“Yeah, that’s it. He just didn’t want people to catch on. That has to be it!” Marone said lifting his head and wiping his face, no longer caring about the make-up he just ruined.
They continued to class, no more words were shared, and none were really needed. They both knew that they were picking at straws. Camille knew the truth she just didn’t want to say any more. And Marone couldn’t help thinking about who Stephen was.
Before the two boys started dating Stephen was popular. He had a million friends and he got invited to all the parties. He even played football. But now he was almost no one. People still knew who he was but because he didn’t hang out with the same people anymore he wasn’t popular. He seemed fine with that, but Marone couldn’t help but wonder if he was telling the truth.
Marone spent the day thinking about what he knew Stephen did before and what Stephen does now. And he found so many differences it scared him. After thinking about it he realized that he had seen Stephen making out with numerous girls in the past. But at the time he didn’t know WHO Stephen was, just his name.
Once Marone remembered that he couldn’t help but wonder why he was so different. Stephen and he had been dating for almost six months and Stephen barely let Marone kiss him. They have kissed a grand total of four times, and then they were just pecks. They didn’t hold hands. They didn’t hug often, if at all.
“Why am I just now seeing this? How is it possible that I forgot about who he used to be?” Marone said out loud, drawing the attention of the class.
“Marone what are you talking about?”
