A Wag's Life

Chapter 4

24th September 2008:
So we all went back to the pub since it was such a fun night the other night. There was me, Phil Jagielka, Fernando Abbey, Steven, Alex and Sami. Peter couldn’t make it from Portsmouth today to be joining Abbey, so she came alone. And Yolanda and Pepe, just wanted a quiet night in, as well as Nicola and Jamie. So it was just us lot. Sami was eyeing up the latest talent well to be honest he had his eye on Abbey.

Abbey was probably one of the prettiest girls on the table, in the pub even, but not the brightest. And that meant that she was just Sami Hyypia’s type. “I like your top.” He states.
“Thank you.” She replied.
“It shows off your bra very nicely.”
“Aww… Thank you Sami.” She said and looked down at her boobs for a moment. Sami had a mischievous look on his face and Alex had an annoyed look. “Did you know that I’ve been told on many occasions that I’m amazing in bed?”
“Really?” Abbey asked.
“Yeah, I’m kind of seen as a stud.” I let out a choked laughed at that. After last time I didn’t see him picking up many women. Sami was in now way a stud. “Wow, that must be interesting.”
“Would you be interested in finding out whether I’m a stud or not?”
“I would, but I’m with Peter sorry.”
“Oh, don’t you know? Sleeping with me doesn’t make it cheating.”
“Doesn’t it?” Abbey wondered.
“No. Not at all, I’m like a Brother to everyone, and me and Peter we have the same blood we do. He’d completely understand.”
“Oh, ok, when do you want to show off your stud skills?”
“I could show you them right now.”
“Ok.” Abbey smiled and just as they were about to leave together Alex cut in.
“Ok, don’t even think about making her cheat on Peter otherwise I will kill you Sami.”
“Fine.” He sighed.

After that Sami looked over at me. I hated this fact, ever since Fernando and I had broken up, I’d had sex with Roy. And as for Fernando we became friends with benefits before I ended it. I did not need anyone to hit on me right now. “Summer…” Sami smiled. “We had amazing chemistry when we sang together the other month.”
“We did.” I admitted, remembering us singing the Spice Girls together.
“And plus you’re my type. Tall and blond.”
“That’s my type too, tall and blond and your that.”
“So what harm would it do?” He smiled at me and I thought of how I’d been ridiculing Abbey in my head moments ago, but here I was falling for the same old crap. “That’s weird.” Abbey put in. “One moment he’s coming onto me, the next he’s coming onto you.”

Alex decided to cut in then. “Sami, find some other girl to hit on. Summer is over Fernando, but she is still on the rebound.” Fernando and I looked at one another awkwardly when she said that. To tell the truth we were both on the rebound, in fact, if anyone wanted to jump into bed with us right now we wouldn’t hesitate at saying yes. I looked away from Fernando too much eye contact I thought, don’t want to give him the wrong idea again after he told me he loved me. Phil Jagielka sensed the awkwardness going on so stood up and said: “Next round is on me.”
“I’ll help you with that.” I reply and walk away from the table, ready to help him with the drinks. He ordered everyone’s drinks which was the same as before and I turned to him. “Sorry about the awkwardness then.”
“Summer, you don’t have to apologise to me. You and Fernando have history, it’d be ridiculous to ignore that.”
“Yeah, but still.”
“Look, were friends remember, nothing more than that, I don’t see why you’re apologising.”

I was apologising because lately my feelings for Phil Jagielka had heightened and I just felt bad whenever something Fernando related came up. “Neither do I.” I lied and smiled, he gave me a quick hug and we fetched the drinks, bringing them to the table.

The truth was I’d been chickening out of telling Phil Jagielka that I was ready for a relationship. Even though I was on the rebound still, I knew he wasn’t the rebound guy, I knew that if I went out with him all this rebound stuff would be over. However, how could I show him that? How could I show him that I was ready for a relationship?

