Frist Dance (Crishtofer Drew Ingle Love Story)
Chapter Two: How Lovely
I stepped out of Thea's car and gazed at the venue. It was tall, and looked like
something straight out of an ancient Greek setting. After seeing how many couples
were walking in on the red carpet, I automatically felt lonely. I hate Loveland, I
thought. Loveland, Colorado, yeah.
Thea walked around to my side. "You okay?"
I shrugged and kept my head down. "I guess..."
Thea looked around and suddenly caught my drift. "Oh. Well don't worry, you'll find
someone! Maybe even tonight..." She giggled but noticed I still hadn't looked up.
Thea put her arm around me and rested her cheek on my shoulder.
"Let's go in," She said grabbing my wrist and dragging me into the venue.
If I didn't feel ugly enough outside, I sure did now. The room was the size a football
field. Everyone there was dressed as if they were heading to a Hollywood event
instead. Pictures of Thea's mom sparkled against the golden decore. I felt
uncomfortable looking at all the long ball gowns. Everything was so classy.
Thea grabbed my wrist, hauling me across the floor. "Come on! There's someone I
want you to meet!"
"Uh-ok!" I said, stunned as she yanked my arm almost out of its socket. Thea
dragged me up to a boy with beautiful blond hair. His eyes were hazel and--I
stopped staring at him before he thought I was strange.
"Chistofer, this is Kayleigh. Kayleigh, this is Christofer Drew!" Thea said, breaking
the awkward silence.
"Hello," I mumbled, still staring into his eyes.
He giggled and said, "Hi. It's nice to meet you." We shook hands and then I went
right back to staring at the floor.
"Uh..." I could tell Thea was fishing for something to talk about. "Me and Christofer
used to play when we were younger, you know, back when I lived in Missouri."
"Heh," Christofer smiled. "Good times." hey threw a few jokes back and forth before
Thea looked at me.
"Oh! Kayleigh, do you wanna go dance?" She asked. I listened to the music that was
playing.
"Me and you...dancing to a slow ballroom song?" I squinted. "Is there something you
need to tell me....?"
Thea rolled her eyes. "No silly." She glanced at Christofer and then pulled me back a few feet.
"Dance with him."
I looked over her shoulder to Chris. He stood there, looking at his glass while waiting for us to go back. "I can't! I
can't dance and...he wouldn't wanna dance with me."
"Don't be silly! Of course he will!" She hauled me back over to him.
"Chris, you should dance with Kayleigh!" She squealed. I could tell Christofer was listening to the song as closely as
I was. The song was super corny and romantic; a type of song I wouldn't mind listening to if IΠhad a boyfriend.
"Uh, sure. Why not?" Christofer finally said. I looked at him. My cheeks were flaming. My heart started pounding
like I had just eaten a hummingbird.
Thea punched my arm. "Go." She mouthed as I looked up at her.
Christofer took my wrist, and pulled me back over the the dance floor. We found a little quiet spot behind a few
other couples. I didn't know what to do. I'm not a dancer, I thought. Christofer seemed to know exactly what he
was doing. He placed his hands on either side of my waist.
"Uhhh..." I mummbled. I pulled my weak arms up on his shoulders and tried to follow his lead. He led my hips back
and forth, and before I knew it, I was dancing.
"So," he started. "Tell me about yourself?" I kept my hands on his shoulders and my eyes on the ground, making
sure I didn't step on him.
"Uh...I'm Kayleigh," I said.
He giggled. "Got it. But what do you like to do? Like, hobbies?"
I bit my lip and thought for a second. "Music. Music's my hobbie right now. I'm not much of an athlete. Although, I
did play soccer when I was younger, I suppose that was my hobbie back then. As of now, music's it for me. But
maybe music is not enough...Plus, I don't get fresh air or--". I stopped short once I realized I was talking too fast
and too much.
Christofer kept staring at me. "Go on!" He prompted.
This time, I looked at him like he was crazy.
"I was listening...until you interrupted," he mocked. He let me ramble on about hobbies I've had in the past, my
hobbie now, and hobbies I would hope to have in the future. I don't how he did it. I would've shot myself by now
with how much I was talking.
"So yeah. But, what are your hobbies? Hehe.." I finally said, ending my constant babble.
He took in a deep breath after twirling me around a little bit. "I'm in to music, too. Alot actually. Right now, I'm
working with some of my buddies on tracks. Kinda going for a pop-type sound, you know?"
Honestly, I don't remember what he said after that. I was focused on the way his lip ring shimmered off the
backdrop of his smooth, light skin. Or the way his hair fell perfectly to his neckline. Or the way his mouth moved
when he--
"...But once I write down my main ideas, the creativity just starts a'flowin'," he said smiling, showing his perfect
set of teeth. Yeah, the teeth. Almost forgot about that.
"Uh, so like, you and Thea were best friends?" I asked. We started moving a bit slower, trying to match the tempo
of the song that was playing.
"Yeah, we were. Things we different in Missouri. Everything was so much easier. Not that Colorado moves any
faster, but still. I'm not used to being invited to events like this, pretty much because we don't have venues like
this."
Everything was melting around me. I was oblivious to anyone who was around, except Christofer. Someone
would've had to hit me in the head with, oh I don't know, maybe a purse to get my attention.
"OW!!!" I yelped as Thea cracked her clutch purse on the top of my head. Christofer let go of me and his eyes "Let's go," Thea mummbled.
"Wha-why?" I asked, confused.
"Just...come on." She snatched my wrist and pushed Christofer aside.
We were almost to her car when I realized I had lost my necklace somewhere inside of the building.
"Thea wait!" I shouted before she could get inside the car. "We have to go back! My necklace!"
She started the car anyway. "Get in or I'm leaving without you," she said when she cracked the window.
"But--". The car inched forward.
"Alright, alright!" I climbed in the passenger seat, and we sped off.
