If Love Is Sweet, What Is This, Draco Malfoy?

Me, Daphne Greengrass, Selena Lautner and Hailey Moone happened to be in the same room. We spent last night partying seeing as I was back, and my life finally seemed to be on track. Sure every second I thought about it, there was an aching pain in my heart, but I was healing. Tanya had promised – time would heal everything. I felt fresher, like a load had been taken off my shoulder after I had gotten the truth out. So if she had been right about telling everyone, she would be right about healing too. I went down to have breakfast, to notice the entire room was deserted.
“What’s going on?” I asked aloud, I got no reply, so I waited, wondering if it was a late morning or something. I walked slowly into the middle of the lunch table. It was weird I thought, as I inspected the untouched food. My mobile rang, and I pulled out to see the caller ID read Taylor. I shook my head and then threw my phone into a goblet of pumpkin juice, and the phone died. I smiled. “Complication gone” I whispered into the empty room. The phone started ringing again and I sighed. I picked it up this time
“Maia just let me-” Taylor started desperately but I cut in
“No Taylor don’t ok? I’m sorry, I really, truly am. But I can’t do this. I won’t. It’s not fair. Please, stop calling me” I said, whispering the last sentence. He was silent for a while
“You love him don’t you?” he asked, and I stayed in silence, shocked. “I guessed as much” he said, and I shook my head
“No. I don’t love him. I don’t love Draco. That’s why… this… happened” I sighed. Taylor laughed bitterly
“I can tell you care about him to some degree. You wouldn’t do this otherwise”
“Taylor don’t. Please. You know I can’t do this. If not for anything, yes, for Draco. Everything he’s done has been for me. And it’s not right. It’s not fair. I can’t do this. I won’t be mad at him if he doesn’t ever forgive him. But I’ll be mad at myself for giving him yet another reason to not forgive me if I carry on seeing you. I need to just stop and start fresh. By myself” I told him. He started speaking again, but I pressed shut down on the phone, put it on the floor, then blasted it with my wand and sighed. “One down. One to… figure out” I muttered.
“Maia?” I heard a familiar voice say, and turned to see Draco
“Hey… where is everyone?” I asked. He shrugged, and our eyes connected. We both pressed our index fingertip against our lower lip and then pulled the finger away from it so it was pointing up before gasping at the same time. If we hadn’t realised what we just did, this un-choreographed mimic of each other might have even been funny.
“We’ve been set up” we said together. I looked back at the door for some sign of the girls, when it closed abruptly, and I looked around the room. All of a sudden, my parents and Draco’s parents marched in. Lucas was glaring at me, matching my parent’s looks, and Narcissa looked disappointed. I just gaped at them.
“What do you think you’re doing?” my mother hissed, pointing her wand at me and shooting a hex at me, causing me intense pain. I screamed and dropped to my knees, the pain erupting through me, when Draco yelled my name and ran towards me, ignoring the adults. He supported me to a sitting position
“Maia are you ok?” he gasped, pointing his wand as he mumbled something that helped me regain my strength. I nodded faintly.
“Draco get away from her!” Lucas yelled, pointing his wand at me and yelling Crucio, but Draco shoved me out of the way and sacrificed himself instead, so that the curse hit him. I gasped as Draco clenched his fists together, his eyes going wider.
“Draco” I whispered, trying to pull him up “You’re ok” I promised him “You’re fine” I said, my eyes welling up. “You’ll be fine. Open your eyes Draco” I whined, and his eyes fluttered open slightly, before he got up, supported by me.
“You all need to leave! Right now! You screwed up our lives once by marrying us. Now you’re trying to intervene again! We’re adults. We can make our own decisions. If you ever make another move towards Maia, I will disown you as my father” Draco spat at Lucas
“How dare you!” Lucas yelled, pointing his wand at Draco, but I hexed Lucas first.
“Don’t touch him” I spat, glaring at him.
“All of you leave, now!” Draco hissed.
“You may control your parents but you don’t control us, child” my mother said.
“OH FOR GOD’S SAKE MOTHER SHUT. UP.” I screamed. She looked at me, stunned “Yeah, yell at me. Tell me you’re disappointed. You can’t make me feel worse than I already am anyway. But Draco got over it so why are you guys so pathetic that you can’t? Sure Narcissa’s upset, her son’s been hurt, and yes you’re embarrassed, but if we don’t care, why should you?” I asked “You know what I don’t go one second without regretting what I did, and wondering why I would ever do something like that to a guy like Draco, but we all make mistakes. Yeah I don’t expect to be forgiven, but you don’t have to constantly remind me of it. I’ll accept any form of torture you throw at me. I deserve it. Just don’t hurt Draco. He’s been hurt enough” I said, breathing heavily. My mother glared at me, before disappearing with a pop, shortly followed by my father. Narcissa tried to come towards Draco but he flinched away from her, and she vanished, her tear staying behind and falling to the floor. Lucas was the last to go, and glared at us both before vanishing too. “I’m sorry” I whispered, as I looked at Draco, and hugged him, falling down onto the floor and hugging him, with Draco there for me like he always us. Now I understood what I hadn’t then – the reason why he’d comfort me through my hard times. You did that for someone you loved. I kept hugging Draco for a while until going to lessons. It seemed that no-one else noticed that anything weird had happened like the disappearances. I found that weird, but sat down and did my work anyway
