There's No Escape...
Be More Careful
That was so close, she had seen me way too many times, I had to be more careful, she could recognise me from miles away.
I had to change the topic of our conversation, so I started to talk about our English project, and I got her to agree to working with me. I was happy, but just one thought was haunting my brain; How much did he know? She seemed to know a lot, after all she was a really smart girl. And you shouldn't underestimate anyone.
There was awkward silence between us, the sound of sighing and small, slow breaths filled the room. I looked around for something to talk about. But nothing.
"So princess, I think it's time for you to go, so um..do you want me to drop you off?"
"No it's okay, I'll make my own way home." she smiled innocently, it looked kind of cute, but it would be a shame if I wasn't destined to see that smile again.
I lifted her head up with my finger. "Princess, asking you was just a formality, you're not going home on your own."
She looked up at me, with those emerald green eyes, she was quite tall but I stood at 6'1, a whole four inches difference. "Oh okay, but I didn't want to trouble you, I've already given you enough trouble."
"Oh come on, stop being so formal with me, I mean we're friends aren't we?" She gave me a confused look, furrowing her eyebrows. After a few minutes her facial expression softened and she replied.
"Um..." she smiled an continued talking "I guess we are, and I owe you for saving my life, or at least taking care of me."
"No prob, it's okay, and that's right you do owe me, but let's make a deal, I am allowed to cash in that favour whenever I want." I held my hand out for her to shake it and confirm the deal. She slowly reached for my hand and shook it.
She grinned, something I had hardly ever seen her do, "Deal!"
"Great! Come on let's go, I'll drop you off." in reply she just smiled and I couldn't help but smile back. I met her gaze and our eyes locked for a moment.
She looked down at her feet, probably trying to avoid looking at me. I broke the silence, "Um, let me grab my car keys and then we'll leave, okay?"
"Okay."
I rummaged through my drawer for my keys and found my keys along with my knife shaped necklace, my eyes widened, I'd been looking for this. If I hadn't found it King would've killed me. I shook my head, put my chain round my neck and hid it under my shirt. I was about to walk away when I remembered the thing I came for. Car keys. Quickly grabbing them I jogged back to my room where Alice was waiting for me.
"Come on let's go"
"Finally. Let's go"
"After you." I bowed down like a gentleman holding the door open for her.
"Thank you." her replies were so quiet yet calm.
We were on our way to her house and I followed the directions she gave me, her house wasn't very far from mine, it was just a fifteen minute drive. I parked my car in her drive way.
"Thanks...for everything."
"It's okay"
She got out the car and walked towards her door, I watched silently she was about to put the key in the key hole when it looked as if she'd remembered something and turned around, walked back to my car and knocked on my window. I reeled it down.
"I forgot to give you your grandma's glasses. Here." she was about to take them off when I stopped her.
"No it's okay, you can keep them." I felt my phone vibrate but I ignored it for now.
"I can't, they belong to your grandma, must be special to you, I can't keep them. It'd be wrong"
"Alice, it's okay, really."
"Well, do you wanna cone inside?"
"No sorry, some other time, I really gotta go right now"
"Okay, bye."
I started the engine, "Bye." and with that I drove off. I stopped by a near by curb to check what I was assuming would be a text.
=•=•=Alice's POV=•=•=
I watched his car exit my driveway, I sighed and shook my head, still deep in my thoughts; how could someone be so nice and a murderer? I knew it was him, it had to be. But why was he being so nice? Maybe because he doesn't want me to blow his cover, or it's because we go to the same school. I had to find out more. Just his description wasn't going to help.
I let go of all thoughts and walked inside, I put my keys in the key box and noticed a note in there. I reached for the note but someone else's hand was faster than mine, they grabbed my hand making me jump and stopping me from reaching for the note.
My eyes widened when I saw who it was. It was HIM. The murderer, he was wearing his black hoodie with his hood up. I was unable to see his face. My breathing quickened and I gulped. He stepped forward and cornered me. His sinister laugh made my skin crawl and it sent a shiver down my spine. I was sweating, I could feel it. I wanted to know whether it was him or not. I reached for his hood but as soon as I touched it he was gone. Like that.
I looked all around to see were he had gone. There he was again, on the staircase, laughing.
What was going on? Was I imagining this?
=•=•=Andre's POV=•=•=
I unlocked my phone and saw that my guess was correct. I opened the text and saw that it was from King;
'Meet me at HQ, NOW.'
I frowned wondering what it would be about. I put my phone back into my pocket and headed towards HQ. In case you don't know what it stands for then let me tell you, it means Head Quarters. It's a secret place our group meets up for meetings or important announcements.
I parked my car behind the building and got out. I made sure I still had the necklace round my neck. I looked at myself once and walked towards the back door. I entered the room and everyones attention was bought to me. Was I the last one here?
"You're late!" King shouted from across the room.
"Sorry King, it won't happen again." I looked down.
"It better not. We were all waiting for YOU."
"But why?" I was a little confused this rarely ever happens.
"Why are you asking me? You should know. What happened yesterday?" this side of King scared me, this guy wasn't afraid of anything, not even killing anyone. He could kill me in a matter of seconds if I ever lied, but I couldn't tell the truth.
"What happened yesterday?" I decided to play it cool. But King wasn't easy to trick. He was holding me by the collar in seconds and it made me jump but I didn't show the fear on my face. He was just about the same height as me, but at least one inch shorter.
"Don't give me that crap! I know you took the girl home, and you also left your knife behind!" he shouted at me through gritted teeth. Damn. He found out. "If you're a part of this group you will have to be more responsible!" he had a stern look on his face and I knew he wasn't going to leave me until I gave him the truth.
"I'm sorry, but what else should I have done? Left her there? And as for the knife, it was a huge mistake, I will make sure not to repeat it again. But if it was Maria, what would you have done?" that shut him right up. Not that I didn't respect him or anything but he's been on my case lately and it's starting to bug me now. Maria was his wife, they had a son as well who was also a part of our group, he was only sixteen.
His grip on my collar loosened and he stepped back giving me back my personal space. He looked down, looked back up and answered my question.
"I would've done the same thing." he turned around and turned his head slightly " I don't want you repeating your mistake again. But the biggest mistake you made was let the girl witness the murder"
Oh crap! I thought to myself, I knew what was coming. I shut my eyes tightly, and put my head down, as if I wasn't going to hear his next few words.
"Andre...you're going to have to kill her."
