My Mistake, So Predictable

A Party Song (The Walk of Shame)

Friday: Zack’s Party

“Tell me again why I agreed to do this?” I ask Alex, laughing as Jack balances a half empty beer bottle on his forehead.

“Because you looovee us,” Jack sings, cursing profusely as the bottle crashes down on his face, the contents spilling down the front of his skinny body. Alex and the rest of the group burst into loud laughter and I can’t help but join in. It’s the third time he had done it in the last five minutes and it was still hysterical. I do help him stand up back up though, letting him lean against me as his very drunk body sways to the tempo of his own song.

“Will you dance with me?” Jack asks, leaning his sweaty head in the crook of my neck. His puppy eyes meet mine for a second and I give in easily with a sigh. Who could say no to those beautiful and dark eyes? I pat the top of his head gently. “’Course.”

I let Jack lean against me as we sway slowly to the pulsing music, which was more suitable for grinding, moshing, or something more along those lines. He doesn’t speak as we move, continuing to breath hotly on my neck where he was resting his head. Jack’s hands are clamped lightly on my sides and mine are tight around his shoulders, keeping him from falling and crushing me. We finish the song and then Alex steps over, tapping Jack on one of his shoulders. Jack smiles at his intent and then sloppily kisses my check, winking at the both of us. I watch for a second as Jack staggers over to Rian, crashes in to him and then knocks them both to the floor where they laugh and play fight with each other.

“Boys,” I mumble and then giggle at Alex’s insulted face. His hand outstretched to me and I take it, letting him pull me in close to him. “You’re cute when you laugh,” he whispers close to my ear. I bite my bottom lip, ducking my head. “That was the oldest line in the book.” I inform him as soon as I can look him in the eye without blushing.

He winks, “But it worked on you.”

I don’t bother with a reply; it wouldn’t be the truth anyway. Instead I let our hips sway together for a few more beats before I talk again. “How did you meet everyone?” I ask curiously. The room we were in was packed, and Alex seemed like he was good friends with almost everyone here.

He opens his mouth to answer but his words get cut off as another song comes on, louder than the previous ones. The crowd around us erupts and Alex whoops as more people join us to dance, pressing me closer to Alex’s chest.

“Good song?” I guess.

“Great fucking song.” He tells me, moving our hips together. I wrap my arms around his neck and he tightens his hands on my waist.

“Shorty said she wants to run away, says I look like a boy she used to date. Took me by the hand and pulled me to the stairs, (not interested girl).”

I let the song take over, a long time since I had danced like I was now; body sweating, hips grinding, and a gorgeous dance partner smiling down at me, belting out the lyrics with the rest of the crowd.

“I feel like dancing tonight, I’m going to party like it’s my civil right.”

The crowd swelled and grew as the chorus rang out, the beat bringing us even closer than before until I wasn’t dancing with just Alex but with everyone in the room. I moved a little to my right and danced a little with Zack before Alex pulls me back to him, his chest flush against my back.

Alex grabs my hips and I wind my hands around his neck bringing his head down towards mine. He grins and locks me to him, moving his face until its right next to mine. I can feel his hot breath on my throat and I yank on him until we are as close as possible; one body dancing smoothly to the music instead of two trying to find the others rhythm.

Too soon the song ends, and the crowd cheers loudly, toasting with their drinks. Alex presses his lips to my throat for a second before he pulls away grinning, then drags me to a couch. He throws himself down and opens his arms, letting me fall in beside him, Alex’s arms tucked around my waist.

“That was fun.” I admit, pushing my sweat drenched hair back from my face. Alex tucks it behind my ear and I grimace. “What?” he questions eyes wide, innocent.

“I’m sweaty.” I complain, “You probably didn’t want to do that.”

Alex chuckles and leans closer to me until our noses almost touch; his breath warm on my face. I let my eyes start to close, anticipating the kiss, but I feel something wet touch my cheek instead and my eyes shoot open to a content looking Alex.

“Did you just lick me?” I laugh, swiping my hand down my cheek to erase his spit.

Alex licks his lips and pulls back from me, “You taste fucking delicious.” He informs me, moving his arm so it squeezes my shoulder instead.

“You’re disgusting.” I gag, “That was so nasty.”

His eyes twinkle, “Would you like it more if I did it again?” he asks, dipping his head for another round.

I shoot out of his arms, wide eyed and race to Rian’s side, who is nursing a red cup. “Sup?” He calls over the music.

“Alex is being gross,” I tell him, “Do you want to dance?”

