Stay With Me

Chapter 16.

“Help!” I yelled out as I stumbled down the hall.

I could picture my death now. It would be all over the news as the most ridiculous death ever. People would laugh when they heard about it. The headline would read ‘Merch Girl Crushed By T-shirts’. I stumbled again, only this time I tripped over my own foot, and only just managed to steady myself. The box on top of the three boxes I was carrying began to slide toward me, which in turn made the second box move. That was it. It was all over. The three huge boxes filled with shirts were going to kill me. I tripped again and this time I couldn’t steady myself. Before I could even register what had happened I was sprawled on the floor, the boxes had busted open and their contents were scattered everywhere.

“Rhi?” I looked up to see Josh standing above me.

“Hey,” I sighed.

“Need some help?” He chuckled.

“That’s okay, I’ll just lay here.”

“Is someone having a bad day?”

“Fuck you,” I said making no attempt to move.

“Aw, c’mon love,” Josh teased picking up one of the shirts that had landed on my face.

“Nope,” I said shaking my head.

“C’mon,” he said holding his hands out.

I sighed and took Josh’s hands and he pulled me to my feet and then helped me pick up all the shirts. It was a gruelling task but we got them put back in their boxes eventually.

“Maybe you should try a hand trolley or something next time,” Josh said as we dumped the boxes on the merch table.

“Or I could just get you to carry them,” I smiled sweetly up at him.

“I don’t think so,” he laughed.

“Well, thank you anyway,” I smiled.

“No problem,” he said before waving at me and turning to walk away.

“Wait, Josh,” I said pulling him back, “what are your intentions with my best friend?” I crossed my arms in the hopes that I’d look more intimidating. I had to know. Bobbi-Jo was my best friend and if he hurt her there would be hell to pay.

“My intentions?” Josh asked raising an eyebrow.

“If you hurt her, I swear to god you’ll regret it.”

“Trust me when I say I have no intention of hurting her, ever. I really like her, and to be honest, she’s the most amazing girl I’ve ever met. You’re the only one I have to thank for introducing us. At the moment, we’re just taking it slow, getting to know each other. You don’t have to worry, love” he smiled.

“I still do though. But, it’s good to see her happy. With all the travelling she does, it’s hard for her to find time to be in a relationship or even like someone enough to do anything about it. But, I think you’ll be good for her,” I smiled.

“Have you not started setting up yet?” Ollie interrupted dumping some more boxes on the table.

“Yeah, yeah,” I sighed turning back to Josh. “Duty calls,” I said rolling my eyes.

“See you later,” he laughed, “and thanks,” he said before turning and walking away.

“Hey,” Bobbi-Jo said, hopping up to sit beside me on the stage. “How are you doing today?”

“Pretty good actually,” I smiled looking over at her. It was the first time I could say that I was okay since that night without having to lie. I couldn’t explain why, but when I woke up this morning in Dan’s arms I felt truly happy for the first time in over a week. “Why do you look so happy?”

“I don’t know,” she breathed, “I just have a good feeling about today,” she shrugged.

I just nodded in response as I watched Dan sit behind his drums. This was the best part about sound check. Getting to watch the boys do what they do best. The second he started playing I was hooked. I couldn’t take my eyes off him.

“Are you even listening?” Bobbi-Jo asked waving a hand in front of my face.

“Huh?” I asked not looking away from Dan.

“You’ve got it bad, man,” she laughed bumping my shoulder with hers.

“I do not.” That was a lie.

“Do so,” she sang grinning at me.

“Okay, okay,” I sighed turning to look at her. “I’ve got it bad. Really, really bad. Are you happy now?”

“Yep,” she grinned. I rolled my eyes at her and went back to watching Dan.

He noticed me staring and grinned, sending butterflies soaring in the pit of my stomach. I couldn’t help the smile that spread across my face.

“Wanna try?” Dan asked holding up his sticks.

“I’ll be terrible,” I replied shaking my head. It was true; I tried playing the drums in high school. Let’s just say I was never allowed near them again.

“You just need a good teacher,” he grinned.

“Oh, so Norris is going to teach me then?” I asked walking over to stand beside him.

“I’m hurt,” he said putting a hand over his heart.

“Aw, poor baby,” I pouted sitting behind the drum kit he just vacated. Dan handed me his drum sticks and stood behind me with his hands on my shoulders. “I have no idea what I’m doing.”

“That’s what I’m here for.”

“Can you teach me Kiss and Tell?” I asked looking up at him.

“Really?”

“Yeah, I love that song,” I grinned.

“Okay, we’ll just do one verse at a time,” Dan said. He ran his hands down my arms, leaving a trail of goosebumps, and his hands eventually came to rest on top of mine. “I’ll guide you,” he said softly. His warm breath on my neck sent shivers down my spine.

I let Dan do the work and tried my best to concentrate on everything he was doing. His chest was pressed against my back and I could feel his heartbeat. The muscles in his arms bulged with each movement and it took everything I had to keep my focus on the drumming.

“Did you get that, love?” Dan asked bringing me back to reality.

“Uh, sure,” I said blinking a few times to try and focus myself. Though, I couldn’t help but notice he was still pressed firmly against me.

“Can I ask you something?”

The hairs on the back of my neck stood up as his breath brushed across my ear. All I could do was nod in response.

“I’ve been meaning to ask you this for a while but I couldn’t figure out the right way. So, I figured I’d just come right out and ask,” he paused. “Rhiannon Hart, will you be my girlfriend?”

“Yes,” I grinned spinning around to face him. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

Before I had the chance to say anything else his lips were on mine. It was the first time we’d kissed since his 21st. I could tell he was a little hesitant, so I kissed him back harder. My arms wrapped instinctively around his neck and I ran my tongue along his bottom lip. Dan wound his arms around my waist and he lifted me so I was standing with my body pressed against his.

Everything around us seemed distant and I almost didn’t hear the wolf whistling in the background until I could hear Bobbi-Jo scolding whoever it was. Dan smiled against my lips and I couldn’t help but smile back.

Normally I wouldn’t be so open in public. But, for some reason I couldn’t care less that people could see us. I liked my new found confidence. I didn’t know where it was coming from and I couldn’t care less. I’d fallen for Dan Flint and I wanted the world to know.

Rhiannon.

Okay, so I'm incredibly sorry this has taken me so long. I've pretty much written and re-written this chapter half a dozen times. I've finally settled on this, so I hope you like it!

I know it's corny but every story needs a little corny in it, so forgive me. I know it's not very long either but it's the best I've got at the moment.

But anyway, comment and let me know what you think!

Thank you to all those that have subscribed and stuck with me this entire time, it means a lot. I love you all! :)
