Baby Blue

1/1

Staring down at the baby in wonder, Taylor couldn't help but smile. She was beautiful. The most beautiful thing that he had ever seen. He still couldn't believe that he had actually helped to create something so pure.

"What's her name?" he asked looking up at Melissa. The girl he had once thought the most beautiful woman in the world now seemed bitter and twisted as she glared at the cradle he stood next to.

"It doesn't get a name," she hissed. "The only reason it's still around is because my parents won't let me get rid of it."

Taylor couldn't help but look at her in horror. "How could you say that Melissa? What's her name? Seriously!" he snapped trying not to raise his voice too much. She was sleeping so peacefully. He should have been there before, but, no he couldn't even make excuses anymore.

"Why do you care?" she snapped. "I'm giving it up for adopting. Neither of us will ever have to see it again."

He couldn't help but feel horror at the thought. He had just found this beautiful thing and now it was going to be gone. No, not it, her. "Y-you can't do that Mel," he argued shaking his head. "I-I won't let you!"

Her lips twisted up in a sneer. "What? You want it yourself? You don't have the balls."

Taylor stuck his chin up in the air. "She's mine too Melissa. And I want her. I won't let you give my baby up."

"Fine," she snapped turning on her heel. "Take that thing and go to hell!" she ordered before slamming the door shut.

The little baby started crying a moment later as Taylor turned to look down at her. "It's okay," he promised picking her up. "Daddy won't let anything hurt you," he promised. "Azure," he whispered letting the name roll of his tongue. "Yeah, you're my baby blue Azure, and I'm gonna make it all better," he vowed holding her up and watching as the baby watched him in wonder. He brought her forward and gently kissed her before bringing her back down and cradling her in his arms.

The door opened as he turned to see Melissa's parents. "Thank you Taylor," Mrs. Godfrey said with relief. "Just...just let us see her sometimes."

Taylor nodded. "Yeah," he agreed. "I'm sorry that-"

Mr. Godfrey shook his head. "We know Taylor. It's not your fault. She'll come around one day." Taylor doubted it, but he didn't have the heart to tell them. They were parents. They had to have hope in their baby girl. But Taylor couldn't. He knew better. And even if Melissa did have interest, he wasn't sure he could let her near Azure. He knew her too well. Even before she had gotten pregnant she had been bitter and jealous of those around her. He couldn't do that to his baby.

His baby...

I know there is a lot more of that story to be told, but don't worry. It will come to light soon. I just have to get through the next two drabbles to start the story.
