Lucky Now.

Sweet illusions.

The day of the show arrived too quickly for Garrett's liking. He didn't know how to handle the range of his emotions as he paced his room. Was she nervous? Was she thinking of him at all? Was he finally just losing his mind?

"What is going on with you?" He heard and came to a stop to see his mom standing in the doorway.

"Show tonight remember?"

"Mhm. Sure. Couldn't have anything to do with a girl named Leah, huh?" She asked with a smirk and he crossed his arms, "N-no..." he fumbled out knowing he wasn't convincing anyone including his mom.

She chuckled, "Right, well she's at her grandparents house."

"Yeah? Well she's planning to um, ride with me to the show." Garrett said blushing instantly.

She nodded a grin still on her lips, "I see."

"Mom. We are just friends."

"I didn't suggest anything..."

"Plus, she wouldn't like me." He mumbled grabbing up his shoes.

"Why not?"

He stifled a laugh, "Cause mom..."

"Well she must like you in some way if she is riding with you."

He rolled his eyes not wanting to continue with this conversation.

"Yeah, she likes me as a friend. Well, we really aren't even that, but it's whatever. Can we stop talking about it?" He grumbled as he finished tying his shoes. He glanced at his phone to see that he had thirty minutes until she was over here. Thirty minutes now seemed like a lifetime to him.

"Sure, sure." She responded before leaving him alone. He let out a sigh and looked out the window. The sun was now almost completely gone, but he could make out her car across the street. He took a deep breath. He had to calm down or he was going to make a fool of himself when she was here. He tugged at his hair as his anxiety took over. They had nothing in common. What would they talk about for thirty minutes? He wasn't an interesting guy like say, John. He couldn't hold a conversation with just anyone.

In the middle of his debate the doorbell rang and he shot up from the bed.

She was here.

His heart was now pounding so hard he questioned a heart attack.

"Garrett!" His mom called and he grabbed his bass that was in the case and his phone as he forced himself to the living room. His breath caught in his throat at the sight of her, "Hi."

She smiled sensing the boys nerves. She just assumed it was from the fact that he was playing tonight.

"Hey." She spoke softly and he ran his hand over his neck, "Ready?"

She nodded and said goodbye to his mom before they walked out to his car. He placed his instrument in the backseat carefully as she get in. As he fixed whatever, she took the inititive to look through the cd case she had picked up from the seat before she sat down.

Once he was safely in the driver seat he watched her cautiously, wondering what was going through her head.

"You can um, put a cd in if you'd like, there is nothing in." He fumbled out and she smiled, "Ok."

He simply nodded as he forced himself to swallow and started the car. She quickly slid a cd in and once the music hit his ears his eyes quickly moved to her, "Ryan Adams?"

"Yes. He's amazing and if you have his cd clearly you think so as well."

"Well, yeah. He's my favorite singer." He responded honestly.

"Mine too."

A grin hit his lips and his forced his eyes back to the road. Was it possible to fall more in love with her?

She couldn't help but wonder what else he liked, but she didn't bother to ask, he was clearly nervous already she didn't want to fluster him which seemed to be easy to do. She chuckled to herself and looked out the window as they sat in silence taking in the music. She didn't feel uncomfortable with the boy probably because she had known him for years, but she was curious as to who he now was. They hadn't talked much in high school besides the occasional hello's or run in's somewhere.

Garrett on the other hand hated the silence. It made everything much worse for him and he just wished she'd talk about anything at all.

"I'm excited." She finally spoke and he chuckled, "Good. Should be fun." He responded softly as he grasped the steering wheel.

"Are you always this nervous?" She asked and he shot his eyes at her, "huh?"

"You're nervous about something."

"Oh. Um..." he fumbled out and she chuckled, "This isn't your first show is it?"

He shook his head no unsure what to say now. She just stared at him as he bit his bottom lip. She just wanted to figure him out.

"Well?"

"Well, what?" He asked and she laughed, "Why are you nervous?"

"Because..." He mumbled no wanting to tell her the reason, but lying wasn't his strong point.

She raised an eyebrow and he glanced over at her, "Because you're here." He grumbled out before quickly focusing back on the road as his heart raced.

"Because I'm here?"

"Yeah. I'm nerdy, Leah. I don't hangout with girls often." He said realizing how pathetic that made him.

"Why not?" She asked clearly intriqued. She found nothing wrong with him. In fact, she found him oddly attractive. Maybe it was his shyness or his blue eyes, she wasn't sure yet.

"Is that a serious question?"

"Yeah. It is."

"I'm a nerd..." he said slower and she rolled her eyes, "How?! Because you're in a band and like Ryan Adams?"

"No because I'm quiet, make straight A's, haven't had a girlfriend since 10th grade and I own every zombie movie you can imagine!" He said throwing his hands up after he parked. She couldn't help but chuckle at how flustered he got.

"None of which is bad."

His blue eyes landed on hers. "Can you keep a secret?" She asked with a smirk.

He gulped as he nodded trying not to freak from the closeness.

"I own about every x-men comic book known to man." She whispered.

"Seriously?" He asked narrowing his eyes at her.

"Yep." She responded with a grin as she got out of the car. Oh my god. She was perfect. He smiled before forcing himself from the car and grabbing his gear.

"Need help?" She asked and he shook his head no, "Wait! Will you grab my phone?" He asked noticing it was still in the car.

"Sure." He watched her from the sidewalk and she closed the door with his phone in her hand.

