The Way We Were

The party was in full force and everyone as always, were enjoying themselves at our first Halloween party. Our wedding guests were all here too, so we were surrounded by friends dressed up in costumes. Jack had introduced me to his girlfriend Shannan, finally I met her, and she was...nice. Not exactly the most friendly of girls, but she seemed nice. While Caleb and I were dancing silly to "Time Warp", Nathan and Jessie came over, dressed as pirates.

"Let me guess, Hugh Hefner and a Playboy bunny?" Jessie laughed, looking us up and down. We laughed, she guessed right. Caleb wore a red silk robe and pyjamas underneath and slippers on his feet, while I was dressed as a Playboy bunny with bunny ears.

"Yeah, while I'm still slim I wanted to dress up as a bunny." I laughed, holding hands with Caleb.

"She's doing a good job at it too." Caleb smiled, giving me a kiss.

"Well let's go get a drink." Nathan smiled, then stopped and looked at me, "Uh, well, we'll get you an iced tea."

He made me laugh. I shook my head and followed them up to the V.I.P. bar. The music was blaring and I sat down on the couch next to my brother while I waited for Caleb. I looked at Daniel and burst out laughing, "Daniel your costume is amazing! Are you supposed to be a werewolf?"

His hair was pushed back and he had fake sideburns stuck to his face, he also wore fake fangs and furry gloves with claws. But what caused me to burst out laughing was that he was wearing a red leather jacket.

"I'm Michael Jackson from Thriller." He chuckled.

"And Betty Boop I'm guessing?" I smiled, looking at Chanel who was all cute and looked exactly like the retro pinup girl.

"Yes." She smiled, posing.

I looked past her at a bowl of M&Ms on the table. "Ooh, Chanel can you pass the M&Ms?" I guess the pregnancy cravings were kicking in. She handed me the bowl and I couldn't stop eating them, and when Caleb came back he laughed at me.

"Hungry?" He asked.

"I like candy." I smiled.

"Did you wanna go get something to eat?" He asked.

I thought for a moment and ate some more candies. "As much as I love parties and everything, my favourite thing to do on Halloween is just stay home and watch slasher movies and eat candy until I go into a candy coma."

He smiled, "Did you wanna go home then?"

"Well, let's stay for like, another hour. I wanna see everybody."

He kissed my cheek, "Okay. Let me know when you wanna go, I'm gonna see the guys downstairs."

"'kay."

I sat with my brother and a few of our friends for a while, keeping quiet and listening to the conversation until I got bored. So I got up and went to my booth with my bowl of M&Ms, stealing another bowl of skittles. I was alone in the booth with my legs resting on the seat and my head resting on the wall behind me. My eyes were closed until I heard the curtain open.

Jack smiled and came in, closing the curtains again and sitting across from me. "How's your night?"

I shrugged my shoulders, "The party is great, but I'm so tired. I think it's yet another pregnancy thing, I'm always tired."

He laughed. "I still can't believe it."

"Neither can I." I chuckled, pushing the bowls of candy toward him.

Eating skittles, he smiled at me. "So, you met Shannan...what do you think?" He raised an eyebrow.

I smiled, "What do you mean what do I think?"

"Don't act coy, you're the most opinionated person I know." He laughed.

"I only voice my opinion when it is needed. It isn't needed now." I grinned, popping a skittle in my mouth.

"Oh Audrey, what would I do without you?" He smiled.

"Not much my dear, not much." I laughed, patting his hand. "Let's stay here for a while, Caleb and I are gonna go home in an hour or so."

"So this is probably gonna be your last movie for a while, huh?" He asked.

I thought about that. He was right. Once I'm done Factory Girl, I have nine months and then...a year...who knows how long after that. "Wow...that's a long time. I never thought about it."

He just smiled and took a drink.

"Well, I guess it'll give me time to learn to cook, and clean, and...be a housewife." I shrugged my shoulders, still thinking about it.

"Audrey? A housewife? I find that hard to picture." He bit his lip to keep himself from laughing.

"I know, but I think it'll be nice. Caleb and I will staying at our home in Nashville, and he'll be going on tour for a bit, but he'll be back in time...that's crazy, I'm married, gonna have a baby. Everything's changing." I smiled.

"I'm happy for you." He smiled at me.

The curtain then opened and I looked up to see Caleb with that smile on his face. "You know what, forget another hour, let's just go home, get on the couch and pile blankets on top of us and watch horror movies."

I smiled at him and then looked back at Jack, "I think you should go and find Shannan. Your girl should never leave your side. Goodnight Jack, Happy Halloween." I got up and left the booth with Caleb. We got out coats and left the club, his arm around my shoulders and my arm around his waist. Club-goers were still waiting in line outside and a path was cleared for us by the security.

At home we did as we planned, piling blankets on the couch and turning out the lights. As I was in the living room putting a movie on, Caleb was in the kitchen getting candy for us, and he came back with a pint of Starbucks coffee ice cream.

"You read my mind." I smiled, tapping my foot on the floor from excitement.

"What are we watching first?" He asked, setting down the snacks and sitting next to me.

"Halloween, the original one." I answered him, covering up under the blankets.

"Cool."

"Did you know that I'm named after him?" I said, taking a spoonful of ice cream.

"Who?"

"Michael Myers, the serial killer from Halloween. His middle name is Audrey." I smiled.

"Are you serious?" He laughed.

"I'm dead serious! Everyone thinks it was my mom that named me, and everyone thinks I'm named after Audrey Hepburn, but it was my dad. He loved horror movies and he noticed that his name was Audrey, so he named me that." I laughed.

"I had no idea." He chuckled, "I'm learning more about you everyday."

I smiled and hugged him, getting comfortable as the movie started. "Well first thing you should know, I love watching horror movies in the dark."

"Yeah, I got that." He smiled.