As we put the drinks down I looked at him happily. Watching him talk, the way his mouth moved in the most cutest way. I loved the way areas of his hair would be straight and curly. I also loved his passion for everything. He never put himself down, I wish I could have been more like that. And I watched him intently, before picking up my drink and taking a sip before getting myself back to reality. “So Summer, Phil Jagielka.” Steven began. “Fernando’s wondering why you two aren’t together yet?”
“Thanks Steven.” Fernando said sarcastically, before turning to Phil Jagielka, he held his hand out to him. “You both have my blessing to go out if you want. I understand.”
“Thanks, but you have nothing to worry about.” Phil Jagielka began. “Isn’t that right Summer?”
“Yeah.” I replied trying to act enthusiastically, even though my heart wasn’t really in it. Phil Jagielka continued. “Lately I feel we’ve really blossomed as friends.”
“Yeah, we don’t need to be a couple.” I laughed awkwardly and took another sip of my drink.

Thankfully Sami Hyypia took the attention off of us. “See that girl over there, soon I’m going to be in her pants!” He replied and ran off over to this girl, I raised my eyebrow and was relieved that Sami was no longer trying to get into my pants. “I’m just off to the loo.” Phil Jagielka said and when he was gone Fernando leaned in close towards me. “Summer, I thought you liked him?”
“I do like him, were good friends.”
“Well, we both know you like him more than that.”
“I do, but I can’t say anything otherwise he’ll think I’m on the rebound. I have to wait for him which is going to take about a million years, if our history has anything to go by.”

When he returned Phil Jagielka was itching his arm. “What’s the matter?” I asked him.
“Your dog, allergic remember?”
“Oh yeah, I always forget that. Probably because I was drunk when you told me that the first time.”
“Yeah.” He smiled. “And if I was clever I would’ve asked you out then.” When he said that I waited hopefully that he’d ask me out, but that moment never came. Instead he turned to Steven and Alex. “So what are we all up to tomorrow?”
“I’m going to go home and listen to the Beatles.” Abbey spoke out and Fernando turned to her and smiled. “You’re a Beatles fan?”
“Yeah.”
“No way!” He laughed. “I’m a Beatles fan too.”
“Finally, someone who likes them! Peter doesn’t like them.” She states.
“Yeah…” Fernando said backing off slightly.

Alex then spoke up. “Were off to take the kids to Cadbury’s world.”
“That’s awesome!” I say.
“Yeah.” Phil Jagielka agrees.
“What about you two?” Steven asked.
“Probably watching a film.” I state.
“Aww… The couple is already staying at home.” Steven retaliated.
“Were not a couple!” Phil Jagielka and I protested simultaneously.

Moments later Sami returned to the table. “Dammit that girl didn’t think I was Steven Gerrard.”
“Gee, I wonder why.” Alex replied grinning.
“I need a new plan.” Sami sighed, putting his head on the table before looking at me again. “So Summer, where were we?”
“I’m fine Sami, just go back to your picking up girls somewhere else.”
“This isn’t over.” He responded before walking over to a red head girl. After he did that, a girl suddenly walked over to our table and looked at Phil Jagielka. “Hey Phil, I just noticed you here, so thought I’d come and say hello.”
“Hi Sandra.” He replied somewhat nervous. “Sandra, this is Summer my friend and Summer this my ex.”
“Nice to meet you.” I responded suddenly terrified, what was this woman doing here trying to get on my territory? Ok, calm down Summer, your not a dog. And Phil Jagielka is certainly not your territory.

And to make matters worse Rapper came into the bar. “Oh no!” I complained and ducked under the table. Just what I need my arch nemesis and Phil Jagielka’s ex right by me. Great. “Can we talk outside?” This Sandra biatch asked Phil Jagielka and he was all like: “Sure.” I felt like miming her words, but had to stay inconspicuous. Suddenly I saw Rapper’s shoes, he’d joined the table and I thought what the hell and tied his shoe laces together. He was too busy chatting away to notice thankfully. And just when I thought I was safe I heard Abbey say: “Why is Summer hiding underneath the table?” It was too late, I got up from underneath the table and grabbed the ketchup on the middle of the table and squirted it at his shirt. He looked down at what I’d done in shock. “How dare you?! You imbecile!” Rapper said to me, but then his wife joined him she looked slightly annoyed. “Oh Rafa, what have you done to your shirt? Your just going to have to get it changed. Come on.” She led him out the bar and as they left I saw Rapper wave his fist at me. Once again I’ve won. Take that Rapper.

