Break Your Little Heart

012

Chloe’s three weeks with GK flew by faster than she wanted them to. She hadn’t heard from Jack again and when Cassadee had returned for good from tour Chloe avoided her at all costs. Zack had been calling Chloe non-stop since he had gotten back to Baltimore a week ago. Chloe knew he wished she would fly out earlier, but every time he tried to broach the subject Chloe reminded him she had to work. She was down to her last day though. She was off to Baltimore in two days whether or not she wanted to be.

Chloe stepped into one of the office doors in the back of the GK studio. She had just finished her final shoot and was on her way to collect her paycheck from Mark Capicotto, the owner of GK. She knocked lightly on his door, slipping in when he called out that it was open.

“Well hello, Chloe.” He said happily, looking up from his computer screen.

“Hey, Mark.” Chloe flashed a smile. Mark had managed to win her over in the past three weeks, despite her initial anger at his involvement in Oli’s scheme to ship her out here. “I’m just here to get my last check.”

“You’re leaving me?”

“You knew you didn’t get to keep me forever.” Chloe giggled.

“I know.” Mark pouted. “I was just hoping maybe you’d decide to leave that British boy of yours and stay with me.” Chloe rolled her eyes.

“Oh hush. I’ll come back and visit if you’re a good boy. And if you keep your mouth shut about Oli.”

“Fine, fine.” Mark waved her off, shuffling through the papers on his desk and pulling out an envelope. “Here. Chloe snatched it up. “Take this too.” He handed her a box filled with clothes which Chloe tucked under her arm with a smile.

“Thanks, Mark. Really.” Chloe leaned over the desk to place a kiss on his cheek.

“I’ll miss you, Chloe. Come back soon, okay?”

“Promise.”

Chloe turned and left the office. She gave a wave to some of the people she saw as she left the building, but didn’t stop to give them a proper goodbye. She slipped her sunglasses down from her head to cover her eyes as she pushed open the main door and stepped out into the California sun. A horn honked and Chloe looked over to see Holiday leaning out of her open window and waving frantically at Chloe.

“Hey, Hols.” Chloe grinned as she let herself into the passenger side door.

“What?! You got free swag! No faiiiiiir!”

“Don’t even act like you don’t get free stuff too. That shirt is from your Topshop shoot last year and those shorts are from your J Crew one a few months ago.” Holiday grumbled something under her breath and Chloe let out a laugh. Holiday glared at her. “Oh come on, what’s got you so grumpy today anyway?”

“What’s got you so happy?” Holiday shot back. Chloe thought for a moment.

“Well I’m in LA and it’s sunny and warm even though it’s November and I just finished my last day with GK –”

“And you leave for Baltimore the day after tomorrow.” Holiday cut in, her tone mournful. Chloe didn’t say anything, her good mood melting away. Holiday looked over and noticed the expression on Chloe’s face. “Shit, I’m sorry, Chloe. I didn’t mean to ruin your mood.”

“It’s okay.” Chloe shrugged.

“No, it’s not. I know you don’t want to go there and I’m just making you feel worse about it.” Chloe didn’t say anything and Holiday bit her lip. With a deep breath Holiday opened her mouth to ask the question that had been plaguing her since Chloe first told she was going to Baltimore. “Chloe, honestly, if you hate it so much, why are you going? I mean, why don’t you just stay here until the end of Oli’s tour?”

“I can’t do that, Hols.” Chloe sighed out heavily. “I promised Oli I would go, and my cousin is going to be home. I haven’t seen him or my aunt and uncle in a while so I kind of owe it to them to go.”

“I’m just going to miss you so much. I feel like I just got you back and now you’re leaving again.” Holiday pouted.

Chloe looked at the girl sitting next to her and her heart wrenched. She threw her arms around Holiday’s thin frame, resting her head against her small shoulder. Holiday pulled up in front of her apartment complex and stopped the car, turning it off and leaning against Chloe as well.

“I know it seems like that, but I promise I’ll come back. For real this time, I swear. And you can come out to Sheffield and work with Drop Dead and see me. It’ll be okay, Holiday.”

Holiday sniffled quietly and Chloe held on tighter. They sat there for another moment before Holiday cleared her throat and sat up, prompting Chloe to release her. She pulled her seatbelt off and looked over at the blonde in the passenger’s seat with a smile that was only a little watery.

“C’mon. We’ve gotta get you all packed up tonight because tomorrow is Chloe day. We’re going to Lulu’s and the beach and wherever else your pretty little heart desires. Okay?”

“Okay.” Chloe nodded, unbuckling herself as well and hopping out of the car.

Normally I would list all of my lovely commenters here but most of your comments got deleted. :( Just know that I still love and appreciate all of you and your feedback. I should have a new chapter posted by the end of the week.
