The Kind of Hoax That Leaves a Lump in Your Throat

When the doorbell went the next morning and no one else could be bothered to answer it, I opened it to find a very puffy eyed Freddy behind it. I stepped back and shut the door after he’d come in and then just nodded my head into the living room. He just nodded solemnly and slowly pushed the door open.

I didn’t wanna pry, but I had to make sure liana was ok so I sat at the bottom of the stairs ready to jump in if things got heated. I liked Freddy, he wasn’t a bad guy at heart, I think it was just his protective side coming out last night. I heard a few sniffs before Freddy woke liana, much to her protest. She must have got a little upset at the sight of him because I could hear him pleading with her quietly to let him explain.

“Baby im so sorry” I heard him whisper. “I was completely out of line last night. I just see the way other guys look at you and it works me up because I still have no idea why you’re with me. You could have any guy you wanted but you stick with me. And then all those guys look at you like some prize or whatever and I see no reason why you wouldn’t leave me for one of them. It’s not that I don’t trust you, I guess I just have zero self confidence”

“No offence” she sniffed and then let out a little laugh, “but that’s the most stupid thing ive ever heard. Ever since I set my eyes on you, you were all I ever wanted. I mean ask violet, she was the once who had to put up with my ramblings. I don’t want anyone else. Oli was pissed last night, as was I and we were just having a bit of fun. If I’d have know it would have upset you that much I would have never done it”

“No I was just being over sensitive” he said, and I could detect a smile in his voice. “So we okay?”

“Sure” she laughed, and figuring I didn’t want to hear whatever was coming next I travelled back upstairs. I’d almost made it back to my room when I heard my name being called from corals room.

“Is it safe to come in” I asked from the outside, and I heard her and Sonnie laugh before I wandered inside. They were both sat on the bed with a load of books around them. I joined them a read the cover of a book that was called ‘the a-z of baby names’. “Wow you guys are really getting into this huh?” I giggled and they just smiled. “You thought of a name yet?”

“Well if it’s a girl, we’re thinking of Ruby” coral smiled. “You know I really wanna stick with this whole colour theme” she smiled but my mind went blank.

“What colour theme?”

“You know, the one mum has going on. Violet and coral are both colours right, so I wanna name my child after one”

“I never though about that, I always thought about violet as in the flower and coral as in what nemo lives in”

“No mum told me she named us after colours”

“Well you learn something new every day then eh? So what are you gonna call it if it’s a boy? Cause you cant call it like blue or green”

“No the colour thing only applies if it’s a girl; if it’s a boy then we were thinking something like Alfie or Ollie” she smiled. She was about to say something else when her phone went. By the look on her face it was someone important and she ran out of the room fast to answer it.

It turned out that she’s come home early from the last shoot because she’d told them about the baby. They still wanted her for the shoot so the filled it in to the three days instead of the week so she could get home and rest. The also told her agent who was now setting up countless shoots for her to model maternity stuff, so really it was all working out in then end.

“So how do you feel about all this stuff” I asked motioning to the countless books on the bed.

“As long as she’s happy, im happy” he smiled. “Coral wants to have a bit of a get together, or in her words a “pregnancy party” he said, air marking the words. “She wanted to ask if you could help plan”

“Yeah sure that sounds great” I smiled, and then coral wondered back in, a giant smile on her face.

“Ive got another maternity job lined up for a few months time” she smiled and she fell back onto the bad. Sonnie kissed her temple and then she turned to me.

“So yeah what do you think about helping me plan?

“Sure that’s fine” I smiled and she smiled back excitedly.

“Well I’ll leave you too it for now, ive got stuff to do. Oh coral have you phones mum and dad yet?”

“Yeah” she smiled. “They took it really well actually; they’re coming over in a few weeks to see us”

“Good, well I’ll see you two later then” and with that I went to my room.

Once inside I saw the little red light at the top of my phone flashing, telling me I had I text. I unlocked it and found the text was from josh. My heart had now somehow made its way to my throat and I swallowed hard before opening in.

Well it’s not like I had anything better to do so I said sure and to meet me in 20 minutes. I took a quick shower and threw on some clothes just in the nick off time. I was halfway down the stairs when the doorbell went and I quickly called that I’d be home later before opening the door.

There he was.

I swear I’ll never get tired at looking at this boy. He gave me a small smile before kissing my cheek and grabbing my wrist, pulling me from the door way.

“How are you this morning love?” he asked and I felt the butterflies swim as he spoke.

“Im alight. Freddy came over so him and liana made up, plus coral and Sonnie and knee deep in baby land so I’m kinda glad to be out of the house”

“I could clearly sense your pain” he smiled and we carried on waling, making idle chit chat.

Once we got there, he wouldn’t let me pay for anything no matter how much I protested. I wasn’t even sure what film we were seeing, but once we got into the theatre there was hardly anyone in there.

We sat near the back and only a few more people came in. about half way though I rested my head on josh’s shoulder and he rested his on top of mine, placing a light kiss on my forehead.

We grabbed a bite to eat afterwards and then he walked me home again but I want ready to leave him just yet, so we sat on the front step just talking.

When josh and I started to go wrong I never thought we’d be the same again. I never thought we’d be able to get back to how we used to be. But here we were, talking like we used to and all those feeling were resurfacing.

“I guess I better get back, all the guys are coming round” he huffed and stood up, pulling me with him. We held onto each other tightly and when I started to pull back he just held me tighter and I couldn’t help but laugh into his chest.

We eventually pulled apart and said our goodbyes. I watched him leave and didn’t go inside until he was fully out of view. When I did go inside everyone was gone so I went up to my room.

My room was a state since I was rushing around this morning so I put my iPod on and got to cleaning. I was almost done when crash came on. I hadn’t listed to it in weeks because I couldn’t face it, but I stopped what I was doing and just listed.

Two lines stood out to me and it was like I’d found the missing link. The answer had been right there all along but I hadn’t found it because I was scared to listen.

I knew what I had to do so I grabbed my phone and rung who I needed to. Just when I was about to lose hope, she picked up on the 5th ring.
