Special.

002.

I kept my head down as I walked to my next class, I knew people were talking behind my back but I couldn't think about that, all I had to do was to concentrate and get through the day then I could just go up to my room and stay in there. Hopefully my roommate wouldn't cause me any problems.

As soon as I found my next classroom I walked in and made sure to find a seat in the back hoping the teacher wouldn't call on me to introduce myself again.

“It's her,” I heard someone whisper.

I swallow hard and stare at the desk, I didn't want anymore attention.

“It was Zilia, right?” I hear someone ask besides me.

I nod unable to look at the person.

“You know I have to give it up to you, you have some balls.”

This time I couldn't help but to look at him, and I couldn't help but to notice it was the same guy from home room,“What?”

“Seriously saying that you're a half-vampire in front of the class takes some cajones

“I guess there's always a first.” I say in a low voice.

“Just a piece of advice, don't talk too much about it.”

“Yeah I kind of figured that out.”

“Alright class settle down.” A tall woman says as she waves her had around to gesture the students to be quiet.

“Before we begin I would like to know if Zilia Keystone is here.”

As soon as she said my name a few whispers were heard around the classroom.

“Here,” I say softly raising my hand.

“Good, I'm glad you didn't get lost.”

I give her a small smile feeling relieved she didn't ask me to come up and present myself up to the class.

The rest of the day went by similarly, I found a seat in the back and made sure not to talk to unless the teacher asked me to. And for lunch I just went up to my room and locked myself until my next class.

“Miss. Keystone can I please have a word with you?” Mr. Peterson asks me when class is over.

I nod and walk to his desk “yes?”

“I would just like to apologize for this morning, I didn't mean to put you in an uncomfortable situations.”

That was an understatement.

“Okay,” I say and walk away before he can say anything else.

I knew he was trying to right a wrong and I wasn't going to make it easy. He had been the one to ask me how long I had been seventeen for, if he hadn't I wouldn't have talked about my situation.

I walk into the hallway just to be greeted by glares and nasty looks.

I sigh and look at the floor as I walk towards the exit.

“I'm telling you, she's an abomination to our kind.” I hear a girl tell her friend as they walk past me.

“Her parents are the abomination.”

I bite my tongue as my hands clench in anger, all I really wanted to do was to hit them.

“Relax,” somebody whispers besides me as they take a hold of my arm.

I look up at her and realize it's Vanessa, my roommate.

“Trust me you don't want any more problems.” She says as she leads me out through the door leading outside.

“You're-”

“Human? Yes I am.” She replies with a small smile.

“There's a reason why they bunked you with me.” She then says as she starts walking away from the school.

I follow her unable to say anything.

“I didn't know there were any humans here.”

“There's always exceptions, just like you.”

“It's actually quite a surprise, I mean no offense but your kind is far more hated than humans.”

She walks up to a tree and then takes a sit in the shade, she gives me a smile and I take a sit next to her.

“You don't talk much do you?” She asks me after a couple of minutes of silence

I shake my head.

“Well I like to talk, so this silence is killing me.”

“I'm sorry.” I mumble.

“Can I ask you a question?”

I nod.

“Do your parents live among humans?”

“Well not entirely, we live in luxury apartments that is specifically for vampires, but other than that we pretty much co-exist with humans, I used to go to a public school.”

“Must have been hell.”

“It was terrible.”

“So the people in your building know about you?”

“Yeah I grew up with them and they never made a big deal out of my existence.”

“Well it isn't going to be the same here, they're going to try and make you miserable and pretty much beat you down, but you can't give them the satisfaction.”

I look at Vanessa and by her sympathetic expression I knew she had gone through the same thing.

“How can you be so strong?”

“It's all in your character, walk with your head help up high and don't let them see you crack.”

“Thank you,” I tell her with a small smile.

“You're welcome. I'm actually going to head inside because I have a club I have to get to, but I'll see you later.”

I nod and I watch her as she walks back inside the building.

“Walk with your head held up high,” I tell myself as I stand up.

I take in a deep breath and exhale as I make my way into the main building. I walk in and decide to go for the stairs instead of taking the elevator.

“Trying to avoid people?” I hear someone ask and I freeze.

“Wow, hey I'm not going to hurt you.”

I look behind and see a guy with brown hair and green eyes.

“Yes I'm trying to avoid people.” I say my voice coming out as a whisper

“I didn't mean to frighten you.” He says looking regretful.

“It's okay, you just caught me off guard.”

He gives me a smile showing his perfect white teeth making sure to hide his fangs.

I can't help but to smile back.

“I'm Zack,” He says extending out his hand.

“Zilia,” I say and shake his hand.

“Well I'm going to continue avoiding people and head to my room.”

He smiles at me again causing my face to get hot, I turn around embarrassed and run up the rest of the stairs.