Fernando turned to me. “As if I didn’t need my manager to hate me anymore.” He states.
“He found out my secret hiding place.”
“Summer, under the table isn’t a secret hiding place.” He replied.
“It was, because I tied his laces together fine and just as I said that I looked out the window to see Rapper fall, I then decided to do an evil laugh as it was appropriate for the situation. “Muhahahahaha!” I laughed and the whole group was staring at me weirdly. And then I looked to outside again, only to see Sandra kiss Phil Jagielka on the cheek, suddenly my evil laugh went downhill and was more like a whimper.

How dare she kiss my man?! Well, he wasn’t my man, but he was my possible man. Jealousy is not going to get the better of me I thought and then Fernando looked at me. “Are you ok?” He asked.
“Yeah, it’s just a kiss on the cheek, nothing more to it. Plus Phil Jagielka and I are friends, so it’s nothing.”
“Are you really going to pretend it’s nothing when you told us your feelings earlier?”
“Fernando, your reading into this too much.” I decided to change the subject. “So Abbey what is it you love about the Beatles?” Suddenly she had Fernando’s full attention and Sami rejoined us at the table. Once again defeated. I saw Phil Jagielka walking in. “Fernando kiss me on the cheek.” I told him.
“What?! No.”
“Fine, Sami. Kiss me on the cheek.”
“Ok.” He replied, but instead of doing that he grasped my face and kissed me right on the lips and when I pulled away I was slightly spellbound, now I knew why he had bedded so many women. Maybe he’d want to take me home. I slapped myself across the face and Phil Jagielka looked at me confused. “Why are you slapping yourself across the face?”
“No reason. So what happened with you and Sandra?” I paused, realising I was straight to the point. “Not that I care, because Sami is a good kisser.” I looked away embarrassed at what I’d just said.

Phil Jagielka thought for a moment and said: “Well, to be honest she wanted to get back together with me. She’s got this great opportunity in India, but she said that if there’s a chance of us being together she’ll stay with me.”
“Oh, well you said no, didn’t you? I mean, come on, you can’t let her miss this opportunity.”
“That’s true, I agree, but it’s complicated because she was the one person I loved very much. I was so upset when we broke up.” Phil Jagielka turned to me and looked into my eyes. “What do you think I should do Summer?” He asked and I thought why does he have to ask me? I thought about being selfish and telling him to let her go, but I couldn’t do that. “I think you should follow your heart.” I informed him, before standing up.
“Where are you going?” He asked.
“Home.”
“How come?”
“Tired, I’ll see you either tonight or tomorrow though, yeah?”
“Yeah.” He responded and I started walking out of the pub, only to feel someone following me, I turned around and saw Sami there. “No Sami, you’re not going home with me?”
“Why not?”
“Because I’m not one of those dumb, blond bimbos you pick up.”
“How very dare you?! Those blond bimbos deserve your respect.”
“No, they don’t. And I know because eight months ago I was one of them.” I replied and walked out of the pub.

Just as I was about to carry on walking home I heard a voice behind me. “Hey.” The voice said and I turned around to see Fernando standing there.
“Fernando.” I smiled.
“Are you going to tell him how you feel?”
“No.”
“Why not? Do it before it’s too late.”
“Fernando, if Phil Jagielka is supposed to be with this woman then he’s supposed to be with her. I’m not going to get in the way of that.”
“But if you don’t do something you’ll get hurt.”
“Sometimes that’s the way it goes. Don’t go telling him how I feel about him, I’d prefer him not to know until after he’s made a decision.”
“Ok. Night Summer.”
“Night Fernando.”

And with that I walked home, hoping and praying that maybe, just maybe Phil Jagielka would choose to let this girl go. And why? Well, hopefully because he loves me more than he loves her. However, that idea seemed hopeless right now. So I made my way upstairs to my room, got changed in my pyjamas and fell asleep. A good night’s sleep was what I needed after tonight.

