Forever Hold My Heart

"Katelyn?" Gavin said just as shocked as I was. "You look like hell."
He smiled, I did look like hell my arm was all cut up from breaking the car window, my dress was all torn from the running in the forest. My dress even had blood from my arm.
"Look who's talking," I said helping him up. Gavin looked pretty beat up. I picked up the gun and left with Gavin following close behind.
"Where are we going?" He asked
"I'm not sure yet," I said as I rushed over to the car. "keep low."
"Did you steal this car?!" Gavin asked
"No what kind of person do you take me for," I said getting in and driving off. "How bad are you? Where did they get you from?"
"It's a long story," He said wincing with even the slightest movement.
"I have time," I said as I drove to a place I knew too well.
"I was just talking to this girl who turned out to be some gang leaders girlfriend , so they were going to 'teach' me a lesson." Gavin explained and I just started laughing.
"What?" he asked
"I thought you were being captured by latronums," I said
"La- what?" he asked
"It's really a long story it has to do with what I told you before I left," I said
"I really thought I'd never see you again Katie," He said as I pulled into the drive way.
"I know, and it's good to hear somebody call me Katie again," I said I was a bit concerned bringing Gavin here. My mom would have a lot of questions and she might be bad but what choice did I have.
"How long have you been back?" He asked
"I barely came back tonight," I said
"How did you know where to find me," he asked.
"Just come on, I'll explain everything inside," I said and knocked on the door. I could hear my mom come down the stairs.
"Katelyn? Gavin?" She asked shocked, tonight was just a box filled with surprises.
"Hi mom," I said with a smile and she hugged me she even hugged Gavin
"What are you doing here?" She said letting us in, "I'm happy to see you but don't tell me you ran away and got Gavin involved?" She said
"No not at all mom my specialty is I can find a royal in distress," I said and she just looked at me as if that wasn't a good enough excuse, "Mom, Gavin is a Royal."
"How?" She asked more to herself.
"I don't know," I said
"Oh Katelyn," she hugged me again, "Where's your team?"
"I don't know, I was at the masquerade and then when I got here, I realized no one had come with," I said with tears in my eyes. I wasn't sure if this was just me being a girl or if it was the alcohol. It also could of been me exceeding my limit.
"It'll be fine, what you need to do is just go back and take Gavin with you." My mom said
"No actually we can't go back tonight there was God knows how many Latronums in the forest." I said and I started feeling an ache in my upper back shoulder. "Mom I don't know if they followed me but I need you to stay at a hotel for your safety while I stay here with Gavin."
"Okay but-" she started
"No mom I don't want you involved with this and I'm going to take my car with me," I said
"Actually I think I should stay," she said
"Mom please don't make me do this," I said and she didn't move. I stared her straight in the eyes, "Mom you are going to cooperate and listen to what I told you okay."
She nodded and got her keys and left.
"What did you do?" Gavin asked
"Hold on," I said locking the doors and making sure and the curtains and blinds were closed. We then went upstairs to my room.
"I'm so confused Katelyn, what's going on?" He asked as he sat on my bed.
"Okay so let me make this as simple as possible," I said looking through my closet. "There are four types of people. Communia which is your average person. Periculums or more commonly known as Royals. Oh forget it long story short there are people out there that want to kill people like you. So because of that people like you have guardians or me."
"Okay," He said
"I know right," I said pulling out a tank top and some leggings.
"Katelyn!" He said getting up.
"What?" I said
"Your bleeding,"
"Yeah I know," I said looking down at my arm.
"No, your back. I think you've been shot." Gavin said
"Oh don't worry about it, I'll get it fixed when we go back," I said getting undressed
"No we need to go to a hospital or something," Gavin said trying to look away
"See remember how I told you about guardians. Well because I am a guardian I can heal faster," I explained as he sat back down on the bed
"This is just a weird dream," He said closing his eyes and I laughed. I finished getting dress and walked over to the bathroom and got a first aid kit.
