Lucky Now.

Don't fail me now.

The next morning he got up and dressed better then usual. He threw on his blazer over his t-shirt and threw glasses on because he knew she liked them. He had talked himself up all last night and with Pat backing him up he was definitely going to get her. He drove to school and parked, hopping out only to meet John getting out of his truck.

"Looking spiffy. Going to make a move?"

"I'm going to try something." He grumbled and John chuckled, "Oh man. I'm so glad I came to school today!"

Garrett rolled his eyes as they entered the building and he instantly saw Leah at her locker.

"Later loverboy." John stated and he patted Garrett's shoulder.

He reached Leah's locker with a grin and she looked over at him, "Hey cute, awkward boy. You're looking well, rather cute today."

He chuckled and leaned against the locker trying to keep his nerves down. Think like John is all he repeated to himself.

"I would say you look rather pretty today, but you always do so..." he said and a blush hit her cheeks which caused him to smile instantly. Well, maybe he wasn't too bad at this after all. She closed her locker and looked up at him.

"I'll walk you to class." He whispered and she nodded holding her books to her chest. It was weird for Garrett to act this way, but she wasn't complaining.

"So we're going to watch some movies at John's tonight. Wanna come?" He asked and she nodded, "Sure."

"Ok, well I'll come pick you up on my way."

"Um, ok. Thanks."

He nodded as they reached the door of her class.

"See you next block." He said kissing her cheek gently and she managed to nod as he walked away. For once she was the speechless one. He walked to first block with a smile and confidence he didn't know he had.

"Well, how did it go?" Pat asked and he smiled, "Good. She's coming tonight. I think I'm going to ask her to prom."

"I thought we weren't going?"

"We weren't because we didn't have girls to ask, but I wouldn't mind going with her."

"Well, ok. If you wanna ask go for it."

Garrett smiled an opened his book. This was going to go as planned. He'd make sure of it.

"Um, are you like dating him?" Anna asked as Leah took her seat still a bit dazed from what just happened.

"Who?"

"That Garrett boy."

"No. We're just friends." She responded opening her notebook.

"Why?"

"Why? Because he's cool." She said with a grin.

"Um...right...ok."

Leah rolled her eyes trying to focus on the lesson. She was already ready for this day to be over. Once her last class was over she sighed in relief and waited on Garrett and John at the door.

"What's wrong?" Garrett asked picking up on the way she had been acting all day. She had been too quiet for it to seem normal.

"Nothing." She responded forcing a smile as they reached her locker. John yelled that he would see them soon before chasing after some girl. Garrett's eyes never left Leah, so he didn't care.

"You're lying." He said honestly as she threw her books in her locker. He could tell because her eyes weren't as bright as usual and her smile wasn't on her face like most of the time. She sighed as she looked at him.

"Nothing. I just hate girls here." She said closing her locker and his eyebrows narrowed together, "Was someone mean to you?"

"No, they're just so small minded." She said and he reached out grabbing her hand, "Ah I see, so they said something about you hanging out with us?"

"I don't care." She mumbled and she started walking away her hand still attached to his. He didn't dare ask anything else just walked with her to her car.

"I'll um, pick you up at say 6:30 is that ok? I mean, if you still want to go." He said his awkwardness resurfacing.

"Yeah of course." She said with a grin and he nodded as she leaned against the drivers door and held on to his hand. He didn't care though. He didn't care if anyone saw either. He liked holding her hand.

She looked down at their feet and he stepped to her, gently placing his arms around her waist although his heart was about to explode.

"Hey, if you just wanna go back to how things were just let me know." He whispered as she pressed her face against his chest.

"What? No."

"Ok, just making sure."

She looked up at him and he leaned in kissing her forehead, "I'll um, see you soon ok?"

She nodded unable to speak which is what seemed to happen every time his lips touched her.

He removed himself from her and she climbed in her car. She sighed and leaned her head against the steering wheel.Maybe she just need to be bold and tell him she liked him because she was pretty certain he assumed she liked Pat.

This was a mess.

"Who are you?" Pat asked wide eyed as Garrett reached his car.

Garrett shrugged, "I don't know, but I'm going to get her to fall for me."

That he was sure about.

Garrett was true to his word and arrived at Leah's at 6:30. The two of them shared small talk on the short drive to John's and once inside they settled together on the loveseat. For her to like Pat she sure didn't try to sit by him he thought to himself. She wrapped her arms around one of his as she tucked her legs under her. You think he'd be use to her touching him by now, but he never was prepared. John popped in the movie he had been wanting to see called paranormal something (he was unsure) and John settled back in his chair. The lights were out which made him that much more nervous because of the closeness.

