Saviour in a Misfit's Disguise
Chapter Eleven
The insistent noise of my alarm clock called me from the darkness. Reaching over to my nightstand I hit it repeatedly looking for the snooze button. When that failed I grabbed the cord and pulled it from the wall effectively shutting it up. I groaned as I sat up seeing that I was still over top the covers and sleeping like a starfish. I sighed some more before dragging myself to my bathroom and hopping into the shower. I let the cold water hit me and it worked to wake me up. Once it was warm I washed my hair and scrubbed my skin free of the feel of sand. Once I wash washed I stepped out and wrapped my fluffy towel around me. I walked into my room and turned on my stereo to listen to music as I got ready. I blasted Asking Alexandria’s Another Bottle Down (Tomba remix) and looked for underwear. I found a matching purple set and slipped them on. I then found colorful zebra patterned socks and slipped those on as well. I grabbed my clothes bag from the living room and dumped the contents on my bed. I found my black skinnies with the rips all up and down the legs and slipped them on before I put on a plain white wife beater tank top. Over the shirt I put on a little black vest. I put product in my hair to make it curlier than it already was and put on a few necklaces. I threaded my studded belt through my jeans and did it up before putting on suspenders and letting them hang from my pants. I put on some black and silver bangles and a few black jelly bracelets and a leather cuff with a few studs. I walked to my door way and found my high heeled black leather motorcycle boots and put them on. I made myself a quick breakfast of my last few slices of toast and washed it sown with the last bit of my milk. I’d have to go grocery shopping tomorrow before work. I walked to the bathroom to brush my teeth and apply a little make up. My cheek where Gena hit me had a slight bruise on it. Unfortunately I didn’t own and concealer so I couldn’t hide it. Great. I applied some eyeliner and mascara and black silver and purple eye shadow to make my eyes stand out. I never wore makeup but when you feel like utter shit you might as well and try to fool people into thinking your fine.
Once I was all done I grabbed my leather jacket and slipped it on. I also put on my black fedora and noded in satisfaction with how I looked. I may feel really bad but I didn’t look it. I grabbed my purse, turned off my stereo and walked to my door. Just as I was about to open it there was a knock on the other side. I froze before tiptoeing to the peephole to look out. I cursed when I saw Zacky standing on the other side. I couldn’t face him. Not now, I said I’d stay away and that’s what I planned to do. Backing away from the door I grabbed my phone and retreated to my bedroom as he continued to knock.
“Please pick up. Please pick up.” I silently prayed as I dialed Joe’s number and held the phone to my ear.
“Hello.” came her voice over the line.
“Oh thank god. Joe, Zacky is at my door and I need to distract him so I can sneak of to work.” I whispered into the phone.
“Elliot? What are you talking about?” she asked confused.
“Zack is here and he shouldn’t be. I said we can’t see each other and he won’t take no for an answer. He is one stubborn man. I need you to invite him into your apartment so I can sneak off to work. Please Joe.” I explained as I peeked out of my room to look at my apartment door where Zack was still knocking.
“Why? What’s going on Elliot?” She asked confused.
“Nothing. I promise I will explain everything tonight after work but right now please do this for me. Please Joe. I never ask you for anything but please do this.” I pleaded desperately.
“Fine. But you better damn well explain what’s going on tonight.” She said sighing before hanging up the phone. A few second later I hear Joe’s voice in the hallway. I tiptoed to the door and looked out the peephole. They were talking but I couldn’t hear what they were saying. Joe gestured to my door then made a motion for Zack to go into her apartment. Zack frowned and looked at my door before nodding and following her inside. Once her door was closed I waited a few seconds before opening mine and sneaking out. I locked the door behind and quickly and quietly made my way to the elevator. Once I was inside and the doors closed behind me I sighed in relief.
I felt bad for avoiding Zack but it was definitely for the best after what happened last night. Once the elevator reached the lobby I went outside and got into my car. I made the short drive to work with the radio on and arrived at work a few minutes early. I parked and locked my car and made my way inside.
“Whoa sexy mama.” Ty commented the moment I walked in the store. He looked at me with a raised eyebrow and a smirk. “Very sexy indeed.” He said looking me up and down in approval.