Little did I know that the following morning I’d wake up with one Hell of a bigger shock than Phil Jagielka‘s girlfriend troubles... “Ok, Sami what are you doing in my bed?!” I complained. “I know I had a few to drink but I don’t think I was stupid enough to go home with you.”
“Relax, I stalked Phil back here and sneaked into your room whilst he wasn’t looking.”
“Ok, that’s really creepy.”
“I just thought that when you saw me in my underwear that you’d go crazy.” He lifted up the blanket, revealing his body, just boxer shorts covering any part of him up. The next thing I know he practically throws himself on me and starts kissing my mouth. I push him away from me in shock. “Ok, that’s practically rape!” I complained to him.
“Oh please, you like my attention.”
“Ok, maybe a little.” I blushed. “Dammit, I’ve got to get off the rebound.”
“No, you don’t. Stick with the rebound. Sleep with me. It’s all going to a good cause.”
“How is me sleeping with you going to a good cause?” I wondered.
“Well, you make me get one closer to my two hundredth lover and my three hundred lover and so on.”
“Ok, get out.”
“But I need to get laid!” He protests. “None of the girls in that darn pub are falling for my charms.”
“Get out before I cut off a certain part which means you won’t ever get one more lover let alone two hundred.”

Suddenly he was screaming and pulling on his clothes. Hey, even Phil Jagielka walked into the room shocked at all the commotion. “Save yourself Phil!” Sami yelled before leaving my home.

After he was gone and Phil Jagielka got over that strange moment and he sat on my bed. “I’ve no idea what to do about Sandra.” He told me honestly.
“I gave you advice last night.”
“I know, but it’s so hard to follow your heart, when you don’t know what your heart wants.”
“Do you know what I think Phil Jagielka?”
“What?”
“I think you should be with her.”
“Wait, really?”
“Yeah, you wouldn’t be thinking this much if she didn’t mean a lot to you.”
“Your right. Thanks Summer.”
“No problem.” I smiled and then Phil Jagielka left my room and left the house, ready to confess his love to Sandra.

And this upset me deeply. Why did he have to be with her when there was someone right here who was more than ready to be with him? And I just lay there crying feeling more upset than ever. I even found myself picking up the phone and calling Roy. He answered within one ring. “Roy, can you come over please?”
“Sure.” He responded and hanged up.

He was here almost immediately, in my room, he climbed on the bed and asked me: “What’s the matter?”
“I just need to forget, I need to forget everything for a while.”
“I can do that.” He grinned. “Who’d have thought that you’d be easier to get into bed than when I first met you?” He smiles and moves his arms around me and presses his lips to mine, as he did so I pulled away from him though. “What’s the matter?” He asked.
“Nothing. Just thinking.”
“Ok.”
“Do you think Phil Jagielka still has feelings for me?” I wondered.
“Don’t know, hey, can I have your credit card?” I thought for a moment, trying to let those words sink in. I looked at Roy in disbelief. “What? No! So this is what you wanted, get out!”
“Summer.”
“I thought I told you to get out!” I warned him and thankfully he left, leaving me alone.

When he was gone I started making my way down the stairs, only for the front door to then burst open. Upon seeing me Phil Jagielka ran up the stairs towards me. He smiled and picked me up and spun me round on the stairs. I’m guessing he’s back with Sandra. “Summer, I don’t need Sandra.” He told me happily. “I’m better off without her.” He put me down and kissed the top of my head. I couldn’t take all this in. “So what? Your not with her?”
“Yeah, I told her no and here I am.” When he spoke these words to me I suddenly got a little coy about what I was going to say next, but it had to be asked. “Was there any reason why you don’t want to be with her?”
“Umm… I’m not sure.” He replied. “I just felt it wasn’t right and I thought that you’d be happy that I’m not with Sandra.”
“Why did you think I’d be happy about it?” I wondered.
“Because I just do. Right let’s get something to eat.”
“Ok.” I smile happily and link arms with Phil Jagielka as we make our way down the stairs…