I watch as Alex looks for me in the crowd, his eyes full of laughter. “Touche!” He yells across the room when he spots me, giving me a two fingered salute.

Rian laughs at Alex’s reaction and places his cup down on a table. “I never turn a pretty girl down.” He winks and leads me to the middle of the floor, staying further away than me and Alex had been- which gave us room to talk as we danced.

“So what do you think of Alex?” Rian asks out of nowhere, moving to the music. A new song had come on, one I wasn’t familiar with but the bass was great and the place rocks with the sound of it.

“Did he tell you to ask me?” I wonder, leaning close so he could hear me.
Rian nods, caught, but a smile crosses his face after a brief worried second. “What should I tell him?”

I think about it, “Tell him he’s a perv and he should stop staring at my ass right now.”
Rian leans closer to my ear, “He’s not staring at your ass.” He tells me and then leans back, motioning for me to look for myself.

I turn and look at Alex, spread out comfortably on the couch, his eyes find mine immediately, almost like he was waiting for me to look for him.

Rian nudges me with his hip towards Alex, “Go!” He laughs already sidling up to another girl. “I can find another partner.”

I laugh and follow his advice, slipping smoothly through the crowd to the boy who opened his arms again. “Miss me?” he asks, burying his head in my neck.

He can’t see my grin so instead I nod and twine my fingers through the hair on the back of his head. Alex and I sit like that for awhile, not sexual in anyway, just comfortable. A couple more songs play before he pulls back from me, searching my eyes.
“I should take you home,” He sighs, “But I don’t want to.”

I bite my lip and search the room before connecting our eyes again, “I don’t want to go home.” I tell him truthfully.

He groans and stands, pulling me with him as he went. On our way to the door I catch the eyes of Zack who I thank for the party. He winks in reply and toasts me with his cup all while grinding against another girl. It amazes me how these boys could multitask so much at a party but ask them to walk and speak and they fumbled ridiculously.

Alex and I finally make it to the door after what seemed like hours of pushing through throngs of people. The warm air outside met us and I head to the passenger door, jumping as footsteps race up behind me.

“I got it.” Alex insists, opening the door and waiting for me to step in before he closes it. He heads around to the other side of the car and hops in, starting it, blasting the heater. I had forgotten how cold it was until now. The dancing and body heat of a dozens of other bodies had kept me warm for most of the night.

The radio plays softly as he drives, and every now and then he glances over at me. “Did you have fun?” Alex asks; it was the first time I had seen him nervous. It seemed uncomfortable to him, like he was rarely ever scared of someone’s reaction to him.

“Yes,” I say immediately, connecting his eyes so he understands I’m not lying, “I had an awesome time.”

“Good,” He nodded, and then turns up the radio, “I love this song,” He tells me and sings along quietly, tapping out the beat on the steering wheel.

“You have a great voice.” I tell him, my words becoming sleepy as the sound of his gentle singing lures me to sleep. He looks over at me, smiling wickedly. “Thank you.”

A few minutes pass before I recognize the road we were currently driving on, “You really are taking me home.” I say astonishment creeping into my voice.

He looks over at me, equally as surprised by my comment as I was by his action. “Did you think I was going to take you to my house and ravish you?” His voice is teasing but his question is serious.

“No.”

But I wish you would.

“Good.” He looks back to the road and pulls into my driveway, shrieking as I reach for the handle. I jump and look at him. “What?!” I yelp, pulling back from the handle as if it had burned me.

He doesn’t answer; instead leaps out the door to race around the car and fling my door open for me. “Alex, I can open doors, you know.” I tell him, stepping out into the cool air. I shiver and wrap my arms tighter around my body. When the heck had it gotten so freaking cold?

“I know.” He says, falling into step as we make our way up the walk to my apartment. I put the key in and unlock it, debating on whether I should ask him to come in or not.

Alex swoops down and gives me a quick hug, pulling away before I can hug him back and making my mind up for me. “Go inside before I do take you back to my house.” He warns me with a grin. I smile back, “Bye, Alex, thank you.” I tell him.

“You’re welcome. See ya, Hails.” Then he disappears into the dark night, his shoes hitting the pavement the only sound I can hear.

I let the door shut behind me and smile weakly to myself as I recall everything that had happened in the last couple of hours; dancing with Alex, screaming out lyrics I didn’t even know, heat, friction, and what about him threatening to take me back to his place? I barely know this kid and I am already far more interested in him then I should be.
