Fantasies

Fifteen; Tequila Shots

Darlie

I walked around in my hotel room. It's a crappy place to stay, but since Brian wants to go low, then I guess this is it.

I don't want to share a room with Brian because it sometimes gets awkward. He's a man, I'm almost a legal adult. Some people might get ideas. I don't look my age, he doesn't look his either, but still. It's better to be safe than sorry.

I heard a phone ring and walked to the pastel blue colored phone. I picked it up. It might be a wrong number. Or maybe someone is calling the person who stayed in this room before me.

"Hello?" I asked, somewhat shaky. I don't like answering phones at all. I don't even like calling people.

"Hello, Darlie."

I shook at the words that had left the phone, "Who is this?"

"Who else? It's Vergario. Listen, hun, I know where you are. Now, if you want to save your friend's lives, then I suggest that you meet me across the street. I'm just trying to help you."

"If you're trying to help me, then why did you leave me with that man?"

"It's not him you should be worried about. We just wanted Mr.Davis in action so we can then capture him. He's out of your hair now. The one you need to worried about is Brian."

"Brian?"

"Yes. He's not as sweet as you may think he is. I bet he tried to share a room with you, correct? Listen, just meet me across the street."

"I don't believe you."

"You don't have to. All you need to do is come and I promise that there's more detectives here with me. If I even thought about hurting you, they'd have your back."

I shut the phone, not wanting to hear his words any longer. Brian isn't a bad guy, he's helping me. Why else would be let me intrude on his break?

I walked back and forth, not wanting to see what would happen across the street. But I do want to know if Vergario is lying. I believe Brian, there's no doubt about it, but Vergario can be telling the truth as well.

I put on my hoodie and walked to the door, attempting to open it slowly. I finally pushed it, which made a big noise, and walked out of the hall quietly.

I gasped as I faced the same woman we had met when we arrived here in New York.

"Ssh," she whispered, "Come with me. We'll have a drink at the bar across the street." I followed her down the steps and out the door. She smelled of cigars and beer. I'm not a child, I know what she does. Maybe that's more reason for me to trust her.

She probably just needs someone right now.

"Come, we'll go to this place." she walked me to the bar right beside the place I was supposed to meet Vergario at. Maybe this is how it's supposed to be. Maybe Vergario is really the bad guy and so I now have a distraction.

We walked into the bar and I sat beside her. Not one strand of hair left from under the hoodie. No one could see my face.

"Two shots." she said to the bartender.

She looked at me and I looked up at her. She's a beautiful woman with tanned skin. Her hair is a light blonde color and her teeth are almost turning yellow. The bartender came back with our shots and gave her one and I the other.

"Drink up." she said. I took the shot and took a sip. It burned through my throat, causing me to cough.

"First time?" she asked.

I nodded.

"Want another?"

"No, I'm fine."

"Let's go for a walk then." she paid the bartender and we walked out into the cold New York night.

I looked through the side of my hoodie to the restaurant and saw a man with a black trench coat sitting on a chair, almost desperate to meet someone. I looked back down and walked fast, trying to pass it by quickly. She smiled at my oddness and began kicking a beer can that was in front of her.

"Which one is yours?" she started.

"What?"

"Which one of those guys is your man?"

"Oh, neither of them. W-we're all friends."

"I don't believe you." I looked up at her, trying to look confused, "It's impossible to be just friends with men that attractive."

"Well, it's a long story. But we can only be friends."

"Let me guess, you're underage?"

I nodded.

"Well, I started at thirteen."

I looked at her, furious, "Are you trying to tell me that it's okay to be with a man his age?! I'm not even ready. How dare you disrespect me like that. Just because that's the way you swing, doesn't mean it's the route I want to go." I turned around, starting to walk back to the hotel.

"Now wait a minute. I never said you should...you know? All I was saying was that I started dating at thirteen. I've never looked my age. Now that I'm older, it's the opposite. At thirteen people thought I was seventeen. And now, people think I'm in my mid-twenties but I'm just twenty nine."

I looked down and back up at her, "Sorry."

She nodded and I started walking beside her again.

"This is what I do all night." she smiled.

I nodded and she stayed silent.

"Don't worry, I'm not that crazy," she smiled, "Let's get you back."

We started walking through a different street. Stores were still open, but now people were outside. Well, there's always people outside. But now there was mostly men. Men that stood there and just stared at us as we walked by.

I got closer to her, trying to avoid the whistles that came from the men, "Don't worry. They're harmless."

Sure they are, that's how they all seem until you're tied up in a basement. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that you can't just trust people. No matter who they are. You need to be watching your back constantly.

I looked up and I could hardly see any stars. Maybe it's because of all the lights that are on. It makes me miss my house. I miss being with my mom and crazy brothers. I miss my best friend who would make me want to jump out a window.

It makes me miss everything.

"We're here." she said. I looked up at the hotel building. I smiled at her before walking inside.

"Hey, what's your name?" I asked.

"Mia."

"Okay, we'll do this again tomorrow." I smiled and walked back inside. Sometimes all a girl like her needs is some friends. Just because that's what they do, doesn't mean they're a bad person. They just need something to help them snap out of it.

I walked up the stairs, almost falling over.

"Darlie, where were you?" Johnny asked.

"Oh, um, I was with Mia."

"Mia?"

"That blonde girl you chickened out on talking to."

"Oh, Darlie, I won't say this to Brian but you can't be going out. You're still young and if something happens, we won't be able to do anything about it."

"Okay, I promise."

I walked back into my bedroom and closed the door. I won't be telling Brian about Vergario just yet. I somehow feel as if I can't trust either of them. I want to trust Brian so badly, and there's so many things that tell me that Vergario is just lying. But I can't just chose a side without actually knowing who I should trust here.

I covered myself with my sheets and fell asleep.
