The Christmas Miracle

four

“Hi mommy” I smile weakly sniffling at my mommy’s bedside. The doctors and nurses are inside the room with my daddy too, I don’t care though.

“Noel, is that you?” Mommy whispers weakly in my ear, I can barely hear her and cuddle closer up to her cold boney body. “Yes mommy, can I sing you a song?” I ask her hesitantly. “Of course baby, I would love to hear it” her voice is so weak in my ear it makes me want to cry.

“I don't want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
I don't care about presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I don't need to hang my stocking
There upon the fireplace
Santa Claus won't make me happy
With a toy on Christmas day
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you ...”

Everyone was crying when I was done, mommy had fallen asleep but I didn’t mind. I felt at peace, happy, calm, hardly aware of my own tears until daddy picked me up to carry me home and my face left wet marks on his shirt. Sometime during the ride home, I fell asleep in the car all the day’s events laying heavy on my shoulders, the last thing I remember is daddy tucking me in.
