The Change

Picnic At The Park

-Jen's POV-

As soon as I found out we were having a girl I bought a new necklace with an 'A' pendant dangling from it. I never took it off unless I was taking a shower. I was so excited to meet my little girl and I couldn't wait until she finally grazed us with her presence.

The twins were spending the day at the beach with Matt and Val so Brian and I could have the day to ourselves. We didn't get to see each other that often and when we did Tyler and Hannah were usually with us.

Brian was already awake when I finally got out of bed and I could smell food cooking in the kitchen. This scared me a little because the last time Brian made food in the kitchen he almost set it on fire. He was much better at grilling.

I made my way into the kitchen and saw Brian standing over the stove with no shirt on. It wasn't the smartest idea seeing as how he was making bacon and he could get burnt but he looked so hot that I couldn't stop staring at him.

"See something you like?" He asked with his back still to me.

"Maybe." I smirked as my stomach growled. "How come you're making breakfast?"

"Well for one I knew you'd be hungry when you got up and I want you to take it easy. Go sit down it should be done in a few minutes."

I did as told and sat down at the table. A smile came to my face when I noticed an ice cold glass of milk sitting there waiting for me. I had been drinking a lot of milk, water, and juices during my pregnancy and trying to stay away from soft drinks. It wasn't easy but I did it for my baby but as soon as she was out I was going to have a can of 7up.

Brian set two plates down on the table before sitting down across from me. He was having a cup of coffee with his breakfast and much to my surprise the food was actually pretty good. We ate quietly and once we were done Brian took our plates and placed them in the dishwasher.

"So what are we doing today?" I asked as I watched him wash up the pans in the sink.

"Well I was thinking maybe we could get out of the house for a while. Maybe do some shopping for the baby and spend some time together."

"I'd like that."

All of the girls were planning a baby shower for me but there were certain things Brian and I needed to buy for our little girl like a car seat and things like that. We wanted to be prepared just in case she decided to come early.

"Why don't you go get dress and once I'm finished in here we'll take a drive up the coast before lunch?"

"Okay."

I slowly got to my feet and made my way up the stairs to my bedroom to get dressed. It was pretty hot out so I decided on a dress and a pair of sandels. I wasn't sure where all we would be going but I wanted to be as comfortable as I could be. I still had about six weeks left in my pregnancy and looked like I could pop at any minute. I really missed being able to see my feet.

None of this seemed real to me. A year ago my life was a complete mess. I was a college drop out taking care of my young siblings and now I was dating the most wonderful man and pregnant with his child. Brian and I hadn't really talked about marriage and I couldn't help but wonder if we would ever get married or not. He hadn't proposed and I didn't want him to feel like he had to. I was enjoying every second I had with him and I never wanted that to change. Being married to him would just be a really awesome bonus.

Brian finished cleaning up the kitchen and before I knew it we were in his car driving up the coast. Being alone with him was one of the things I cherished the most. The twins took up a lot of his time when he was at home and if they didn't it was always someone else. I didn't really mind he had a lot of people that loved him but sometimes I'd wonder if we'd ever get a moment just the two of us.

Even though she wasn't born yet our baby had brought us closer together. We were a family now and I had noticed Brian blowing a lot of people off to spend time with me. He went to every doctor's appointment and even to my lamaze classes. He was my coach and I could tell he was excited about it but he was also nervous. He was nervous about becoming a father but I assured him that he'd be a wonderful father. I'm not sure if he believed me or not but I knew deep in my heart that my little girl had the best daddy in the world.

After driving for a few hours we ended up at Central Park. It was such a nice day that we decided to have a picnic. Brian laid a large blanket down on the ground and helped me to sit down on it.

"You do realize that now that I'm down I won't be able to get back up right?"

He just smiled before sitting down next to me. "That's what you've got me for babe."

I just laughed softly and watched as he got things out of a picnic basket that I had never noticed before. He must have had this planned right from the start.

As Brian plated up our lunch I noticed something shiny dangling from his neck.

"What's this?" I asked leaning closer so I could get a better look. It was a necklace with an 'A' pendant but much more manly than mine.

He licked his lips and smirked. "I was wondering if you were ever going to notice."

I looked at him with tears in my eyes. "When did you get it?"

"Right after you got yours."

I smiled and kissed him sweetly which he greatly returned. "I love it. I guess I hadn't noticed cause you've been so busy lately."

"Yeah." He paused to take a bite of his sandwich. "But just think the more I get done now the less I have to do when Ava is born."

That made me smile. I was so happy he wasn't one of those guys that ran as soon as they got a girl pregnant. Brian was excited to have a child, especially a little girl.

"So what store did you want to go to?" I asked as we ate.

"Well we could go anywhere really. You've been wanting to go to Babies-R-Us right?"

I nodded and took a sip of my flavored water. "Yep. There's a lot of things I would like to look at."

"Then that's where we will go."

Brian and I finished our food and cuddled up together for the next hour before we decided to leave. It was getting hotter by the minute and I really needed to cool off. Brian packed everything up before getting to his feet. He stared down at me in thought and I couldn't help but giggle. He was trying to figure out how to help me up.

"Don't hurt yourself too bad Bri."

He stuck his tongue out before reaching down and grabbing my hands. That attempt didn't work so he tried a few different things and after about ten minutes I was finally standing while Brian complained that he'd never do that again.

"Aww did my baby hurt himself?" I asked as we walked in hand to his Escalade.

"Of course not." He lied. "My back doesn't hurt at all."

I giggled. "So next time you'll actually listen to me when I tell you the best way to do it?"

He rolled his eyes. "Yeah yeah."

Brian helped me into the car before tossing the picnic basket into the back. He hopped into the driver's seat and started the car. It was pretty hot inside but in no time at all I could feel the cool air from the A/C hitting my skin.

When we got to Babies-R-Us I was surprised that it wasn't very crowded. We got a cart and started making our way around the store. We had a list of things we wanted to look at it so we started with the must have things first. The first being a car seat. We knew we wanted a matching set of strollers and luckily they were right next to each other.

Brian was more into how they looked than anything else so after about twenty minutes of discussing it we found a set we liked. It came with a car seat and stroller like we wanted but it also had a high chair, a pack and play, two bouncy seats, and a diaper bag.

Next we headed towards the clothes to pick up a couple of outfits for when she's born and reality started to set in for me. In six short weeks our lives were going to change. We were going to be parents. We would be responsible for this baby's life and it was our job to protect her from the bad in the world.

Brian may be nervous but I can't wait. I just want to hold our baby girl in my arms.

Guess what? A new chapter! You all are so lucky to even get this because while I was working on it last night my computer almost crashed. If it had not only would I have lost this but I would have lost other stories, pictures, and so much more. Thankfully it's working and I have everything backed up. Hopefully it never does that again.

More soon!
