Chapter 2

I looked up in surprise, “Really?” I looked at her
She smiled and sighed, “Dad, could you please help us….Sage wake up!” she growled
I shook my head and sighed, “Sorry”
I heard a chuckled from across the room and looked at my dad, he was smiling. I smiled back then Stella for some odd reason, screamed. I looked at her confused, there was no bugs, no stranger, my confusion left when I finally realized she was screaming in joy.
“You know him?” she shrieked
“Yes, and would you mind the screaming? I don’t need a migraine” I said
She smirked and then sighed, “He’s so hot, and how do you know him?”
“Facebook”
“As in, you talk to random strangers?”
“Nope, my friend from school knows him. We met up at the beach one day, of course mom was there with my friend’s mother but…we had to chase his dog”
“What kind of dog?”
“German Shepard, his father trained him to be a police dog”
“At least they don’t have huskies there; dad has to deal with one of the huskies at his F.B.I place. Right dad?”
She turned and smiled, my father sighed and nodded. He was studying the floor for some reason, until he bent down and picked up Stella’s earing.
“Where’d you get a diamond like this?” he asked, confusion clear in his voice
“Oh…um…Tyler got it for me…nothing big” she stuttered
Tyler? Does my older sister have a boyfriend she didn’t tell me about? She has talked about meeting him at her new job, she warned me not to mention the job here though. I didn’t know what the job was but she said that dad would get angry at her for it. Stella said that the job was risky and with dad being what he is, she would become abandoned and probably live with my mom and I. From the looks of it my father wasn’t a bad guy; he was just stressed, hungry, tired and drank alcohol.
“Oh, who’s this Tyler? I never heard of him, did you meet him on Facebook?” he asked, eyeing Stella
“No, he’s…in my school, dad c’mon I’m fifteen. I’m allowed to have a guy friend without my father complaining about it” she growled
“Complaining? Who says I’m complaining? I was just asking, no need to get defensive….that is unless…he’s your boyfriend” he smirked and then walked away.
Stella sighed, “He always catches on, it’s like…I can’t even do anything without Mr. F.B.I boy making sure it’s nothing that can harm his little girl. I’m not his little girl anymore, plus…he’s got you” she said as she turned around to look at me
I cocked my head to one side, “Me? Why would he want me? I hardly ever talk to him and plus, with how I acted in the Wawa…he probably won’t be a happy camper with me around”
“Your just like him, ya know that? Except you’re not a father who’s over protective” she growled
“He’s only worried about you; if you had a daughter and you were him would you let her run around with guys?” I asked, eyeing her down like my father did
Come to think of it, I’m like a twin of my father’s. I eye people down like him, I fight others who are harmful like him, and I don’t let anyone hurt my mom…like he does with Stella. Now I knew why he took Stella, she reminded him of my mother. Stella wouldn’t cause a fight; she wouldn’t back talk if someone would be rude to her. She would keep her mouth shut and say nothing at all, like my mom; she can make some people feel uncomfortable. She acts like a cop like my mother does, but my mom is a detective, so I guess Stella got her brains in that one.
“I know, I love my father…but…he just needs to give me some room here” she sighed
“Stella, you probably remind him of mom. Haven’t you ever thought about that?” I asked
Suddenly her eyes brightened with proudness and happiness, “That means dad may still love mom!” she gasped
She hugged me tightly and then went to unpacking, I was confused by her sudden mood change but I did understand it. Stella and I have been talking about how to get mom and dad back together, but I had a feeling it had something to do with their jobs. A detective and F.B.I agent? Usually, criminals who hate them go after their children, and us being together causes a higher chance of the kids getting in the mess of things. I didn’t tell Stella though, she has the brains to understand it though, but she wouldn’t give it much thought either way.

Father’s POV
I stood out in the hallway and listened to their conversation, I gave Stella a lot of room and privacy. I hardly asked her about guys, but Sage…I didn’t want to give her up. She’s a lot like me, which is why I left her with her mother and took Stella. Yes, Stella is a trouble maker at times but most of the time she’s just like her mother. Using her head and not her instincts, unlike Sage and I. We both go by instinct, we both protect those we love and we both love to pick a fight every once in a while.
Sage’s mother, Casey, has emailed me about how Sage was doing. I would tell her how Kyle and Stella were doing, she would always tell me about how Sage somehow came home with a few scratches but the people whom she beat the crap out of…would end up in the hospital. The cops would only laugh and say Sage was their girl. Since Casey’s brother was the sheriff there Sage was loved by all the police. Sage would beat up the bad guys though, but whenever one of them picks on Casey? Sage would be there in a second and force them to back off. I smiled each time I heard about that part, Sage was like my twin. We never talked it out first, nor did we ever hold our tongue. We both spoke what was on our mind, both kept the darkest secrets and we both protected the ones who are close to us.
I yawned as I suddenly returned to the real world; I walked into my room and lied down. Since I handed in the report and finished all my other work, I decided to rest for a bit. That was until I got a phone call.
“Hello?” I asked into the phone, expecting it to be my boss or brothers to tell me we have another case to solve, but it was a lot worse.
“Hello agent Burn, I got to admit your ex-wife is such a beauty. Why would you give her up?” asked a cold voice from the other end
My heart quickened as the anger inside boiled into my blood and brain and caused me to clench my jaw in order to hold it in. “Who is this?” I growled
“Oh, you don’t remember me? You killed my brother, remember Sean Lex? Yeah, you killed him because he pointed a gun at you” the voice hissed
Suddenly I gasped, “Kevin Lex, leave my wife alone or I swear-
“You swear what Burn?”
“I swear I will kill you”
“Tsk tsk, now you’re not a real F.B.I agent, you used to be such a great con-man that was until Mrs. Casey here arrested you, your wife has such the brains. Such a shame it will die with her. Your just an ex-con man, conning the F.B.I”
“What? A con? I was never a con man! I am an F.B.I agent and I will hunt you down and free my wife!”
“Right, but here’s the thing. You’re a killer Jake, you’re a heartless monster and your daughter…Sage is that her name? Yes, I believe it is, will be gone before you know it. I will kill her, she was the one who put me in the hospital for a week, caused me to not be able to use my right arm. Well, she will defiantly be dead but maybe not your wife. Good bye Jake Burns, enjoy your next twenty four hours, searching for your wife…oh and if I were you, I would think about making a deal with me. Your daughter for your wife, now this is such a hard decision for you I know. But your daughter is a criminal, she’s just someone who loves the feeling of revenge and strength, she loves being in power well this time she won’t be. Good luck”
I stood there in shock; I can’t trade in my daughter for my wife. I had to somehow free both.
