The Way We Were

Goodbye Past, Hello Future

Image

September 21st

Caleb and I had spent a romantic and long needed vacation on Richard Branson's Necker Island. Richard was so dear to us, he sent us champagne every evening and gave us an entire Island of privacy.

Everyday Caleb and I would go for a swim or for a hike through the lush green trails, and we had the most perfect and picturesque view off the ocean from our guest house. Once in a while I'd be lounging in a hammock, trying to write a song or anything for that matter.

I was trying to force inspiration.

It didn't work.

But on a lighter note, we had everything we needed and more, and I was no longer feeling guilty of post-poning the wedding, because we needed a break from reality. I'm sure Ryan and Lily gave a sigh of relief when they, along with 350 other guests, learned that we cancelled the wedding.

But our vacation didn't last long enough, as we were back in Tennessee getting ready to go our separate ways. Kings of Leon were flying to Australia to kick off their six month tour. They's start there then go to select cities in Europe; Italy, Spain, Germany, France, England, etc. Then they'd tour Canada.

I was getting ready to go back to London to finish a few scenes for the Marilyn movie.

At the airport, my brothers were with me and Caleb and his were with him. I hugged them each and wrapped my arms around Caleb's neck, kissing his lips. "The next time you see me I'm gonna have short hair, I'll have Edie Sedgwick's voice, and I'll be as thin as a waif." I laughed.

"Ah, the joys of being a method actress." He smiled, kissing me back.

"I love you Caleb, I'll miss you." I half-smiled.

"I love you too Audrey." He replied, but then started whispering, "But do you realize that until Christmas when we're together again, we're going almost three months without, well, you know." He raised his brow.

I started laughing as I playfully pushed him back. "Is that all you ever think about? C'mon Caleb, a little abstinence will do us both some good." I chuckled.

He sighed but then laughed, "Fine."

Over the speakers, his flight number was called for boarding. He sighed as he looked at me, "Well, this is it."

"Why are we always saying goodbye?" I asked, half-smiling.

"We should be used to it by now." He replied, wrapping his arms around me and giving me one more kiss. "Let's just not say it this time."

"Okay." I smiled. "I love you. Have a safe flight."

"I love you too." He smiled, "I'll call or text you as soon as we get there." He turned and grabbed his bags. He told me he loved me one more time before walking away with his brothers.

"So you and Edie will move all my stuff into my new place while I'm gone?" I turned to Nikolas. I recently rented a loft in the Greenwich Village area, I thought that since I'd be in New York for awhile I'd get a new place.

It's really the most ideal and perfect place for me; it has a library large enough for my book collection, a small kitchen since I don't cook much, a fab living room for entertaining, and in the attic I'm going to convert it into an art studio so I can paint and draw. I think of it as my own "Haus of Gaga". My haven from reality.

"Yeah, I'll leave her in charge of decorating, it seems that girls have more knowledge of that sort of stuff." He chuckled.

The speakers called my flight number.

I shrugged my shoulders. "That's me." I smiled. I hugged Daniel and Nikolas, giving them each a kiss on the cheek.

"Remember, when you come back, you'll be a new woman." Nik smiled.

"I'll think we'll all be new people. Times are changing for this 2nd generation of Versaces." Daniel added.

"Then let's make a pact. We'll move on from our old lives, and start living in the moment. I mean, we've all got projects to be worked on. We need to change." Nikolas replied.

"I'm all for it." Daniel said.

"Me too." I smiled.

"This is our time." Nik replied.

We all smiled, looking at each other with a sort of intensity in our eyes, like we knew something big was in our future. It was almost a devilish smirk we each had. But whatever it was, it excited me. I was ready for it. Even if it meant breaking a few rules in the process.
