Unexplainable Thoughts

Chapter Twenty Four

As soon as last school bell rang, most of the students in our English class ran out of the room, while Missy, Finn, and I stayed behind. When the last student had left the room, Laurence shut the door, and we all gathered around his desk as he sat down.

"I'm guessing you know why we're here?" Finn asking, sending a questioning look towards Laurence.

"Yes, I heard everything during lunch, and Ver filled me in on some other things during class." He smiled softly, nodding his head towards me.

"Oh, so you're a telepath? Or a psychic? Ver said that you were a mind-reader, but what exactly can you do? What exactly are you?" Finn narrowed his eyes, looking at Laurence.

"For years I had the impression that I was just a mind-reader or a telepath, but recently I've learned that I also can receive visions, like a clairvoyant, but I think that's mainly due to Ver." He smiled at me and chuckled before continuing. "So just consider me a telepath, to make it easier for you."

"Okay, now that that's out of the way... Let's figure out this whole 'mate' situation going on in this area." I said, motioning to Finn and Missy, who were sitting relatively close to one another.

"Considering that we know that Finn is a trained warlock, we can somehow figure out what Missy's gift is. All gifts are connected in some way or another, whether in strength, or the gift itself. We can also use Missy's normal talents to help narrow down the options." Laurence explained.

"Umm, I'm sitting right here, ya know? I don't appreciate you talking like I'm not here." She pouted, acting dramatic.

"Oh my god, Missy, just cooperate with us here. I'm guessing you want to know what your gift is just as much as we do, so help us." I begged.

"Fine." She stuck her tongue out at me (just because) before speaking again. "So, my talents? Umm... I'm not really that great at anything. I'm just not super talented." She shrugged her shoulders, looking defeated.

"Missy! Are you kidding me? You're super smart! You're the most organized person I know! You're awesome when it comes to school." I tried convincing her, but she interrupted me.

"That's not a talent though! I can't win a talent show for reading Shakespeare and then explaining what it meant! That's not how it works, Ver." She argued.

"Well, I know one thing you're good at that has nothing to do with school... And that's dance! You're crazy good at dancing! It's basically your life! How can you say that you're not good at anything when you kick ass at dancing?" I reprimanded her, and she blushed.

"Dancing? I've also noticed in the short while that I've known you that you're very graceful and you enjoy literature, correct?" Missy nodded, blushing at Laurie's comments.

"Now, Missy, do either of your parents have a short temper or seem to make others feel at ease when they're around them?" Laurie asked.

"Well, I live with my older brother right now. But when I was younger I lived with my parents. They're always traveling around so I don't talk to them all that often. I guess my mom can have a temper sometimes, but only towards certain people. Oh, and my mom was a nurse before my parents started traveling, so yeah." Missy spoke, sounding a little uncertain.

Laurence chuckled before clapping his hands together once, smiling happily at Missy.

"I knew it! I knew it! I knew it!" Laurie chanted, laughing to himself.

"Laurie! Just tell us what Missy is already!" I yelled, growing impatient.

He just chuckled and smirked at me before speaking.
"Okay, with all of things that we know, I have deduced what Missy is. Now, don't go and start thinking of stereotypes when I say it, but... Missy is a fairy."

"A fairy?" Missy and I had spoken at the same time, while Finn just leaned back in his chair with a smug smile on his face.

"I had the feeling that she was when I first heard her voice." Finn nodded his head, obviously knowing about fairies already.

"Okay, please explain to the women in the room what being a fairy entails?" I glared pointedly at Laurie who rolled his eyes.

"Obviously Missy isn't a tiny fairy, like Tinkerbell. Unlike so many interpretations, fairies look like normal human beings. Pixies are the ones that are small, and they have wings, while fairies do not. Pixies are also more on the dark side of magic. Fairies have the ability to use magic, but only for healing and to change the emotions of others. Most fairies can use their magic for defense by making others feel as though they are in pain, when they really aren't. Fairies are also known to be very graceful, but they create very strong relationships with others, and they tend to be very harsh towards people that they don't like, even if they haven't even met them yet. They're also not too fond of sharing belongings, as well as people they have made relationships with." Laurence finished speaking, and I giggled.

"He's right, Missy, you really suck at sharing. Is that why you got so crazy about me being friends with Finn?." I laughed, and she glared at me before muttering "shut up."

"So, why can't I use magic yet?" Missy asked after a few moments of awkward silence had passed.

"You've probably been using magic for quite a while, but you just haven't noticed it." Laurence shrugged.

