A Wonderful Surprise

`Where are you going? I thought we're going to spend tonight together?`

Garrett stood in front of Mary's front door and found her wearing nice dress, seemed she's going to go somewhere.

`I thought it would be tomorrow?` Mary showed a confused face, she knew Garrett would be so disappointed but she really forgot that tonight was supposed to be her night with her best friend. `I'm sorry Garret. I—uhm, I'm going to have dinner in downtown.`

`Dinner? Whom will you have dinner with? Not me?` Another disappointment came from Garrett. Just as Mary was going to answer Garrett, someone came from Garrett's behind.

`Him,` Mary pointed. Garrett turned around and found Nick Santino with nice suit. He also found a cab waiting for the couple to ride them to the downtown. `I'm sorry, Garrett, I gotta go now,` Mary said later.

`Ready to go?` Nick asked after he said a simple hi. `Oh, hi Garrett. I'm taking your friend out for dinner, is it fine?` He smirked.

The disappointed Garrett looked at both Mary and Nick. He hated to see that guy taking his girl out. `Really, Mary? With him?` He mouthed.

`I'm so sorry, really,` Mary said as she got Garrett's hand in hers. `I'll be back soon and that's when we're going to spend the night together, okay?`

`Just have fun with him,` Garrett said as he turned back to his house. Once his eyes met Nick's, he could see a smirk on Nick's face. Garrett hated that moment so bad when Nick mocked him.

Instead of making his way back to his house, Garrett went to Jared's house which is just two blocks away from his. His emotion was miserable and he needed to tell it to someone so it might felt better—at least that's what Mary told him.

`Hey, what's up?` Jared surprised to find Garrett in his house. `I thought you're staying at Mary's house.` He said again after Garrett walked inside and threw his bag to the couch, almost hit a vase at the table but fortunately nothing happened.

`She canceled it.` Answered Garrett shortly. There's a lot of disappointment in his words and as Jared realized it, he went to the kitchen to make a cup of coffee for his friend.

`What's up, Man?` Asked Jared as he handed a cup of coffee to Garrett.

`She went out for dinner with Nick,` answered Garrett as he sipped his coffee. `Anyway thank you, this tastes good.`

`Thanks,` said Jared simply. `And why do you seem so upset? You can go out with her like everyday, right?`

`This is different,` Garrett said shortly as he put his cup at the table and crossed his hands. `She never forgot about our plans before. She never broke her promises--`

`Are you jealous?` Jared cut Garrett's sentence and that made the younger boy's eyes widened.

`What? No way.`

`You're jealous, Dude,` Jared smirked. `You can't lie to me.`

`Fuck,` Garrett cursed. `Promise me you'll never tell anyone about this, Jared.`

Jared chuckled lightly, it's fun to know Garrett's falling in love. It was fun to know Garrett's falling in love with his best friend. `Tell what? You haven't told me anything yet, Gare.` He grinned to the jealous Garrett.

`I like her—no! I love her.` Garrett said slowly, he was so shy to tell this even to Jared.

`And..? Who is her?` Jared grinned again.

`You know who, Jared! Fuck!` Garrett cursed again. He drank his coffee again and laid back to the couch, pouting.

`Calm down, Garrett, calm down!` Jared chuckled. `So what are you going to do now? Let Nick get Mary as his girlfriend?` Asked Jared as Garrett pouted more. `You know what, Garrett? You have to fight for her. I think you guys are great together.`

`But it will be hard, I got a feeling that Mary also has a thing to Nick.`

`Hey, this is not Garrett Nickelsen I used to know,` said Jared. `Come on, Man, you can do it. How could you be like this just because someone almost steal your crush?`

Garrett shrugged his shoulders as his phone rang. It was Mary calling. `Hello,` he answered the call.

Jared drank the last sip of his coffee while Garrett answered his call. As he came back from putting his cup at the sink, he got Garrett starring at him confused. `What?`

`Mary is home. She asked if I still wanted to spend tonight with her...` He said, `and Nick.`

Jared raised one of his eyebrows. `You better leave them having fun for tonight. Don't disturb the love birds.` Jared said as Garrett groaned in annoyance. `You'll have her tomorrow, a day full. Don't worry, Man. There, show her who loves her much better, you or Nick.`