"Dude, no one told me this was scary!" She said into his sleeve since her face was hidden from his arm so she couldn't see the screen.

He chuckled, "It's not that bad."

"Yeah it's a true story too!" Pat chimed in.

"Is not." She mumbled.

"No for once Pat is serious." Kennedy stated and she clung to Garrett even more causing him to laugh. She looked back at the screen and bit her lip as the group stared at the screen in silence. This was the first time Pat had ever been completely silent through a film and Garrett chuckled from the thought.

"Oh my god. Oh my god. Dude run!" Pat shouted and Leah covered her eyes knowing something was going to pop out scarying them all. Although she told herself it was bound to happen, when it did she still jumped and was then completely in Garrett's lap who found this nothing more than amusing.

He held on to her letting her bury her face in his chest.

"This is all your fault. I won't sleep with the light off for days now." She mumbled.

"I didn't know this was what we were going to watch!" He whispered stroking her hair. To say he wasn't loving this would be an understatment. He didn't like her scared, but holding her was a different story.

She lifted up to glance at the television his hand still on her back as she did so.

"Is this almost over?" She asked causing Kennedy to shush her, "Ok Pat shut up!"

She frowned and Garrett chuckled pulling her back to his chest. Once the movie ended John quickly turned on the light, "Well, that was freaky."

"Yep definitely sleeping with Ken tonight." John added and Kennedy rolled his eyes.

Pat looked at Garrett and Leah spoke, "Ohhh no. He is now staying with me. I'm at home alone. I'm not dying."

Garrett's cheeks turned red at the thought of staying with her alone.

"Ha! Garrett protect you? Funny." John said chuckling and Garrett glared at him, "I would."

"Mhm. I'm sure."

"Well it's getting late, we should go, since we have school." Jared said getting up from the couch.

Garrett sighed and Leah got up from his lap.

"I hate all of you." She mumbled and Pat patted her head, "No you don't."

She shook her head yes as she grabbed for Garrett's hand and they walked out into the night.

"I'm scared." She whispered on the drive back to her house. He laughed, "Why? You know they were just messing with you. It isn't real."

"What?!"

He chuckled, "It's fake."

"I hate them." She grumbled crossing her arms.

"Well, are you not scared now that you know?"

"Nope. Still scared."

He laughed, "Oh my gosh. It's fake."

"So?!"

He shook his head with a grin as they parked in her driveway.

"Oh my god. I would sleep with every light on if you weren't here." She said as he held her hand and pulled her into her dark house. She clung to him as he turned the lights on.

"Mhm. Does kind of look like that house." He teased.

"Garrett!" She whined and he chuckled, "Kidding!"

She locked the door behind them then pulled him up the stares. He couldn't help but find her simply adorable although she was scared to death.

She turned the light on in her room and he chuckled at the sight before him.

"What?"

"You are a complete messy, nerdy, pretty girl."

"Am not."

"You have books and comic books, more music then anyone should and well, the clothes everywhere explains the messy part."

"When did that awkward, shy boy go away? Bring him back. He'd never say that."

He chuckled and shrugged.

"Do you want to go by your house for clothes? We can go. I forgot about it."

"Nah it's ok. I'll just go by in the morning."

"Ok, I'm going to go change."

He nodded as she went to the bathroom and he sat on her bed. He now felt like himself; nervous. Where was he sleeping? With her? He gulped as the nerves hit him in full force. Ok Garrett. Get it together. He shook his head as he ran his hand through his hair right as she walked out causing his breathing to stop due to lack of clothing. Some pink pajama shorts and a black tank top. Dear god help him. He instantly began to fidget with his fingers as he watched her pull up her hair.

"Um, so, um, where can I sleep?"

"Awe, you thought you were going to leave me in here alone? How cute."

He chuckled, "So here?"

She nodded and he took off his glasses sitting them on the dresser. He got up slowly and pulled his blazer off and laid it on the chair in front of her desk.

"I have some guy basketball shorts. Do you want them?"

"Oh um, yeah. Sure."

She chuckled as she dug through her dresser. The shy boy was back. She handed him the shorts and he went into the bathroom.

She climbed into her bed a bit nervous at the fact that they would be sharing a bed. She knew that nothing would happen but still...

He came out sitting his things on the chair he had claimed and turned out the light for her before climbing in beside her. Of course his heart was racing as he did so.

"I'm scared." She whispered and he chuckled thankful that her saying that put him once more at ease.

"Nothing to be scared about." He said deciding to take a chance and slide his arm over her. She didn't object and in fact moved closer to him.

"I won't let anything get you." He whispered pressing his lips gently to her head. She snuggled to his chest and he couldn't help but smile to himself. This had to be going somewhere. He just couldn't believe this would turn out to be for nothing.
