"You better get down from there, Angel, or you're going to fall."

"What have I got left to lose, mister officer? My boyfriend's cheating on me and my Dad's back in jail. I'm too old for this bull shit and yet here I am back in this dead end small town, waiting for nothing to happen. Give me one good reason to get down," she meant for it to all be a snarl, something of hatred, but it was nothing but a long whimper.

"I'm not going to give you the reason, Angel. You already know my reason."

She squeezed her eyes shut, letting the roar of her pounding heart overcome everything around her. It was dark, it was winter, it was cold, yet here they stood on the very edge of everything. Jax was terrified to take a step closer to her but it was almost impossible not to. He just wanted to hold her in his arms, take her far away from all the pointed edges, the disappointing phone calls, the boy who was breaking her heart.

"I wish you wouldn't call me that, I'm nothing like an angel."

He smiled sadly into the gloom and watched her short red hair catch the passing wind.

She had absolutely no idea.
