The Way We Were

Leonardo

Audrey's POV

I was with the ladies, laughing and dancing around with everyone around us. Jack twirled me around and amused me, until I was quickly held by my waist from another person. I laughed as I shook my head, recovering from dizziness, and soon realized it was Nikolas.

"Hello Nik." I laughed.

"Audrey, I'd like to introduce someone to you." He smirked, he moved a little out of the way and revealed to me Leonardo who was looking very sharp and suave in his suit.

"I'm pleased to meet you." Leonardo politely smiled, extending his hand to shake mine, so I gently placed my hand in his.

"Lovely to meet you Mr. DiCaprio." I smiled, looking over my shoulder and Jack who patiently waited for me.

"I noticed Leo here taking a keen interest of you while I was up at the bar, I just had to introduce you two." Nik smiled, he looked over his shoulder and saw that Marilyn arrived at our party. He quickly excused himself and left, signalling Marilyn to join him in the private booth.

"Is that true Mr. DiCaprio?" I grinned.

"Is what?" He asked, distracted by the abruptness of Nikolas' departure.

"You took an interest in me."

"Oh, well, your brother makes it sound bad. I had noticed you, well, because to me you are the perfect image of Daisy Buchanan."

I wasn't expecting an answer like that. At first I smiled, then I started to laugh and a few others joined me.

He looked down, immediately I felt bad for embarrassing him. "Mr. DiCaprio, please forgive me." I waved off the others, "excuse me, I'll join you all later-Mr. DiCaprio, would you join me for a drink? Upstairs?"

He smiled and nodded, "I'd like that very much."

"Great." I smiled back, linking my arm with his and leading him upstairs. I figured that Nikolas was using my booth for his "recreational" reasons, so I invited Leonardo to sit with me at a table for two. I asked the bartender to bring me another champagne.

"So Mr. DiCaprio, how do you like the club?"

"You don't have to call me that, you can call me by my name or even Leo." He chuckled, "I like the club very much, I especially like this theme. 1920s, very romantic yet historical."

"I am pleased you like it. Now, what was this about Daisy Buchanan?"

"Oh, from the Great Gatsby."

"She and I have a lot in common." I smiled, sipping at my champagne.

"I'm actually going to be a part of the new film."

"Really?" I leaned forward.

"Yeah, I've been cast as Jay Gatsby. But don't let this information get out, it's still confidential. Anyway, we're still looking for a Daisy Buchanan."

"And you think that I'd fit that part?"

He hesitated, "To be honest, yes." He smiled.

"Well, it's tempting no doubt Mr. DiCaprio, but my fiancé has asked that the film that I'm currently working on would be the last...well, at least for a while."

His expression dropped, "Oh, and why is that?"

I hesitated for a moment and then softly smiled, I leaned closer, "Can you keep a secret?"

He nodded.

"Well, in four days we'll be getting married...and soon, we hope, we'll start a family."

His eyes widened with surprise then a grin formed on his handsome face, "Are you serious?"

I smiled and nodded.

"Well then, forget it, I take it back. I wouldn't ever want to take you away from that. Congratulations." He laughed.

"Shh, neither thing has happened yet. But thank you in advance." I smiled, "Caleb, my fiancé, and I are very excited. I've waited a long time for this dream to finally become a reality."

He smiled and placed his hand on mine, "I'm very happy for you."

"Thank you." I smiled. "So Mr. DiCaprio, since the talk of me joining you as Miss Daisy Buchanan has obviously fallen through, what shall we talk about?"

He smiled, "Hmm...what is it that you're currently working on?" He lightly laughed.

I lifted my hands and leaned back into the chair, "Oh it's fabulous. I'm doing a film called Factory Girl, it's a biopic on the late Edie Sedgwick and her relationship with Andy Warhol. I'm playing Edie, and you know Guy Pearce? Yeah, well he's playing Andy. Oh he's absolutely amazing! I love working with him, he's so encouraging. He really brings the best out of you."

"That sounds really good. How far along are you on the film's process?"

"Mm," I thought for a moment, "Well, we've been filming for a little over two weeks, pretty much almost everyday ,all day. Almost half-way I'd say." I laughed at the rhyme.

He gave a laugh, "That's really good."

"It is, well, I think it is. What about you? What're you working on?"

"I actually just finished doing a film with Quentin Tarantino-"

"Oh I love Quentin!"

"Yeah he's amazing. Anyway, it's sort of a Western film based on the slavery of African-Americans in the deep south, it's actually not a heavy film, but it still recognizes the issue of it. Um, and I play a plantation farmer, the bad guy. And, I can't say too much, but Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, and many other amazing actors are in it."

"Ooh, Leonardo a villain? That's something new." I smiled.

"I've always wanted to do something like that though, I'm always the hero. I think it's healthy for actors to try something new, to at least avoid being type-cast. Isn't there something you'd like to try?"

"Yeah. I mean, I love doing biopics and portraying real people, but I'm starting to feel that because I'm always playing a character with a dark or painful past, and I'm always playing someone who is angry or in suffering, I'm only receiving film offers to play characters like that. I think my ultimate film role is...and don't laugh...is to be in a musical."

He was grinning, already I felt embarrassed for admitting that. "Really?"

"Yeah. I love musicals, they're light and almost require more acting because there's less spoken word. In Julliard, that was my strong suit. I've always wanted to sing in a film, and a musical offers that." I blushed.

"That sounds really great. If the chance ever comes up, take it. Don't hesitate. What musicals did you do in Julliard?"

"Well, my audition into Julliard was at first a fail. They require a singing audition to get into the program, so I did "The Man That Got Away" from Judy Garland's A Star is Born, and I was so nervous and my voice cracked, and right in the middle of it they dismissed me. They wouldn't even let me explain or retry. I was shooed off the stage, and I was shaking with intensity, I told the next person to wait, and I walked back onto the stage and broke in my back up song, which was "Don't Rain On My Parade" from Funny Girl. They were in shock. Never before had someone done something like that, and they were impressed with not only my performance, but my determination."

"Wow, Julliard. You did it the easy way, going to school for acting." He smiled.

I laughed, "Ha! Easy? Not at all, I didn't start professionally acting until a little more than year and a half ago. I've been modelling and making music in between."

"What was your first film again?"

I smiled, thinking about it. "I'm Not There, an artistic Bob Dylan biopic. I played one of the six characters that embodied a different aspect of his life. My first movie role was to play a man." I laughed.

He smiled back, "That's amazing Audrey. Not many new actresses can say they've played roles like the ones you've done. You've achieved great success in a short amount of time, and proven your credibility to everyone."

"Thank you. That really means a lot, especially coming from a big shot actor like you." I laughed.

"Well, I can't argue with that." He joked, leaning back into his chair, making us both laugh.
