Enchanted

I

Sighing, Kaelin Johnson looked around the room and instantly felt out of place. There were people dancing, some were standing around sipping on champagne, and others were talking about the latest gossip spreading throughout the rumor mill. She was unsure as to how exactly her parents had managed to rope her into attending the function her father's company was throwing to bring in the new year, and congratulate a year of hard work.

Though it was in her mindset that after she had grown up and moved out of her parents house she would no longer have to go on pretending that their family was perfect, her parents seemed to have other plans. Her she was sitting at a table in a back corner of the giant venue booked for the event. Her dress was gorgeous, yet slightly uncomfortable. She was exhausted from putting up a front, forcing laughter when not so funny jokes were told, and faking smiles at the appropriate times. She wished she could just get out of there.

She felt someone staring at her, so she lifted her head, only to see one of the most breathtaking sights she has ever seen. She didn't mean to stare, but damn, how could you not. He had beautiful hazel eyes, and dimples that could make even the toughest of men melt. She caught sight of a slight gleam from the fluorescent lights on his silver lip ring, and she couldn't help but think it just made him look even more, dare she say, sexier.

Her eyes traveled farther downward to take in the rest of his appearance. Strong muscle build, but not to big his muscles were bigger than her head. He wore a dark black button shirt, cream colored tie, and black slacks. The sleeves to his shirt were rolled up to his elbows, showing off the intricate details of his tattoos.

She felt her heart flutter when she heard his velvety voice asking her if he could sit. Not trusting her voice, she nodded and waved a hand for him to join her.

" Not that it is any of my business, but what's a pretty girl like you doing over here all by your lonesome?" He chuckled and flashed her a million dollar smile that was sure to have panties dropping all around him.

" Oh you know, brooding in misery, plotting my escape, and avoiding conversations with people that lack the intelligence to tell the difference between a G-major and G-minor chord. The usual." She replied turning slightly in her chair to get a better look at him.

" Instead of a b, its a b-flat. My name's Matt." He held out his hand for her to shake it. There were those damn dimples again! she thought.

Smiling she shook his hand. "Kaelin. Nice to meet you." She stared at their hands realizing they were still held together. Blushing, she moved her hand from his grip.

" So anyway, back to why you were over here by yourself. You say you were plotting your escape, mind if I tag along? I'm not sure I can handle another minute in here." He asked, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. She thought about her reply for a moment, and then nodded her head slightly.

"Come on." She grabbed his hand and they slipped out an emergency exit. They made their way around the edge of the building and came to a garden that could put the Botanical Gardens to shame. Everywhere around them were flowers of all varieties with lights weaved in and out of bushes and trees.

Smiling, Kaelin walked around and stared in awe. To her, this day had gone from bad to worse in a mere matter of minutes. She had never seen such beauty, and it was times like these she wished she had her camera, but her mother made her leave it.

" What are you thinking about?" Matt whispered. She jumped, having not heard him walk up beside her.

" I was just thinking about how this is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, and I wish I had my camera." She said softly, her hand reaching out to touch the purple orchids.

" Yes, you really are." He turned her to him. She could feel the gravitational pull their lips had on each other. Sure she barely knew the man, but there is no faking chemistry like that. Their lips were centimeters apart, when a shrill ring made them jump back.

Noticing that it was her cell phone, she dug through her purse, looking for the evil contraption that had just ruined what may have been one of the best moments of her life thus far. With a sigh she pressed the accept button, and brought the phone to her ear.

" Hello? I'm outside.... I know mom... Yes ma'am, I understand... I'm sorry... I'll be right there." She ended the call and looked over at Matt.

" I'm sorry, but I really have to go. I had a really great time. Thank you." She rushed out as she started backing up toward the entrance of the garden. She turned and looked at the time one her cell phone. 12:00.
Suddenly she felt like she was in a fairytale, and today she just so happened to be Cinderella.

She looked back over her shoulder and couldn't help but smile. She really hoped she would see him again. There was something about him, that made her just want to get to know him. She smiled to herself one more time before going to meet up with her parent so they could give her a ride back to her house.