“You don’t look too bad yourself.” I smirked looking at him from under my fedora and winking playfully. He was wearing black skinnies with black chucks on his feet and a plain white V-neck shirt. His arms looked very nice in the shirt and he knew it too. His blue eyes were sparkling with mischief from under his black hair. He was dressed simple but he looked good.
“I’m hot. Just admit it. There’s no point in denying this attraction between us any longer.” He remarked as he followed me to the back room so I could put my stuff in his locker with his things. There wasn’t enough so we had to share.
“Right. You can keep telling yourself there’s a mutual attraction but we all know your being delusional.” I said laughing as I took off my jacket and stuck it in his locker along with my purse and closing the door. I turned to face him and smirked at him.
“There’s no winning with this girl Ty. I can tell that already. Might as well give up.” Jake said from his desk as he went over some paper work.
“Never. I will get her eventually. It will happen and it will be glorious.” He remarked as he stared down at me in a playful challenge.
“The glorious part is true, but you getting me? Only in your wildest dreams Ty.” I said suggestively before I walked out of the room. I heard Jake laugh at Ty’s expense before Ty walked out of the room and followed me to the front.
“Oh that’s just cold Love. Why must you be so cruel?” he asked placing his hands on his heart and looking at me with a wounded expression.
“It’s all part of my charm. Admit it, it’s got you hooked.” I said playfully leaning against the back counter at the register.
“That it does Love, that it does.” He said chuckling and leaning against the counter infron of me so he was facing me. He frowned once he got a close look at my face. He stepped forward and grabbed my chin lightly and tilting it up so he could see better. “What the hell happened?” he asked as he trailed his fingers lightly over the bruise.
I sighed and pulled my face out of his grip. I explained to him what happened at Johnny’s once Brian. Michelle and Gena showed up. He listened to the story quietly and once it was done he looked angry as hell.
“What a count! She had no fucking right to touch you. Brian is such a fucking dickbag. You should’ve punched the bitch.” He growled angrily.
“What’s the point in stooping to her level? I’m a better person than she is if I was able to just walk away from it all. Needless to say I won’t be seeing Zack, Johnny or Lacey anymore.” I sighed sadly.
“You shouldn’t let them walk all over you like that though.” He argued.
“I said from the beginning that I would only stick around if I didn’t cause trouble. But trouble is all I’m causing so letting them go is the better option.” I said shrugging and scratching absently at my cast.
“Wrist itchy?” he asked looking pointedly down at my right wrist.
“Yes. And it’s pissing me off.” I hissed as I scratched the exposed skin on my arm.
“Give me your hand.” Ty ordered as he held out his hand. I frowned but placed my wrist in his hand. He grabbed a pencil from the counter and used it to scratch the skin inside my cst. He was gentle but he definitely got the job done.
“Oh thank Christ.” I said as he pulled the pencil out and the itch was scratched. “You are my hero of the day.”
“Glad I could help Love. I broke both my wrists more than once so I know all the tricks.” He said shrugging.
“This is the first bone I’ve ever broke. It sucks. I’m right handed and now I have to learn to do everything with my left hand.” I grumbled.
“How did you break it?” he asked curiously.
“Uh… I was stupid and jumped off of a swing. I landed on it wrong and viola.” I said rubbing the back of my neck sheepishly.
“Smooth move.” He scoffed crossing his arms across his chest.
“Well how did you break your?” I asked as I sat on top of the counter.
“Fell out of a tree when I was 10. Visiting Family in Wisconsin and I decided it was a good idea to climb a tree. Didn’t go so well. After that it was all skateboard accidents. But after a while I perfect it and now I have mad skills.” He said cockily as he smirked at me. “Though it is very difficult to play drums with a broken wrist.” He said grabbing a purple sharpie and taking my cast in his hands.
“You play drums?” I asked interestedly.
“Yeah. Me and a few of my friends started a garage band in high school. We just play local show when we can get them. Mostly bars. It’s just for fun mostly.” He said as he drew a cartoon picture of himself on a skateboard.
“Wow. That looks so awesome.” I said staring down at the little picture in awe.
“It’s no big thing. Just a hobby. Don’t look till I’m finished.” He said as he started on another cartoon.
“No big thing? I’d kill to draw like you.” I said honestly as I looked instead at the tattoos on his arms. They were colorful and very good. Whoever did them was an amazing artist.
