Light On The Horizon

Chapter III

12/16/10

I have both a wonderful and annoying best friend. First thing he did this morning was wake me up with breakfast in bed. When I questioned his motives with it he just said 'can't I give my beautiful friend breakfast in bed' and left it at that. He told me to dress up nicely later on that night at around four and took me out to the 'Olive Garden' paying for the whole meal himself. I joked with him during dessert, when I was eating my slice of chocolate cake, that I was going to get fat if he kept treating me to nights like this. He made the comment 'You mean more so then what you are' and smiled while he did it. I wanted to slap that smile right off his face in the middle of the restaurant but he just had to add in afterwards that no matter what he said I could never stay mad at him for long.

Damn him for always being right but I at least got my revenge later on that night.

"Hey, look who's back." I glanced up from my notebook, which was filled with entry's of my past life, to see Mason standing in the door way of the living room with a Border Collie, who was straining on the end of his leach, jumping up and down at the sight of me. "Look Mac, it's Jen. Jen's home, do you want to see her, hum Mac, what do you think do you want to see her." I couldn't help but smile as he tried to hold 'Mac' back as he unhooked the leach from the loop on the collar.

I couldn't help but smile as I let out a squeal as Mac attacked my face with his sloppy dog spit covered tongue, "Mac, how you been boy." I let out a giggle as Mac pulled away from me for a second, cocked his head to the side before attacking my face yet again.

"Okay Mac, I think that's enough. I know you're excited to see as her as much as I was." I had to let out yet another laugh as Mason tried with all his might to pull Mac away from laying on my chest but gave up after a few seconds when he didn't budge. "Fine, be that way you traitor." He pouted like a little kid, crossing his arms over his chest and hunching over slightly before perking up and reaching over to the coffee table, but more importantly over towards where my notebook was situated, "What is this?"

"No." I complained and feverishly tried to push Mac off me but failed and just gave up as Mason cracked open my notebook, reading silently one of the many entry's that book held before letting out a quick bark of a laugh.

"Ha, I remember that night. Man, you were so mad at me and literally locked me out of the house that night and I had to go crash at Lappy's that night. Needless to say, he wasn't exactly happy when I came knocking at one in the morning after driving an hour to get to Abbotsford so we got to the restaurant around five, five thirty maybe, then we just pissed around in the city for a few more hours till we left for Vancouver around eleven thirty. I thought you had forgotten my comment at supper but turns out you hadn't as you grabbed the keys out of my hands, slammed and locked the door behind you before calling out to me from behind the door that I needed to go find a friend that would let me crash at their place for the night. I woke up the next morning to Max pouring water on me and kicking me out to go 'kiss and make up' with you."

I gave him a small smile, absentmindedly scratching Mac behind his ears as Mason got a far away look in his eyes as he remembered that night in a fair bit of detail, something I was jealous of him for.

Curling up on the end of the couch, so I was using the arm rest and one of my hands as a pillow so I could continue to scratch Mac behind his ears as he pushed me back into the couch seeing as I had forced him to move off my lap when I tried to get comfy. "Mason, can you tell me a little about the accident?"

My question clearly was unexpected by him as he slowly closed my notebook, set it back down on the coffee table in front of us, threw his hands over the back of the couch and titled his head up towards the ceiling as he contemplated how to answer me. He ran one of his hands over his nose and mouth before dropping it down on to one of my sock clad feet and giving it a slight squeeze, "Are you sure you want me to tell you? You know Doc Robinson said it was better if you learned on your own but I can tell you if you really want me too."

I nodded, stretching my legs out so my feet just hit the cushion about three inches on the other side of Mason's lap.

"Okay, I'll tell you what I know about it anyway."I perked up, thankful to who ever it was that was looking down at me that I was going to learn a little of my past. "Tomorrow."My hopes were stolen from my grasp. "That is, anyway, if you do two things for me."

I gave him a look that should have been along the lines of 'what two things?' without having to verbalize it.

"One," he held up his index finger, "you come to my game tomorrow against the Oilers and wear my jersey."

"Okay sure, why not."I shrugged, closing my eyes as I tried to relax, maybe try to catch a mid afternoon nap while I was at it.

"And two, maybe after the game, you would be willing to meet my team mates. Maybe it would help jog your memory."

I tensed up slightly, I hadn't planned on meeting his team mates-again technically if you looked at it-until most of my memory came back, or if we had tried everything else and this was our last ditch effort.

Swallowing the extra bit of saliva that had built up in my mouth I answered, "Okay, deal."

I know it's really short and I'm sorry for that. I'm working on the next chapter right now and it is a fair bit longer.

Thank you too:
