The Way We Were

Long Days

Image

November Twenty-Second

The next day we had to be on set by 5 am, and were planning on working till 11 tonight. We had finished already three quarters of the film and were nearing the end, so why we had to work long days everyday was because we wanted to power through this and get the tensions high, just as the scenes required.

It was lunch break, and our meals were catered so I just fixed myself a plate of fruit and half a sandwich. I was in my trailer when Caleb called me, so I quickly answered it.

"I just realized that you were probably asleep when I called you last night, or, well early this morning." He laughed. "I forgot you work long days so you don't stay up as late anymore."

I laughed, "That's okay, I was partially awake at that time, I just got in and started to fall asleep on the couch."

"Your director makes you work that late?" He sounded concerned.

"Sometimes yeah, but not last night, Jack and I went out to dinner and a movie, we haven't hung out in a while and it was a long day." I spoke.

"Yeah? What did you go watch?"

I thought for a moment, I knew I couldn't say Drive. "uh, 50/50, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt."

"Really? That's cool, how was it?"

"It was good, really good. I like it, a lot...but enough about me, how are you? I miss you." I smiled.

"I miss you too, so much. I'm alright, we're in Toronto now, we're playing two shows, one tonight and one next weekend. So we're spending the week here."

"Oh really? That's nice, Toronto is a really nice place."

"But how are you? Other than being tired." He laughed, "How's our baby?"

"I'm good, we're good. But you know how I had such a voracious appetite and constant cravings? I don't get them as strong as I used to. And the morning sickness, I haven't been sick in days. So maybe I'm gonna be one of the lucky ones and not have to go through a stressful pregnancy." I chuckled.

"Maybe." He laughed, "I miss you so much, babe."

"I miss you too, do you know exactly when you'll be back?" I asked.

"Our manager said middle of December, I still don't know which day, but it'll be before Christmas. We're just doing Canada right now and in the new year we'll start the American tour."

I nodded, "Well the days will go by soon."

There was a knocking at my door, and the voice of my assistant started up. "You're needed back on set, filming will resume."

"Oh Caleb I have to go, can we talk again later?" I asked.

"For sure, before or after the show?" He asked.

"Probably after, we're filming till eleven or so."

"Okay, I'll text you first. I love you." He replied.

"I love you too, I'll talk to you later. Bye."

"Bye."

I left my plate of food and rushed out back on set. We were filming a scene where I'd be in The Factory with my co-star Hayden Christensen who played a character based on Bob Dylan. It's a tense scene between him and Guy, who is playing Andy. In this scene I'm just standing off to the side smoking a fake cigarette, since I had to give up smoking altogether.

During this scene I started having a backache but I couldn't' show my discomfort while on film, so I just dealt with it and continued on. When I re-entered the scene in the elevator, I had to argue with Hayden, having to break up with him because I chose Andy over him. I worked myself up for that scene by thinking about my emotions regarding Ryan.

When the director called cut, I wiped away the tears and shook off the feelings. George played back the scene and shook his head, "Let's do that again. Audrey give me more emotion."

I nodded and closed my eyes for a moment, thinking about Ryan again, our fights, my dreams. It really stressed me out, so I went into the scene with that emotion.

Later on in the day while George filmed the others, I sat on the side and kept quiet, feeling more of a discomfort in my back. I walked around for a bit until George announced our next scene.

"Alright, we're gonna need the makeup and costume department on set, Audrey needs to be wearing the brown haired wig now."

I changed out of the dress and took off the earrings and jewellery while the makeup artist took off my makeup and put on a different look now. I must have been in the makeup and costume department for about an hour. When I was finished we drove out to a closed off street in New York to do my quick scene out in the cold. We must have redid it about four times, and I was getting more and more cold.

When the scene finished I rushed into Jack's arms and held him tightly, he laughed as he hugged me and rubbed my arms to keep me warm.

"George are we done?" I asked in a whining tone.

"Yes, go back in the vehicle and we'll go back to the set." He replied, so Jack and I rushed back into the car and I sat in his lap until I warmed up.

Back on set the guys did their scenes and I waited on the side, snacking on my food. But I ended up taking an advil because my back bothered me. But when Jack would finish his scenes with the others, he'd come and sit with me and I'd feed him crackers, making us laugh.