“Took a lot of art classes in school. And when my parents were going through a nasty divorce this was my coping mechanism. I just got good with practice.” He explained shrugging.
“It’s more than just practice, it’s also natural talent.”
“I guess. But everyone has something there good at. What about you? What’s your thing?”
“I’ll let you know when I find out.” I said with a shrug.
“There must be something you like to do.” He pushed.
“I write. Stories poems, lyrics anything really. It’s my coping mechanism.” I said with a shrug.
“Coping with what?” he asked as he looked at me before looking back at his work.
“I lost my dad when I was 14 to suicide and almost four months ago I lost my mother and my fiancé to a car accident. Drunk driver. I survived and they didn’t” I said quietly.
“A broken bone will heal, but a broken heart isn’t so easy.” He said quietly. “Look.” He said as he took a small step back so I could look at my cast.
The moment I looked at it I gasped in shock. He drew me in almost perfect detail on a swing. The wind was wiping my hair around and my eyes were closed and I had a smile on my face. The fact that he was able to draw something that detailed and beautiful on a cast was amazing. I looked up at him shocked to see him staring at me. For the first time since meeting him he was straight faced and serious. I stared at him speechless. I felt shy and I blushed slightly before looking down then back up at him.
“This is amazing Ty. It’s beautiful.” I said looking up into his blue eyes.
“Well it is you after all. I’m glad you like it.” He said with a soft smile that made his eyes sparkle. “If it helps any, I lost my girlfriend of three years a little over a year ago. Losing someone you love like that does get easier. It helps if you always have a piece of them with you.” He said lifting up his t-shirt sleeve and showing me a tattooed portrait on his bicep. It was of a pretty girl with curly hair and a cute round face. She was beautiful.
“She was beautiful.” I said as he lowered the sleeve.
“She was. Her name was Emma. It does get easier Ell. It just takes one day at a time.” He said as he looked down at me. It was quiet for a few seconds as we just stared at each other before the door chimed and brought us out of our trance. He smiled at me softly before turning and going to help the customer.
I sighed and hung my head. Once I really thought about it I wasn’t so sad anymore. I mean yes I still hurt and I missed them every day, but it was also easier to get up every day and move on with life. It would take a long time till I was completely ok, but I was making progress. I smiled down at my cast and felt happy that Ty was now a part of my life.
For the next few hours we worked and joked around like we had known each other for years. Ty was fun and knew how to make me laugh. He was the kind of person who you couldn’t help but to love. He was just so full of life and energy. He had an infectious personality and I loved it.
It was around 3:30 and I had a box of Cd’s by my feet and I was stocking the shelves of the metal section and lightly singing along to the song on the radio when I hear someonce clear their throat behind me. I turned and who I saw completely surprised me. He was the last person I expected to see in here.
“Dr.Reese?” I said shocked as I stared up at him.
“Please it’s just Morgan. I’m off work for the night.” He said smiling at me.
“Oh ok. Well anything I can help you with Morgan?” I asked politely.
“Actually there is. See I happen to find this certain young woman attractive but she has no idea I even exist.” He said sighing sadly before smiling at me. I stared at him completely shocked and at a loss for words.
“Um…” I managed to choke out before frowning up at him.
“When do you get of work Elliot?” he asked sticking his hands in the pockets of his blue jeans.
“Not till closing and that’s at 9. Why?” I asked confused.
“I was wondering if you would go out for coffee with me. I’d like to ask you out on a proper date but I have a feeling you would say no to that.” He said as he shrugged and smiled. His confidence was a little disarming. I felt like a stuttering fool around him.
“I…um…no.” I stuttered out. “It’s not for the reasons you think. I um lost my fiancé recently…I um.” I stopped and chewed on my lip, not sure what to say to him.
“I’m sorry to hear that. And I understand now why you said no or pick up on the fact that I was flirting with you at the hospital. I’m sorry for that.” He said smiling apologetically down at me.
“I wouldn’t mind going for coffee as friends, but I can’t handle anything else.” I said as I stared up at him. Curse my shortness; I was getting a crick in my neck from looking up all the time.
“Then as friends it is. Tonight?” he asked.
“I can’t tonight. I work until 8 tomorrow so maybe then?” I offered.
“That works. I have nights off this week thankfully. Here’s my number. Give me a call when you have time. No rush. Bye Elliot.” He said smiling and handing me a piece of paper before walking away and out the store.
