You're Pretty From Afar

twenty six.

Mia and I were in Kingston shopping for something to wear for the guys album release party next week and I was so hungry that we decided to grab a bite to eat before continuing with our shop.

“So are we just going to avoid the whole topic of you and Josh the other day?” Mia asked innocently.

I almost choked on my salad at her bluntness; where the hell did that come from?

“Umm, well if I knew what you were talking about maybe, but seeing as I have no clue, we should just continue talking about something else,” I suggested, trying to avoid the conversation even if I was clueless to what she meant by it.

Mia grinned to herself, “I saw you last night together at the bar, acting like nothing had happened and I saw that smile you gave him. I know you Lily, and I know that smile,” she looked at me expecting me to respond.

To be honest I didn’t know how. I thought it was kind of ridiculous how she just assumed that Josh and I were back on track, because we were far from it. I suppose I was just sick of all the fighting so I made an effort to be civil, it was for everyone else’s sake more than my own.

“Mia, we had one conversation that didn’t last more than three minutes, it hardly constitutes for a relationship. I just don’t want to fight anymore, I’m tired of it and it’s just easier being nice to each other,” I brushed the subject off.

Mia rolled her eyes, “Whatever you say.”

“I’m serious Mia, it means nothing. You know how much he hurt me, I can’t put myself through that again and I’m not about to begin to. I can barely manage to be civil to him right now so let’s just leave it at that,” I said sternly.

“Fine, I’m sorry. Let’s get shopping because we need to get back to Dan’s later,” Mia suggested, obviously knowing it was time to drop the subject.

“Pepperoni or Hawaiian?” Dan asked me as I sat down on the sofa next to Holly and Matt.

“Surprise me,” I smiled knowing he’s get annoyed I hadn’t given him an answer.

“You’re so difficult,” he grumbled.

Dan had invited everyone over tonight for pizza and drinks so we could all just chill out together. Mia and I had just arrived at his house and everyone was already there. Matt, Holly, Chris and Georgie were just lounging about laughing at Josh and Max play Fifa. Max was obviously winning because he was jumping up and down laughing and screaming excitedly, whilst Josh sat on the floor with a face like a slapped arse, swearing and shouting at the screen.

“Fuck that!” Josh yelled.
Max just laughed at Josh hysterically, they were both so childish it was unreal.

“Mate, you do realise you just got totally and utterly thrashed by Max,” Matt grinned.

Josh just glared at Matt who then decided it was a good idea to back off. I had no idea why boys took these games so seriously; I guessed it was just a pride thing. Josh usually was the one who thrashed everyone else, so whenever he lost he just got into a pissy mood. This time he picked himself of the floor and flounced out like a girl which left the rest of the room in stitches.

“Okay pizza’s on its way, let’s put on some tunes,” Dan announced to the room.

I quickly got up from the sofa and went to get myself a drink, “Does anyone want anything whilst I’m up?” I offered.

“No thanks, you’re all good,” Chris smiled.

I grabbed a can of coke out of the fridge and turned around to exit but was startled by Josh’s presence, “Jesus, you scared the shit out of me!”

“Sorry,” he said glumly, reaching for a beer out of the fridge.

I couldn’t help but laugh at his grumpy mood, “You’re not seriously still upset by the game are you?”

Josh looked up at me, “No,” he said sheepishly and I knew he was lying.

“Well then, come back in and stop being such a diva,” I laughed as I walked out the kitchen as Josh followed me like a puppy dog.

I collapsed on the spare sofa and Josh sat next to me; I didn’t mind, I could just feel everyone giving each other strange looks, they were either really awkward like ‘what the hell is going on’ or like Dan, Mia and Max they couldn’t help but smirk at each other but I just rolled my eyes.

Although I had eaten four slices of pizza I could still do with another one and couldn’t help but eye it up as it sat in the box.

“Last chance, who wants it?” Matt held out the box to everyone, I kept my eyes on it, I really did want it but I didn’t want everyone to think I was a greedy shit so I just left it to be polite.

Just as Matt went to take it himself, Josh grabbed it out of the box and grinned at him.

“That offer wasn’t to you actually Josh,” Matt said, annoyed he didn’t get the piece.

“Sorry mate, a guys gotta eat,” he smiled cheekily.

When everyone went back to their own conversations or watching the movie Josh nudged me slightly, “What?” I asked quietly.

“Take it,” he whispered, I noticed the slice of pizza in his hand that he was trying to discreetly pass to me.

“What? No, I don’t want it,” I lied, why was he giving me the pizza?

Josh smirked, “Don’t lie, you were practically infatuated with it, your mouth couldn’t water anymore if it tried and I knew you weren’t going to take it out of politeness, so I took it for you,” he smiled.

“Why?” I said confused.

“Because I’m nice okay, now eat it before I do,” he pushed the slice into my hand and I took a reluctant bite out of it but it tasted so good and I could feel him grinning to himself beside me.

“No need to say thanks,” he laughed as I devoured the food and I couldn’t help but smirk at him. He knew food was exactly the way to win me over, sad but true.
