She Will Be Loved

Comes Back and Begs Me to Catch Her Every Time She Falls

She walked down the roads alone and in silence, the vehicles that passed her and her boots that sloshed through the few muddy puddles being the only sort of noise she could hear. The gloomy skies above felt intimidating as a low rumble of thunder resounded throughout them, and even through her jacket and denim jeans, the chilly air nipped away at her. The weather was clearly starting to reflect the inner turmoil she had been feeling for the past few days.

It had been a month since she left Forks High and began her homeschooling with her siblings and Esme, and things were going well for the most part. The only thing she was missing was Jacob. He was the last piece to the puzzle.

She had tried to forget, had tried to cast aside her feelings, lock them away and throw away the key, but it was useless. He plagued her every thought, made up her every dream, and though it hurt her to think of the boy she wanted to abandon, she wouldn’t have it any other way. Thinking of him brought her both pain and pleasure. She was willing to endure it, but she knew one day she’d want more than just having him in spirit, and after re-reading one message he had sent a few days after receiving her voice-mail, she knew she couldn’t wait any more.

“I’ll let you have some time to yourself, but don’t try and handle everything on your own. Confide in me. Just know that you can come to me anytime you want. I’m here for you, Quinn. I’ll always be here for you.
I love you.”

That text had been a godsend for her while she was adjusting to her new routine. It was what gave her strength, what lifted her spirits, and what made her remember why she was able to keep going. Without those words, the days without him would have been even more unbearable than they already were.

She was so lost in thought while thinking about Jacob and his sweet message, that she didn’t even register the car that was keeping pace with her on the side of the road. The driver, becoming restless, honked at her, startling Quinn and making her jump. The brunette stopped and turned to see Michelle behind the wheel, her dark eyes gazing at the brunette in concern.

Michelle parked the car and got out, sauntering around the front and enveloping her friend. “Quinn, I haven’t heard from you in forever. Why haven’t you returned my texts or calls?”

“Oh, I just haven’t had time, and I want to focus on my homeschooling. I’ve just had a lot on my mind since I left Forks.” She explained lamely.

Michelle rolled her eyes at the girl and gave a sigh. “Well, at least you don’t look as bad as I thought. The day after that fight, Kimberly and Mason went around school telling everyone how they got some good punches at you before Hamilton came. I was really worried and I would’ve actually visited, but I’ve been busy with studying for finals.” She stated, giving her friend a bit of a quick look over. “Though, it’s easy to see you haven’t been sleeping well. You have a few bags underneath your eyes.”

“Yeah, like I’ve said, a lot’s been on my mind lately.” Quinn then realized something and she turned to Michelle with confusion etched upon her face. “What are you doing here, Michelle? It’s well into fourth period right now. I thought you were worried about school?”

Chuckling lightly, the ebony haired girl scratched the back of her neck sheepishly. “Well, I was studying so late last night that I ended up oversleeping. My alarm didn’t even wake me up. It’s not a problem though, we’re just reviewing and I do better when I’m alone so it’s no sweat off my back.”

“So Monroe and Davey got off scot-free? That’s a little disappointing.”

The ends of Michelle’s lips twitched and soon were lifted up into a sly smirk. “Not exactly; I had words with Hamilton and let him know that they were up to no good. He was furious, livid even. I thought he might go after their throats with the face he was making.” She chuckled, causing Quinn to smile softly. “He brought them in and scolded them, suspended them for a week, and they’re no longer welcomed to Prom or the graduation ceremony. Not to mention it’s going on their permanent records.”

“Well, that makes me feel better.”

“Yeah, to be honest, it’s like a totally different place now. I’ve never seen Forks so tame this year. It’s like everyone’s gotten the stick out of their ass now.”

The two girls sat upon the hood of her car, chatting away for a few more minutes and talking about a few of the things that had been happening at school and at home. They hadn’t been able to connect this much in months, and it felt good to do so again. Quinn had forgotten how good it felt to have a real girlfriend to talk to. And soon, when Michelle’s phone began to vibrate with a call from a friend during the school’s lunch time, they knew it was time for them to say their goodbyes. As Michelle got in, she waved one final time and quickly ordered for Quinn to stay in touch before driving off speedily.

Watching her taillights disappear around a corner, the brunette was once again left alone and heading back to her destination, it taking her no longer than five minutes to reach the bus stop’s bench. The wind began to pick up little by little, bringing with it darker colored clouds and a higher possibility of rain.

She would have taken her car today, after all it wasn’t like she wanted to walk through this weather, but she needed some time to think about what she would say to Jacob when she got there, and the lengthy trip to the reservation on this form of public transportation would provide just that.

And so with her stomach beginning to accumulate the butterflies she had been dying to feel once more, she waited impatiently for the next bus out of Forks, wanting to see the brown eyes that captured her heart.
