shop, and we’ve been hanging out non-stop since.”

What? These aren’t details G. These are crucial points to stories that you should not be leaving out. How am I suppose to help you when you leave out the climax of the story every time? And then all this emotional crap? I’m not a woman, you can’t just expect me to figure this shit out. I know I have four sisters, but sometimes you expect too much from me.” He shakes his head, disappointed.

“I’m sorry.” I mumble, looking down.

“There’s more.” He breathes, a little annoyed.

“This morning when Johnnie came to talk to me and I told you that I ignored him? Well, I said thank you for everything and I told him that it would be better if he just forgot about Friday night and then-.”

“Then?” Adam slaps a hand over his tired Hazel eyes.

“He told me that he tried, but it turn out he can’t do that. Oh, and he said Reid was nice.” I roll my eyes.

“Anything else?” Reid shrugs hopelessly.

“I came back to my room after calling you and Kayla told me that Johnnie had stopped by a few hours ago and talked to her about everything, and how the way he was treating her was wrong, but he wasn’t interested in a real relationship so they should just try to be friends and Kayla said Okay, but really she’s trying to get Johnnie to sleep with her.” I take a deep breath and collapse backwards onto my bed, staring up at the ceiling.

“Are you done?” He asks.

“Yes.”

“Are you sure?” He says mockingly.

“Yes!” I snap.

“Okay. First of all, you have a lot of issues. I just think you should know that.” He shrugs and I feel a small smile come onto my lips because I know Adam doesn’t care that I do. “I want you to figure this out. Figure things out with Reid, because he’s as confused as fuck.” He shakes his head, disappointed.

“Why can’t I just have fun? Huh? Why can’t I just have fun with, Reid?”

“Because fun is just a little more than you can handle right now. Do you want to end up like Kayla?” He teases.

“No.” I sigh.

“Figure it out.” He orders.

“Okay.” I whine, defeated.

What about Johnnie?

“Don’t worry, I don’t think he’s going anywhere.” Adam mumbles lightly.

I forgot how Adam could read my mind like that, but I don’t want Johnnie, do I? And what if for once, Adam is wrong?

Then what?