She followed behind him being a bit nosey and looking at his iphone. The background was a picture of music notes and she began looking through his pictures.

"What are you doing?" He asked turning to look at her.

"Looking at your pictures."

"Oh..."

She chuckled as they reached the door to the place and she held it open so he could get all his stuff in.

"Finally!" John shout and Garrett shot him a look as he began setting up his bass.

"Hey you." John spoke to Leah causing her to laugh, "Hey."

"Hey Ken." She said patting his head as she took a seat on the edge of the stage while they finished. She began to finish looking at the pictures on Garrett's phone and she instantly began to chuckle as she landed on a picture of Pat.

"Garrett! Why does she have your phone?!" Pat whined causing her to laugh even more.

Garrett chuckled, "Relax. She already knows your crazy."

Pat shot him and look and she laughed, "I do not. I think Pat is cool."

Pat perked up at that and she looked back at Garrett's phone.

"Why have you never hung out with us?" The boy asked and Garrett waited for a response from the beautiful girl.

"Well, see I'm not going to just invite myself anywhere. Now, if you would have asked before hand I would have."

"I don't believe that."

"I do." John said chuckling,"She'll hang out with anyone."

"Yep as long as you aren't crazy as in mental." She said looking back at his phone as it blinked signaling a text that popped up instantly.

'Hi. :)'

She laughed reading that it was from Pat.

'I like you.'

She texted back and he laughed from his drum set.

"Awe lets be friends!" Pat shouted.

She laughed and went through Garrett's contacts trying to find her name so she could send Pat her number. Yeah, she didn't know her own, but come on, she didn't call herself!

She sighed, "Garrett! Do you not have my number?"

His cheeks instantly turned red.

"Uh, um, yeah, why do you need it?" He asked debating on just tackling her to get his phone otherwise he was going to be extremely embarrassed if she found it.

"To send to Pat! I don't know my number."

"Did you text him? Check that." Jared advised and Garrett fumbled to his feet, "What? No." He said now panicked.

"Why?" She asked with a smirk as she got to her feet quickly.

"I um, I..." he studdered and Kennedy was now laughing so hard he had to lean against the wall.

His eyes wouldn't leave Leah's as she walked backwards and he tried to inch closer.

"I mean, I can find it for you."

"You are so lying."

"Am not. I have it."

"Check under bitch." Pat spoke and Leah shot Garrett a look.

"Seriously?" He asked with a raised eyebrow and she laughed, "Maybe I should check...."

"Yep. No bitch." She said causing the guys to snicker and Garrett felt close to passing out.

"Check, under sexy!" John threw out and Garrett rolled his eyes as he crossed his arms.

"Nope." She said laughing and it clearly was Kennedy's turn, "Hot?"

"No." Garrett groaned closing the space between them caiusing her to back into the wall. He instantly regretted the decision because it put him closer to her than ever and he instantly froze.

"Can, I have my phone?" He managed to ask as he held out his hand.

"Nope."

He narrowed his eyes at her and she began to look through his contacts knowing he wouldn't dare grab it from her.

"Annoying dude. Nope not me." She stated and he groaned, "Please..." He begged knowing how embarrassed he was going to be once she found what she was under.

He watched her nervously as he stood in front of her.
After a few seconds her eyes met his and he instantly blushed knowing she had found her number.

"Well that's a lie." She said and he frowned, "What?"

"The name." She said with a grin as she sent Pat the number.

"It is not." He mumbled and she handed him his phone back before kissing his cheek, "You're sweet Gar." She whispered leaving him unable to move as she went back to where she was sitting not knowing that his cheek was tingling from her lips and he was having trouble breathing.

"Dude." Pat said elbowing him and Garrett looked over.

"Relax."

"I'm dying..."

He laughed, "No you're not. What did you have her under in your phone?"

"I don't wanna talk about it." He grumbled.

"What? Girl I'd like to fuck?" Pat asked and Garrett's eyes widened, "What? No."

"Then what?!" Pat asked throwing his hands up dramatically.

"It was under, pretty girl." He mumbled and Pat couldn't help but laugh, "Well, she is so..."

"I'm forever mortified." He grumbled leaning against the wall.

"She didn't seem phased by it."

Garrett looked over at the girl who was swinging her legs off the stage and looking at her phone. Well if she didn't think he was a creep before she did now.

In a way she was flattered by Garrett calling her pretty. She was use to being called hot and sexy, but pretty was different. She also found Garrett's awkwardness rather refreshing and she liked being around him. The way he blushed and fumbled with his words around her. He was beyond cute. She smiled as she hit save after changing his name in her phone.

"I'm sorry. I, uh, shouldn't have freaked like that." Garrett mumbled sitting several feet from her. She smiled up at him and slid her phone over.

He gave her a questionable look before grabbing up her phone. His cheeks turned red instantly at the words above his number. Cute awkward boy. Such simple words and yet it made him happy.

He chuckled and gently sat her phone beside her, "Awkward. Yeah..."

She smiled, "I like it."

He nodded and fiddled with his fingers, "So, um the doors open in like 10 minutes so um, take that table to the left." He said softly not bothering to look at her. He didnt know if he could.

"Ok. Good luck." She said pressing her lips to his cheek once more before hopping off the small stage and going to the table Garrett suggested. She watched the boy mess with his hair before moving to his bass. She couldn't help but smile as she watched him. Maybe it was too soon, but she possibly had a small crush on the mystery boy...