"Just try to change someone's emotions or something. I'm sure it'll work." Finn urged Missy, and she nodded.

After a moment of staring at the ground and chewing on her bottom lip, I got sick of waiting.

Missy, just try to do something to me. Make me... uh... make me sad or something.

She looked up at me and nodded her head.

"Ready?" She asked, sounding nervous.

"Yep, just try to change my emotions or something." I muttered, closing my eyes and waiting to feel a rush of... something.

I sat there for about five seconds before suddenly feeling a sharp pain come across the side of my face.

"What the fu-?!" I opened my eyes, holding the left side of my face as Finn, Laurie, and Missy stared at me.

"Who the hell slapped me?! Just because I close my eyes, doesn't mean that you can-" I didn't finish my sentence because I felt another wave of pain hit my cheek.

"That's what you get for saying that I can't share." Missy smirked at me.

I groaned in response, rubbing my face.
"I can't believe how real that felt. It felt like you hit me in the face with a fucking 2 by 4."

"I really don't enjoy it when you surprise me and bring me to your house, instead of bringing me home. I know that you know that's what I'm thinking, obviously." I rolled my eyes as I walked into Laurie's house, instantly dropping myself onto his couch.

I could hear him chuckle as he made his way upstairs, probably to change into some more comfortable clothes. I took off my jacket and backpack, placing it on his dining room table, before going back to the living room. I decided to snoop around, looking at all of the books and knick-knacks that were piled on a bookshelf that took up one wall of the living room.

Unsurprisingly, most of the books were classics and books that he was more-than-likely forced to read in college. As I looked near the bottom shelf though, something caught my eye. I kneeled down to get a better look, and found a relevantly old-looking book. It was a brown-color, the binding barely keeping the pages together anymore, and the title had worn off after years of use. I opened the book, the title page reading: "A History of Rosaline Carter High School" in large letters. I flipped through a few pages, skimming certain passages before my eyes rested on a photograph.

I could feel my stomach turn as I stared at the picture, trying to understand it. In the photo, a couple stood together in each other's arms, smiling brightly at the camera. They were standing in front of a building, and as I looked closely, I realized that they were standing in front of the school. Their faces chilled me to my bones, yet I couldn't help but stare at them.

The couple looked to be in their 30's, but their faces were unquestionable. The man looked like an exact copy of James, albeit a bit older. While the woman... the woman looked like me. I couldn't help but feel as if I was looking at a mirror as I stared into her eyes. The sudden urge to throw up came over me, but a few deep breaths later and I felt fine, except for the fact that I was extremely confused. I shrieked as a hand found it's way onto my shoulder, but I turned around, relieved to see Laurence smiling sadly down at me.

"I had a feeling that you would find that someday." He spoke vaguely as he wandered over to sit on the couch, patting the seat next to him for me to sit down.

As I made my way over to him, I noticed that he was now wearing a black v-neck and a pair of gray sweatpants. I settled myself down next to him with the book in my lap, awaiting his explanation.

"The people in that picture are Jamison Reglara and his wife, Rosaline. They were very rich and had donated money to the town to build the school, which was named after Rosaline, whose maiden name was Carter. Jamison Reglara was James' great-grandfather who started the Regla clan. Now don't worry, I've traced it back, and Rosaline is not related to you in the slightest, but to everyone but the Regla clan, it's just a coincidence that you look like her. I did some research, and the reason why James and his father want you so badly, is because they believe that you are a reincarnation of Rosaline. They believe that if you and James would reproduce, that this phenomena would occur once again, and their legacy would live on forever. No matter what anyone says to them, they just won't believe that it's not true, and they won't believe that you're not James' mate." Laurence explained, shaking his head.

"Wow... So that's why James won't leave me alone? I had no idea... That's just crazy. And there's nothing we can do to stop it?" I wondered, looking up at Laurie.

"The only way I can think of is if we kill that little asshole of a shapeshifter." Laurie growled, his jaw clenching.

"We can't just kill him!" I shrieked, scared that Laurie would do something drastic.

"We can't kill him... But I can." He spoke, still sounding aggravated.

"If you kill him, then the whole Regla clan will be after you! Then you'll end up dead too! Killing him is not an option." I spoke sternly to him, making him look at me.

"I cannot lose you. You will not kill him, understand?" I narrowed my eyes at him, listening to his thoughts to make sure he tells the truth.

Instead of answering me out loud, though, he must have sensed me invading his thoughts, and his voice resonated clearly in my head before he kissed me softly.

As long as you don't want him dead, I promise not to kill James. You have my word.
