Idiot in Wal-Mart
#5: Walk into Wal-Mart in my PJs, go into the McDonald’s, and say, “Mmm, what’s cooking, Mommy?”
I woke up somewhere during the night, and changed into some more comfortable clothes. I woke up again at who-cares-when. I walked into the McDonald’s, where I smelled something cooking, and said, “Mmm, what’s cooking, Mommy?”
“WAKE UP!” Trevor yelled in my ear. I jerked, and fell flat on my face as I hit the cold white tiles. I started laughing like a lunatic. I probably have a concussion. “I’m not your ‘Mommy.’”
“Of course not. My mom is way better looking than you.”
He glared at me only half-seriously. “Do you want breakfast or what?”
“Yes, please,” I said excitedly, jumping up, and sitting down in one of those tiny mini-booths. Trevor rolled his eyes at me, and handed me a stack of pancakes that had syrup dripping like a waterfall. You can imagine what this means, right? Crazy is going to be crazy! I can’t wait. What about you?
“Annette, you should slow down,” Trevor said, sitting down across from me.
“I told you not to call me that.”
“Annette’s your name. Not ‘Wild’ or ‘Annoying’ or—”
“Crazy,” I said stubbornly. “Everyone calls me Crazy.”
“Yeah, because you let them.”
“Well…” I said, pouting as I thought up an excuse for it. “It suits me!”
“No, I think Annette is a better name. It says, ‘Treat me with respect.’ You know what Crazy says? ‘Lock me up with the other nuthouses.’”
“So? It’s not like people will suddenly stop calling me Crazy just because I tell them to.”
“Whatever. So, what’s next on your list-of-things-only-you-would-do?”
“Already did it.”
“What? Let me see that list!”
I handed it to him, and he searched for it. Finally, he said aloud:

“See? I already did it. Oh, and thanks for the pancakes.”
I grabbed my list out of his hands, and walked away.
I better get dressed for the next one!
