Centre Island, New York is never what it seems. We meet our narrator at the beginning of a life changing journey. After Callie’s mother attempts suicide, she is sent away to live with her Aunt Melinda. But when Melinda must fly half-way across the world, once again she is plucked out of her home. This time, she ends up in the small town of Centre Island in New York to live with her Great-Aunt Anna. She is left to finish her senior year of high school in the household of a stranger. It is in this town that she sparks a dangerous friendship with a mysterious boy. With his help she learns about her real past, family history and she figures out the mystery of her family's strange behavior and her mother's destructive behavior.
