My Only One

Daddy's Little Angel

"A month off from tour huh? I hate that it's a month but then again it's a must."
Danny nodded, fully agreeing with his fellow crew member, Jeff Maker. "I know what you mean."
"You should be excited. You're spending an entire month with your little lady."
Danny chuckled. "Trust me, I am. I can't wait to see her."
Once Danny and Jeff had packed the last of their belongings off the crew bus, they took a cab to the airport and went their seperate ways. Danny couldn't sit still throughout the flight to Los Angeles. The fact that hee was gonna see the bright beautiful smile of th most amazing angel made him wanna jump for joy. Words could not describe how much that angel meant to him. She was his whole world. After what felt like an eternity on the plane, Danny finally landed in LA. Just as he got a hold of his bag, he heard that very angel's magnificent voice.
"Daddy!"
He turned around to find the most beautiful little girl running to him with her small arms wide open. He knelt down to the little one's level and embraced her when she fell into his arms.
"Hey baby girl."
The little girl giggled and kissed her father's cheek. "Welcome home daddy. I missed you."
Danny chuckled and kissed his daughter's forehead. "It's good to be back. I missed you too."
"I see she found you."
Danny looked up and found his neighbor's eighteen year old daughter, Sabrina, standing just a few feet behind his daughter, nearly out of breath.
He chuckled and stood off the ground. "Yup here I am. Was she any trouble while I was gone?"
Sabrina shook her head and smiled. "Not at all. Nothing I couldn't handle anyway."
Danny smiled back. "Well that's good to hear. Not many people can handle Elena."
He then felt a slight tug on his shirt. Danny looked down and met with his daughter's eyes. "What's up Ellie?"
"Can we go home now daddy?"
He smiled again and gave her a light pat on the head. "Absolutely."
Danny took a hold of his bag in one hand and held his daughter's hand in the other as they made their way out of the airport to Sabrina's car. On the drive home, Elena fell asleep on Danny's lap. He couldn't help but notice how much his daughter was looking more and more like her mother.
"Everything ok sir?" Sabrina asked from the driver's seat.
Danny sighed. "I thought we've been over this Sabrina, call me Danny. Sir just makes me feel like an old man."
She giggled, keeping her eyes fully glued to the road. "Sorry, I forgot."
"It's ok and to answer your question, everything's fine. It's just that Ellie is really starting to look like her mom."
"Ah I see. Ellie told me about her a lot while you were gone."
"Did she really?" Danny smiled.
Sabrina nodded. "Yea. She told me a story about how you and her mom met."
Danny couldn't help but chuckle. "Yea, I told her that story. In high school, her mom and I were the worst of enemies. We couldn't stand each other."
"When did everything change cause things must've in order for Elena to be born, right?"
"Things stayed the same untill maybe a year or two after we graduated when I bumped into her at a record store."
"Did you guys pick on each other?"
Danny shook his head. "Not at all. We said hello, talked about music, and exchanged numbers. Before I knew it, we were dating and expecting."
"Was it planned?"
"We talked about having kids but we didn't expect it so soon."
"How did Ellie's mom well you know."
Danny sighed. Bringing up the death of his beloved Lynn was never easy for him.
"She died after giving birth to Ellie."
"Does she..."
He shook his head. "Elena doesn't know. I'm pretty sure she'd feel responsible for her mom's death if she knew now."
"I understand. At least she's aware that her mom is in a better place."
"Exactly."
The trio soon arrived and parked outside Sabrina's house. She helped Danny with his bags as he carried his daughter to their house next door.
"You can set the bag by the door. Thanks for watching Ellie." Danny whispered, trying not to wake up his little angel.
"Anytime Danny."
Sabrina soon left and headed back to her house. Danny slowly closed the front door behind her and headed upstairs to Elena's room. He gently laid her down in bed and tucked her in. Danny sat next to her and
smiled down as his daughter slept.
"Elena, I love you very much. I hope that when you find out about your mother's death, you'll understand that it wasn't your fault. Your mom loves you so much and is now watching over us from heaven, drinking a cup of coffee with Jesus like your uncle Alex always says. I truly hope that when that time comes, you'll understand that somethings just happen for a reason. Just know this, you'll forever be my one and only little angel. Daddy loves you Elena."
Danny placed a tender loving kiss on his daughter's cheek before making his way to the door. Just as he was about to close the door, he heard a small voice.
"I love you too daddy."
Danny smiled, closed the door, and wished his angel a good night sleep.
