"You have to choose someone!"

"Come on! Really? How do I choose to kill either Angelina Jolie, Megan Fox, or Natalie Portman?" Steven demanded. "I don't like this game anymore," he pouted as he sat back in the booth.

Maci giggled and took a sip of her orange juice. "Come on, it's not that bad. Which one would you rather marry and which one would you rather have sex with?" she asked.

He groaned dramatically. "Fine. Fuck Megan Fox, marry Angelina Jolie, and kill Natalie Portman," he decided. "No, wait... Fuck Megan Fox, marry Natalie Portman, and kill Angelina Jolie."

Maci giggled at his internal battle over the stupid game. They'd been playing it since they'd ordered their breakfasts and so far he'd made a big deal about every question. "Okay, you're turn. Me, Sidney Crosby, and Jonathan Toews," he returned daringly.

She smirked. "I like my men to be the best. Marry Sidney Crosby, fuck Jonathan Toews, and kill you," she teased.

His jaw dropped as he stared at her. Maci giggled madly and stuck a piece of fruit in his open mouth. Steven ate it, not changing his expression. "You want to kill me?" he asked.

She shrugged one shoulder and began cutting up her pancake again. "Like I said, I like my men to be number one. Sidney Crosby is obviously number one in the league-"

"He hasn't played a solid month in almost a year and a half!" he exclaimed.

Maci rolled her eyes. "Who is the best hockey player in the world?" she challenged. He shut his mouth at that. "Exactly. And plus, they are both captains, which puts them a step above you," she finished with a teasing smile.

He grumbled as he went back to picking at his own pancakes. Maci tapped his foot under the table. His own foot pushed hers back. Maci laughed at his sour face. "You're a big baby," she pointed out.

Steven glared at her. "Aw, is big Steven upset that baby Steven had to choose him to die?" she asked in a baby voice as she reached over to poke at his cheek.

His face suddenly turned up to her. "Would you honestly ever trade up?" he asked.

Her eyes went wide when she realized just how serious he was. "No, of course not," she said.

He nodded his head and went back to eating, still obviously in a sour mood. Maci sighed and looked down at her pancakes, not wanting to eat anymore. "Want my meat?" she asked as she looked at the bacon and sausage that came with her meal.

Steven smirked and chuckled softly. "I would love your meat," he told her.

Maci blushed as she realized how he'd taken her question. "Awesome," she mumbled and passed the meat over to his plate. Steven laughed a little louder at that.

"You always go about giving your meat to anyone who will take it?" he asked her.

Maci blushed further. "Nope. You're the only one who gets my meat," she joked softly.

"Aw, that's so sweet for you to save it all for me," he said.

Maci couldn't help but laughing loudly at that. Oh, the irony of that comment. "I just feel bad because I don't think you'd be getting some anywhere else," she returned.

His jaw dropped before he choked out a laugh. "I can get my meat from several places, thank you very much," he told her.

She smirked. "I knew that team was full of men all gay for each other," she whispered. Her eyes flickered up to his.

Steven was almost dying. "Okay, I'm done. I can't add to this any longer," he decided as he shook his head, his laughter dying down.

Maci smiled to herself. Her eyes drifted over his booth to the front door. Her face paled immediately. She ducked her head and quickly began eating.

Steven watched her in confusion. She was acting like her mother had just scolded her and told her to eat her breakfast. He turned around in his seat to look at the front door. He turned back around after spotting the couple at the front of the restaurant. He chewed his lip as he tried to figure out what to say to help her a little.

Maci finished up her pancakes and downed her orange juice. She looked at her plate, debating what to do so she could escape. But it was too late.

"Maci? Look who it is!" Kyle exclaimed as he dragged his new girlfriend up to the table. They were both grinning brightly.

Maci shifted in her seat. "Hey," she mumbled softly.

Steven watched Kyle smirk in satisfaction. The bastard was getting an ego boost off of making her feel low. His fists clenched under the table as he tried not to show how furious he felt.

"How have you been?" Kyle asked his ex girlfriend while he wrapped his arm around his new one. The new girl smiled triumphantly.

Maci struggled over her words. "I'm... I'm good..." she mumbled.

She couldn't help but feel so inferior to this new girl. She had gorgeous, curly blonde hair and bright blue eyes. She looked like a model, too. "That's good to hear," he commented.

Maci nodded stupidly and looked back at him. "How about you?" she mumbled.

"I've been amazing! Kayla is going to be taking me to Paris with her next week when she goes for a big modeling event," he told her smugly.

Maci wilted even further on the inside. Paris? She had wanted to visit there since the first day Stephanie had called her about it. She wanted to go see her best friend, too. "Wow... That's great," she whispered out as she felt her throat getting tight.

"You go anywhere for your spring break?" Kyle asked with a smug smirk.

Maci rubbed her hands together. "I just stayed here... I went to the mall a few times with Corey," she answered.

He gave her a fake sympathetic smile. "Aw, too bad..."