"I'm sorry that a dream with me in it is weird," I said with a smile
"That's why I said dream and not nightmare," He said with a smile. I sat on the bed and started cleaning my arm with hydrogen peroxide. I would usually hiss but I had gotten use to it.
"Take off your shirt." I said putting a gauze around my arm.
"I don't have any cuts," Gavin said
"I know but I want to see what the damage is," I said and he took his shirt off, I lightly traced my fingers on his ribs I could already see the bruises that were forming. "I'm sorry."
"For what?" He asked
"For not getting here sooner," I said
"Hey just you coming at all makes up for it," He said and I smiled. I traced my finger up his chest and saw he had my ring on a chain. I played around with it.
"Katelyn, when you left things just didn't feel right," Gavin said as he grabbed my hand, "I felt so alone. I felt like I gave you my heart the day you walked away."
"I don't know what to say." I said looking him in the eyes.
"Say you'll be with me, be my girl and you won't leave me," He said
"I want to but," I started
"I don't care about all that other stuff just forget about it for now," Gavin said. I felt torn, if my life was how it use to be then I would go into this relationship, but things were different now. I didn't even know how to respond, and it's been awhile.
"If it doesn't work out?" I asked
"We'll still be best friends," He said and I gave him a small smile. I then heard some noise come from down stairs.
"Get under the bed and stay there, until I say otherwise. Don't even make a sound," I said using persuasion and then I heard the door bell ring. I grabbed my gun, and moved my nightstand so that I could use it as a type of shield. I was so nervous, that when the doorbell rang again I jumped a bit. Who in the hell would be knocking at this time of hour. I then heard the phone ringing I felt my stomach drop as I held my gun. I glanced at the clock it said it was 11:37 pm. I was expecting the door to open any minute, yet I just stared at it. I found my thoughts wandering but I kept pulling myself back to focus.
Occasionally I would feel my arm spasm but I tried to ignore it as much as possible. I suddenly could hear Gavin's soft breathing, I think he had fallen asleep. I glanced at the clock again to see that it read 12:27am. Had I really been here for almost an hour? I wanted to move but I still worried that at any moment they would come rushing through that door.
I heard the front door from downstairs open.
"Katelyn? Caroline?" I heard someone call. "It's me Mathew."
I opened my mouth to try and say something but I heard someone walking upstairs.
"Is that you Katelyn?" I heard Mathew call from downstairs. I didn't know what to do. I slowly got up, I opened the door to my room. I looked out and didn't see anyone. I closed my door and saw the door to the guest room close at the same time. I debated on whether I should turn on the light or not. I slowly walked over when the hallway light was turned on. I turned around to see Mathew.
"Katelyn?" Mathew said and that's when a door opened, "Katelyn!"
Mathew yelled as shots were fired I immediately turned around and fired 3 shots and the figure
fell to the floor.
I kept my gun aimed.
"Mathew go to my room Gavin's under the bed get him," I said and I heard him walk over to the room and I walked over to the body. I turned the body over only to see my mom gasping for her last breathes
"Mom," I whispered as I stared at her not knowing what to do, "Oh my god."
I started crying.
"No, no, no I'm so sorry. Please stay with me, everything is going to be okay." I said as the tears came streaming down my face. "Why? Mom, why?"
She was coughing and gasping. I was going to pick her up but then she stopped completely. She was gone. I shook her.
"Mom please no," I cried
"Come on Katelyn," I looked to see Travis.
"No, I can't I just can't," I sobbed
"It's okay," He said trying to soothe me by rubbing my back.
"No," I cried as I pushed his arm away.
"Katelyn we have to go," Mathew said trying to pick me up by the arm but I pushed him away.
"Mathew we have to go now," Some guy I didn't know said.
"I'm sorry Katelyn but this is the only way," Mathew said picking me up by my arms. I tried to fight him off but he grabbed my legs. I eventually fell to the floor but Gavin helped me up and embraced me in a hug.
"We got it from here," Travis said trying to pull me away from Gavin. "You should go home kid."
"No," I sniffled, "he's a royal, he's the reason I came back."
