The Fifth Floor

The fifth floor at the Mau hospital was mostly ignored, most doctors did not even spare it a second thought. Doctors and nurses alike made jokes in passing about the uselessness of the floor. When any old person walked past the door they were likely to agree. The door was completely bare aside from a small sign written in neat print.

Chemical Dependence

It is what is inside these walls that would change two men from what the world had always expected of them. Into the men they were supposed to be. Hidden behind that door is a ward filled with compassion that most doctors in Mau did not understand. Diagnose, prescribe, cure, and repeat. The truth of the Janice Thickley ward was that it broke the doctor mold, which terrified so many. It challenges the expected, the idea of groupthink.
