Fanny Hathaway (Rose) is forced to move to America when her dad marries a suburban housewife, Tasha. In New Jersey Rose meets Elena and her group of misfits, Gerard is the calm leader with a hidden drinking problem, Mikey (his brother) has the maturity of a 2 year old, Bob is the sarcastic one, Ray has a 'i don't give a fuck' attitude and Alex and Jack are the only openly gay people at the school. Fanny is accepted into the group and quickly falls for the towns bad boy Frank Iero, but he's already dating her step-sister Jamia (Tasha's daughter) and has a reputation for being a bit of a man whore. Fanny quickly learns the food chain of New Jersey and its no place for the innocent.
