The Way We Were

Tents and Poolsides

October Thirtieth

Caleb's POV

I woke up about twenty minutes ago, passed out and hungover next to the pool. My crazy brother Jared was over at the bar mixing himself a bloody mary while most of our guests were either slowly waking up or still passed out on the lawn or in their tents. My back ached from sleeping on the hard ground, so I stretched as I walked over to Jared.

"Have you seen Audrey anywhere?" I yawned, looking around not seeing my wife in sight.

"Nope, I've been up for like, an hour already nursing this hangover. My second Bloody Mary. You want one?" He smirked.

"No, just fix me a water with lemon. I'll be back." I walk toward the house and went in. Edie and Nik sat at the counter sipping what looked like tea, so I asked them the same question I had asked Jared.

"Not since we got up. I haven't seen her since last night." Edie shrugged her shoulders.

"Hmm." I made a face and went upstairs to our room only to find it empty. I noticed her phone on the vanity table which concerned me, she never went anywhere without her phone. As much as I tried to avoid thinking negatively, the thought had crossed my mind that she took off.

I looked at her phone and checked out things to see if she left anything in it that would tell me where she'd be. The only I found was an odd text from some number that obviously wasn't in her contacts.

"Sorry for the way things ended...but congratulations anyway. I hope you two are happy."

Again I made a face and sighed, putting her phone in my pocket, deciding to go back downstairs and outside. Beck then walked out of his tent and rubbed his head laughing, looking like her just woke up.

"I don't know if you were wondering or not, but your wife fell asleep in my tent." He spoke in his quiet monotone voice.

"What? Really?" I laughed.

"Yeah, my wife and I had to share a bed last night, Audrey fell asleep on the other bed." He replied.

"Sorry 'bout that, I'll go check things out." I smiled, walking over to his tent, opening the door seeing her asleep on one of the beds, in her dress with her dirty feet sticking out from under. I managed to stifle my laughter as I ran over to one of the cameramen who were still around. I got him to bring his camera over and start filming.

I stood next to her and took out her phone from my pocket, taking a picture. I began tapping away, uploading it to her twitter. I read aloud;

"This is Caleb tweeting for his new wife. Looks like someone had a good night. She fell asleep in someone's tent. I guess that's better than waking up next to a pool."

She woke up just as I had posted the picture laughing.

"Caleb?" She mumbled.

"Yeah." I laughed, kneeling down next to her.

"Where am I?" She buried her face into the pillow.

"In Beck's tent." I smiled.

She lifted her head and looked at me. "What?"

"I don't know what happened last night, but I just ran into him and he told me you fell asleep on one of the beds." I couldn't control my laughter, "He and his wife had to share a bed."

She rubbed her eyes and turned over, but then noticed the camera. "You're filming!" She quickly turned back.

"You look beautiful, come on, let's go out."

She then reached for the sunglasses hanging from my shirt and put them on. Slowly she got up and smiled at the camera.

"Where's your shoes?" I asked.

She looked down at her feet and didn't say anything for a long time. "...I have no idea."

I just smiled and took her hand as we went out with the camera still following us. "Why were you laughing when I got up?" She asked.

"I uh...took a picture of you with your phone...and posted it on...Twitter..." I gave her phone back to her.

She then stopped and looked at me. For a moment I felt my heart palpitate with regret.

"This is a great way to start off a marriage." She laughed as she kept on walking.

I gave a sigh of relief. She walked over to Beck and his wife and started apologizing for what happened. "I had no idea I fell asleep in your tent! I'm so sorry!" She laughed.

"That's attractive." Jared chuckled holding up his phone showing Audrey the picture of herself.

She rolled her eyes and sat at the bar with the others, she took out her phone and went onto Twitter.

"I did not give my husband permission to post that. #greatwaytostartoffthedayandmarriage LOL"

She then reached out and grabbed my collar, pulling me close to kiss me.

"I honestly didn't mean to fall asleep randomly. It must be a pregnancy thing, I get tired so easily!" She smiled.

"Maybe you shouldn't drive anymore, Tennessee doesn't need a narcoleptic terrorizing the streets." I laughed.

She rolled her eyes and pushed me away, "When are the caterers coming?" She asked.

"I think they're already here. Looks like they're setting up down by Ma and Pa's home. We'll have to walk over there." Jared answered her question.

"We'll have to work for our food?" Dan groaned, joining the group looking pretty rough.

"Jared go be a town crier and let everyone know that breakfast is at your parents." Audrey yawned.

"You mean lunch." Jessie smiled, walking over with Nathan.

"No way, what time is it?" She asked.

"A little after twelve." Nathan replied.

Audrey smiled at me and we both started laughing. Later on after the announcement was made, we made the long journey over to my parent's place. Picnic tables were set up in a circle enough for all of us without having to be separated and the caterer's were serving breakfast favourites along with some lunch items, including my favourite and Audrey's new pregnancy favourite, chicken and waffles.

Audrey hugged Jack and pulled him next to her to sit down. They smiled at each other as they clinked their jars of lemonade.

"You know, I know it's a terrible thing to say, but I miss smoking." Audrey chuckled.

"I'd hate to be pregnant. I don't ever wanna give up smoking." Jared replied, making us laugh.

"Here, pretend this is a cigarette." I gave her a stick of celery.

"More like a cigar." She laughed.

"I wouldn't recommend smoking that." Jack laughed.

"Oh Jackie boy, what am I to do with myself?" She smiled, putting her arm over his shoulder.

I then heard a loud clearing of someone's throat. I looked up and noticed my mother looking at me, she gave me that look that was like, get over here or you'll regret it for the rest of your life. I sighed and got up, going over to see what was up.

"Caleb, why is your new wife being so touchy feel-y with that man." She whispered.

I rolled my eyes and sighed, "Don't start. Ma, she's always been that way. It doesn't mean a thing, that's just the way she treats her friends."

She didn't say anything, she just pursed her lips. I looked over at Audrey and saw her playfully push away Jack as she pulled one of our female guests into a hug and started a conversation with her.

"See." I smirked, walking back to my seat.
