Sugar Rush

03

The event had long since ended, only a small clean-up crew was left really besides Mario who was profusely thanking Loraine with Jordan practically attached to her. Allison was almost dead sure Mario was telling her that if she and Jordan wanted to get married in a whirl-wind Vegas styled wedding that evening he’d be the witness with how she’d decorated to quickly and to his specific directions.

Shaking her head Allison laughed as Marc-Andre, one of the last players to leave, waved at her wildly with large boxes of desserts to take home. She’d made sure everyone left with something. Every player, every kid, every parent, every server, she literally was forcing everyone at the door to take a cupcake and a small drink home with them if not a box of stuff.

Lifting her hand she smiled and waved at the odd goal tender leave.

“I think you successfully just broke every player on my team’s diet for the next few years in one night and a few ‘left over boxes’ as you put it.” She spun around to see Sidney Crosby still sitting at a table. He was watching her with a pointed look and one raised brow. She swallowed nervously not sure if that look was something more than a slightly irritated Captain’s physical irritation coming out.

“Well,” She responded coolly. “I noticed you don’t have one of these said ‘left over boxes’.” She placed her hands behind her back. Sidney shrugged with a slight roll of his broad shoulders and a tip of his head in a nonchalant way. “I’m not going to have to nearly force one into your hands like Mr. Letang, am I Mr. Crosby?” Sidney’s brows rose at her.

“Okay,” He laughed with one hand raised, the other still holding the back of the chair as he sat sideways in it. “First. Mr. Crosby is my father, I’m Sid.” She shrugged at him in a nonchalant way to mimic him and all he could think to do was punish her. “Secondly. You forced him to take it?” Allison only smiled at him innocently.

“Now where did you hear that I forced someone to do something? That’s just rude.” She responded. “I’d never force anyone to do anything.” She gave him another innocent look that made his blood run hot.

He rolled his jaw and licked his lips, his eyes scanned her from head to toe in a way that she could only place as sexual hunger. The look made her blood run hot.

“I don’t know. I must have unreliable sources.” Sidney stood slowly. He smoothed out his suit jacket, watching his hands to calm himself down as best he could. “But,” She bit her lip as he brought his dark gaze to her. She could’ve sworn earlier that evening they were more of a golden-brown, almost hazel color. “I do know this,” He walked towards her and the simple steps alone made the hairs on the back of her neck raise in anticipation. “I would like to take you out sometime.” and right into my bed was the rest of the sentence he didn’t voice verbally but his eyes said it all to her. “Could I see again after tonight?” He asked carefully.

“Umm…” Allison’s brain unclouded at the laughs somewhere behind her in the distance letting her know they weren’t alone. Turning she looked at Loraine, Jordan, and Mario laughing at whatever had been said. She looked back at Sidney who was watching her carefully, with a hopeful look in his dark eyes. “I’m sorry.” She whispered. Her body and her heart held a protest as her brain argued it was the better. “I don’t think it’d be a good idea. Besides,” She stated watching him. He looked crushed and that in turn crushed her with how much she wanted to agree happily and eagerly but the business woman in her knew if Mario found out she’d never get to help host an event with the Penguins ever again. “Why would someone like you want someone like me?”

That sentence sparked utter rage in Sidney. He didn’t understand what she meant. Someone like him verses someone like her? First she turned him down and now it sounded like she was insulting him? He was wrong though, she was insulting herself.

“I mean,” She took in a deep breath to explain herself as his brows narrowed at her. “You’re fit, and successful, and handsome, and you could have whoever you wanted in this whole city.” Shrugging she watched the anger on his face morph and melt into confusion.

If she thought that of him, why turn him down?

“I’m almost none of that.” Allison stated. “I’ll I have is success. I’m not fit, clearly,” She waved her hands at her chubby form. “I’m not beautiful and I can’t have whoever I want. I’m basic and average…” She pursed her lips inward. “And fat. Why would you want fat, boring, ugly, old me?” Sidney was instantly furious again and he didn’t bother to hide it.

“You’re beautiful.” Sidney stated carefully, not to let his anger get the best of him. “I’ve never,” She watched as he hissed the words at her to make his point. “Found anyone more beautiful and attractive than you. So what if you’re a little out of shape? Who cares, I think it makes you that much more gorgeous.” He admitted. “You’re not afraid to be human and eat. You don’t starve yourself. I…” he floundered, his emotions flooding him. “You are thee most beautiful and sexy woman I’ve ever meet. All I’ve wanted to do is talk to you, and I’ll admit it, drag you out of this ballroom and have my way with you for hours.” Her cheeks flushed and her heart raced. “And every time I talked to you tonight you proved you were more beautiful and sexy than I originally thought. You’re smart, you’re kind, and you’re as sweet as your desserts.” He lifted his arms up. “All I want it to take you to dinner. Nothing else, just a nice simple date to dinner.” He finished with a little defeated. “Please.” He asked softly.

It was her turn to flounder as she watched him. No man had ever told her what he had, atleast not with such emotion behind his words. Tucking some hair behind her ears she licked her lips trying to decide on what to do. Her body and her heart said drag him from the ballroom and let him have his way with her, and her brain told her not to.

In the end, her brain won.

The situation seemed too good to be true, and like her Grandmother always used to tell her. “If something seems too good to be true then it usually is.”

“Allison.” She turned at the call from her assistant. Cassie began waving her over. “We have a problem at the bakery.” Cassie yelled flustered.

“Oh-okay.” Allison called back. She looked at Sidney who was waiting for an answer. “I’m sorry.” Was all she said before she turned leaving quickly. She couldn’t bear to look back knowing if she did she’d probably run right back to him and kiss him, making a total fool of herself in front of everyone.