She shrugged her small shoulders. "I'll be graduating this year anyways," she mumbled. She felt stupid. She was studying like a nerd while this new girl, Kayla, was taking him across the world.

"Hey, Maci," Steven began. Maci looked over at him, begging for some safety from her ex.

Kyle looked over at him, already glaring. Steven gave him a challenging look as he continued. "Are you ready to head out? I can go pay the check right now," he offered.

Maci looked down at his plate. He wasn't done eating. She wanted to just disappear. "You can finish. I'll go pay," she offered.

He shook his head. "I'm done. I can pay," he told her.

Kyle glanced between the two. "Why don't you let him pay, Maci. It's only polite to let the guy pay for your date," he told her in a snide voice. "We can all finish our conversation then, too."

Steven pushed himself out of the booth. He looked down at Kyle. Kayla was gawking at him, but he ignored her. "We might as well go up there together, then we can leave," he pointed out.

Maci wanted to crawl under the table. Kyle smiled up at the hockey player. "I just want to catch up with her," he offered.

Steven looked to Maci. He didn't want to do anything unless she was okay with it. "It's fine. I'll meet you," she assured him with a sad smile.

He hesitated, not really wanting to leave her. Maci nodded her head, urging him to just leave it be. Steven sighed and walked to the register, his blood boiling. He wanted to badly to hit Kyle for acting that way towards his... He didn't know what Maci was to him technically.

Maci offered a pained smile as Kyle and Kayla slid in across from her. "So, how has Steven's team been doing?" Kyle asked with a smirk.

Maci looked down at her empty plate. "Good. He's almost to fifty goals soon," she mumbled.

"What? Is he a professional athlete or something?" Kayla asked.

Maci nodded her head. "Hockey. He plays for the local team," she answered.

Kayla's eyes lit up. "How much do those guys make? I've always been curious," she asked as she leaned over the table.

Maci shrugged her shoulders. She honestly had no idea what Steven was pulling in each year. "I don't know. It's all based on their contracts and if they do endorsements," she offered.

Kyle stepped forth with his own. "His contract is about five and a half million a year until he's, what, 26?"

Maci shrugged. "And then endorsements," she mumbled.

"So probably like six or more a year?" Kayla asked with a wide grin. "That's so much more than I make!"

Maci shrugged awkwardly while Kyle frowned. "Does he buy you a lot of things?" Kayla continued.

Maci squirmed in her seat. "No. He just buys dinner when we go out together. Not like a date, I mean. Like when we just hang out and happen to be eating..." she quickly rushed out.

Kyle smirked and leaned over to press a hard kiss on Kayla's mouth. "I like taking her shopping," he told Maci smugly.

Kayla grinned widely. "It's so fun! He buys me anything I want!"

Maci couldn't care less about that. She didn't care if anyone bought her clothes or jewelry. Suddenly she felt her goals were stupid. She just wanted to graduate and then to get her masters. She didn't know where she'd be going afterwards or doing what. She felt like her life was so boxed in.

Kyle grinned proudly at his trophy girlfriend. "Guess you'll have to start putting moves on Steven. Tie him down as your boyfriend and maybe then he'll buy you some decent name brand clothes," Kyle stated.

Maco frowned. "I don't care if he buys me things. I'd rather he didn't so I wouldn't feel bad about not being able to pay him back. And if he were my boyfriend, I'd only ask that he treats me right and stays true to me," she stated. She huffed and pushed herself out of the booth. "It's cool you both have this sexy, expensive relationship going, but I'd rather have one of substance. I'd rather be in it for purely being happy together."

Just as she was about to turn around, Steven put his hand on her waist. She looked up, only to be surprised by his lips meeting hers. When he pulled back, she stared up at him wide-eyed.

"We'll see you two later. We were going to go to the beach and hang out," he told them, not caring if that was where they were truly going or not.

Kyle nodded stupidly before Steven walked with Maci out of the restaurant. He couldn't wipe the grin off his face. He'd heard what she said to Kyle. She'd stood up and made him feel stupid instead of continuing to take his bullshit.

They slid into his car and he started it up. He looked over at her while she stared quietly out the window. He gently turned her face towards his and pressed a kiss to her lips. She gave him a small smile. "Sorry that you didn't finish your breakfast," she mumbled as his fingers tucked a stray piece of hair behind her ear.

"It's fine. It was worth it to hear you say that to them," he told her truthfully.

She grinned back at him. "It felt good to say it," she said honestly.

"It should. He shouldn't bring you down like that," he told her. "I was two seconds away from decking him when you said that." He pulled the car out of the parking lot and steered it out onto the road.

"What? Why?" she demanded in shock.

Steven smiled, even though he was facing straight ahead. "Because he was being an ass to you. You, along with every other girl, doesn't deserve to have anyone say those kinds of things to them or make them feel like trash."

Maci smiled to herself as she leaned further back into her seat. She slipped her hand into his and laced their fingers together. "Maybe I wouldn't kill you..." she whispered.
