Please Stay
Chapter 1
My mom sighed; she knew how much I hated my father for leaving us alone. He decided to take my brother and older sister but left me. My mother tried to reason with me that she had to go away for a month and that I had to stay with my father.
“But mom I don’t want to!” I growled
“I know, but you need to. I don’t have a babysitter for you” she reasoned
“I’m fourteen can’t I stay home alone?”
“No, you need to be at least eighteen years old”
I sighed and slumped my shoulders; I knew I wasn’t going to win this one. I nodded in agreement and walked upstairs to pack, I have been keeping in contact with my older sister though. We came pretty close since then, she’s always telling me about how dad always mumbled different things when he got a hangover. She told me that he isn’t an alcoholic or a drunk but he would get stressed out easily.
When I was done packing my mother loaded up the car and then called my father.
“Hey Jake, we will be there maybe by this afternoon”
“Alright, I know Stella will be there and Kyle”
“K bye”
She hung up and sighed, I knew that he was being rude again; I kept in the anger that boiled in me. I got into the passenger side and waited for the four hour trip to start. Once we drove out of my neighborhood I started thinking on how my dad will act when I’m there. If he didn’t hate me then why would he leave me? Stella told me that he didn’t want to take everything good from my mother. I thought otherwise.
Three hours later…
“Well honey we’re almost there, want anything to eat or drink? You haven’t had anything the whole day”
“Sure, just a drink of water and maybe a cracker and bathroom”
She chuckled and nodded; we both got out and walked into the Wawa. That’s when I saw my father and sister, she was bugging him for a smoothie but he refused.
“No you already had two, why more?” he growled
“Because their healthy and I am starving!” she hissed
“We’ll all you do is eat so how are you starving?” he asked, cocking his head to one side.
My mother growled in her throat and stalked towards him, she tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around and a flash of fear rolled across his face. He covered up the fear with stress, the last time I saw him was actually just last month. He looked a lot skinner now, I mean, I thought he couldn’t lose any more weight but he obviously did.
“Jake why are you thinner and Stella why are you so hungry?” my mother asked
“Nothing…just…never mind” he stumbled over his words
“Well because I starved myself for about a week but then I got hungry again so yeah. Dad is to stressed to even eat” she growled
“Oh, well um….you need to eat and relax.” Concern was clear in my mother’s voice
“No, Casey I don’t need any relaxation. I really need to send in this next report to my boos alright?” he hissed
“Hey don’t talk to mom that way!” I growled
He looked at me in surprise, hurt filled his eyes. He looked at me as if I remind him of someone who he lost. I felt bad for being rude to him but he was being rude to my mother. I couldn’t control the anger anymore; he pushed me over the edge.
“Sage don‘t be so rude” my mother whispered
“Sorry dad, didn’t mean to be mean” I mumbled
He didn’t say anything but just shuffled his feet. He nodded and walked away. Stella smiled and gave me a hug.
“Hey I missed you!” she sighed
“Hey, you’re taller”
“Yeah, and you’re…stronger” she said
I chuckled; when my father walked back he looked pale. My mother tried to get him not to drive but since Stella can’t drive and I can’t he had to. My mother tried to tell him that one of my uncles could drive his car home but he was being stubborn.
“Alright fine, but just be careful please?”
“Alright” he sighed, “C’mon Stella” he said softly
Stella gave me another hug and then followed my dad out the store. I felt bad, something was bothering my father that he wasn’t eating enough and wasn’t sleeping enough. You could clearly see the black circles underneath his eyes.
“Hey mom what’s dad’s job?”
“I don’t know, we haven’t been talking much lately. Actually we haven’t talked since he left with your brother and sister” she said
I nodded and then went to the bathroom.
When we finally got to my father’s house I gasped, it was huge. Whatever my father’s job was it must be a big paying one. My mother got out and got my stuff. Stella and my brother, Kyle, met us outside and buried me in a hug. Kyle gave me a death hug while Stella just gave me a soft welcoming hug. When they finally let go I helped my mom with my stuff and walked into the house. Stella showed me my room while Kyle talked to my mom. I got a glimpse of my father while he was in his study, he was sleeping on his laptop. Stella chuckled.
“That happens” she said
“Well, looks like he needs a lot of sleep” I commented
“Yeah but with him being an F.B.I agent he doesn’t get much. There’s so much a crime that he has to investigate that he only sleeps for an hour each day and about three hours a night. He hardly eats and when he does he feels like he’s going to throw up”
“Like people who are anorexic?”
“Kind of, except this has to do with stress and not enough time”
I nodded, understanding at how of a bad state he was in. When we got to my room I gasped. It was huge, the walls were my favorite color, blue. I had my own Apple computer, a flat screen TV, a huge bed, nice wooden doors and a huge closet.
“Dad decided to make it blue, since it’s your favorite color” said Stella
“Did you tell him that?”
“Nope, he already knew.”
I nodded, “Oh.”
I lied my suitcase down on my bed and sat down, my mattress was foam! I sighed and instantly lied down on my bed. The mattress making me drowsy.
“Hey wake up sleeping beauty” Stella giggled
“I’m up” I yawned, “I fell asleep?”
“Yeah, more like dozing. For about a few seconds” she said.
At that moment my father stepped in, “Oh that’s what I heard. Well make yourself….did you fall asleep?” he asked, amusement filling his amber eyes.
“Yeah…Stella woke me up” I said
Let me explain my father to you, he’s tall, has a lot of muscle, black hair with light brown streaks going through it, tan skin, amber eyes, white and straight teeth. He looked a lot like me while Stella looked like my mom.
My mom is tall too, she has blonde hair, bright brown eyes, white skin, and skinny and mostly wears skinny jeans and tank tops. My brother looked like my grandfather from my mom’s side.
Black hair, tallish, white skin, chocolate brown eyes, skinny, he wasn’t shy though. He was very energetic and always played the Xbox. Stella would complain on how the sound blasted through the hallways. My father would sometimes come in and shut it off but would otherwise, put ear phones into his ears to block out the sound. Stella snapped me out of my thoughts when she shoved me.
“But mom I don’t want to!” I growled
“I know, but you need to. I don’t have a babysitter for you” she reasoned