“What was that all about?” Ty asked as he came over to see me looking down at the piece of paper in my hand.
“That was the doctor who put my cast on. He’s apparently interested in going on a date with me.” I explained.
“Seriously?” he asked looking at me closely.
“I said no. I’m not ready to date. I told him we could go for coffee as friends, but I don’t want anything more. He agreed to that.” I said stuffing the paper in my pocket and going back to stocking the shelves.
“He won’t be the only guy that asks you know. You’re a beautiful girl Elliot and guys notice that. More will ask you.” He said as he grabbed CDs and helped me.
“They can ask till their blue in the face. I’m not dating.” I said matter of factly with a shrug.
“Eventually you’ll have to move on.” He said just as matter of fact as I did.
“Eventually yes. But not right now. It’s been four months. It way too soon to be even flirting with anyone.” I said pointedly as I looked at Ty.
“But you are flirting with me, at least a little bit. And you have to know by now that I’m attracted to you. I was the moment you walked in the store and I know you were as well. It’s not wrong, it just hurts. You feel like you’re betraying them and you’re forgetting them. I’m a patient person Ellie; I can wait till you’re ready.” Ty said as he looked down at me with a serious expression.
“Don’t say that. Not you. I need a friend, that’s it. Just a friendship that’s strictly platonic. Can you do that?” I asked looking up at him, wanting very much to bury my attraction for him.
“I can and I will. I know what it’s like. I’ve been in your shoes Ellie. I’ll be the friend you need right now. But when you’re ready the offer will still stand.” He said truthfully.
“Life would be so much easier if I was a lesbian.” I muttered as I leaned into him. He chuckled and wrapped his arms around my waist and held me close.
“Life isn’t supposed to be easy. It’s supposed to challenge and nearly break you. Those of us who are able all come away from it stronger and better people.”
“Thank you Dr. Phil.” I scoffed as I pulled out of the hug and frowned up at him.
“Welcome.” He smirked before he walked away from me and went back to work. I scoffed again and smile a little before frowning as I worked and thought. I couldn’t lie to myself any longer. I did feel and immediate attraction to Ty and he wouldn’t definitely be a person I would consider dating if circumstances were different but as it was it hurt to even consider it. Morgan was good looking sure and very confident but he was more Joe’s type then mine. I like em tattooed, artistic and into rock music. I figured since Morgan agreed to be friends I could play match maker and try and set him up with Joe. She deserved a good man for both her and Sam. If things kept getter better then maybe I would consider dating Ty. He was a good guy after all and he knew what it felt like to lose a significant other. He understood my pain. For the next few hours we worked like the conversation had never happened for which I was thankful. Bye the time 9 rolled around I was emotionally drained from all the thoughts fighting for attention in my mind. We closed up the store, grabbed our things and locked it behind us. Ty being the gentleman he is walked me to my car.
“Going home?” he asked as I put on my jacket before unlocking my car door.
“Yeah. I have some major explaining to do to my neighbor.” I sighed as I thought of going home and Joe interrogating me. Ty looked confused so I just shook my head and said never mind. “What about you?” I asked as I leaned against my car.
“I should, but I don’t want to deal with my roommate and a messy apartment. They guy had a party last night while I was at my moms and the place is trashed. He’s waiting for me to come home so I can clean it. I’d go right back to my mom’s but she left town for a few days for a work trip.” He sighed a he ran a hand through his hair.
“What a dick. Well I have a couch and it’s pretty boss for sleeping on.” I offered with a shrug.
“You sure? I don’t want to over step on any boundaries.”
“Positive. Here. I’ll give you the address and you can come over after you grab some clothes and things for tomorrow.” I said writing my address down on a random receipt from my purse and handing it to him.
“Thank you Love. I appreciate this greatly.” He said pulling me into a quick tight hug.
“It’s not a problem. I’m on the fourth floor, apartment 8C. See you later Ty.” I said climbing into my car and starting it.
“Later Love.” He said closing my door for me before walking towards his own car. I pulled out of the lot and made my way home, not looking forward to talking with Joe.

“Fell out of a tree when I was 10. Visiting Family in Wisconsin and I decided it was a good idea to climb a tree. Didn’t go so well. After that it was all skateboard accidents.
