Prologue; If I left, would you even miss me?
Marissa Evans loved Newport Harbor. She loved hearing the waves crash into one another when she walked down the street. She loved the sweet smells coming from the bakery mixed with the salty sea air. She loved the view from her front porch of the rocky shoreline. She loved feeling the sand squish between her toes as she crossed the boardwalk. She loved everything there possibly was about Newport Harbor: especially the people.
Everyone Marissa encountered was nothing but friendly towards her. They would smile and wave whenever she called out a greeting. They would ask her how her day was going and were seemingly interested in whatever she said. They would even give her a ride home after school if her old, beat up Mustang wouldn't crank. The people of Newport Harbor genuinely cared about Marissa, with the exception of her parents, and that's what she would miss the most about the only place she had ever called home.
