New state. New city. New look. New personality. New friends. New school. New year. New house.

Same family. Same name. Same car. Same pets.

It felt like everything was changing for me, but also like everything was the same. It was such an impossible combination that I had begun a slow and furious hatred for it. Why couldn’t it seem to make up its mind?

But, there was also a sort of balance between it—a stability of some kind that kept me from having a mental breakdown.

I need this, I thought as I stared at my reflection, forcing myself not to cry, Everything was in flames. This is the phoenix.
