Times Are Changing

Fiancee findinds and introducing daddy.

You know that feeling you get when someone is staring? Times that by six and imagine how that alertness would feel. Both David and I glanced over to see everyone watching us.

"Aww!" Gaby squealed, clutching onto John's arm. David chuckled as we walked over to them.

"I can't believe you didn't tell us," Amy, David's mom, scolded.

"I knew it," Henry, David's father, shrugged. His mom smacked his arm.

"I can't believe you didn't tell me your suspiciouns!" she was on a good one right now.

"Monique, that is disappointing," my mom sighed.

"We could have been one big family for his first Christmas," his mother whined.

"I'm sorry," I apologized with a weak expression.
"I was scared.'

"What for?" my dad inquired.

"Long story," David answered for me. I glanced at him and we both stared at each other for a moment. Maybe he understood where I was coming from now.

"I'm just glad you guys are a true family now," Gaby giggled.
"I mean it should've been obvious to everyone, look at them."

"Dominic does look a lot like David," John agreed.

"I had a feeling, to be honest, I guess I was just scared to know," David stammered. I glanced at him while biting my lip. I could only imagine how hard that would be told have a feeling that someone is your son, but scared to find out. I would freak out.

"The responsibility is the scary part," I say with a sharp exhale.
"It's not easy."

"I am ready for it," David enthuses.

"No one is," I correct. "It's not that simple."

"Well, we can do it together," he encouraged with an arm wrapped around me.

"What about Kiley?" David's mom inquires, a quirked brow and all.

"I'll deal with her later," David put off.

"Stop with that," I hiss. "Stop always procrastinating."

"Aye," David cooes. "It'll get done, now hush."

"No, David," his mom chimes. "You are engaged."

"Engaged?" I gasp, then push David away.

"Don't do that," David breaths out. The emotions that are intruding my entire being was overwhelming as the word 'engaged' repetitvely went through my mind. I closed my eyes then slowly reopened them.

"Wow," I choke out. I grab Dominic, smoothly lifting him onto my hip.
"Come on."

"Where are you going?" David calls as I fast walked to the cabin.

"I can't do this," I repeated over and over as I hurried to my destination.

"Stop!" David demanded, chasing after us. I quickened my pace, causing Dominic to laugh; thinking it was all a game. "Monique, stop!" David finally caught up to us when I tried slamming the door shut, however that failed.

"No, David," I growl. Gaby slyly came in and grabbed Dominic, taking him out of the battle field. Which isn't a good enviroment for him to be in, in the first place.

"Monique, it isn't a big deal," he reasoned.

"Isn't a big deal?" I repeat, then scoffed. "You haven't changed."

"What's that supposed to mean?" he narrows his eyes.

"You don't get it, this is the real world, you can't just ...can't just be engaged then break a girls heart without caring, that's wrong!" I scream.

"She's a bitch anyway," he spat back.

"So that means she deserves it?" I question.

"You agree she's a bitch?" he retorts.

"Answer my question, David. Why did you even propose if she's such a bitch?" I growl, folding my arms across my chest. "I am not a home wrecker, you have a good career and ugh!"

"Ugh?!" he repeats, being over dramatic and throwing his arms up in the air.
"Ugh to the guy that wants to make things right with his family?"

"A family you just found out you had, like what ten hours ago? Five?" I remind.

"Does the time limit matter? The fact is I have a son, I have a girl that God, I fucking love and can't stop thinking about. To the point that even Kiley makes remarks like, whoever the girl is she was lucky, or stupid to let you go, or fuck her cause she's fucked with your heart this and that, you don't even know Monique! If anything I am doing Kiley a favor by finally ending her insecurities simply because I have the girl that I have wanted since my relationship with her even started!" David ranted, staring me dead in the eyes the whole time. The intensity behind his stare was so bad that I had to look away.

"I don't want to ruin what is good in your life, you proposed to her for a reason, David," I repeated my whole point. A deep breath escaped from me before I returned my attention to him. "So answer my question then."

"Fine, because of business, that's why," he coldly replies. "Because she is popular and I am becoming there, and it would be good for our publicity, okay?"

"Wow," I laugh. "Putting marriage to shame."

"You asked," he hissed.

"Doesn't mean I have to like the answer," I groan.
"Then why did you walk so lovey dovey by the beach?"

"Just in case there is anyone around documenting us," he shrugs. Suddenly he paused and stared at me. "Why were you watching?" A stupid smirk came across his face.

"Don't go there," I point at him.
"It didn't mean anything.

"Yeah, sure," he teases.

"David," I sternly say. "I was comparing you and Dominic."

"Don't use our son in your selfish actions," he chuckled. It sounded so weird to hear him say 'our son', but at the same time I smiled a little.

"I just don't want you to feel obligated," I mutter.

"If I felt obligated, then I wouldn't want to be with you," he rudely states.
"I would just ask to help take care of him, seperately."

"You want to be with me?" I repeat, slowly blinking.

"Yes," he nods. "I miss you."

"Why?" I inquire, tilting my head to the side as I stared at him.

"You are my first love, I was stupid for letting you go. But I felt that you didn't care about me, as much as I do for you, because you didn't stop the drugs," he explains.

"Well you didn't stop seeing Chelsea," I remind.

"I liked getting you jealous," he immaturely giggled.

"Wow, that was manly," I snicker.

"Bite me," he retorts.

"Don't tempt me," I wink, then we just stared at each other. It was such an intense stare that I truly believed none of us were breathing, that we held our breath just for this moment.

"Mommy," Dominic came in with Gaby chasing after him.

"He's quick," she said out of breath, excusing the reason he was in the room.

"It's okay," I honestly say with a smile. Gaby returned my look then glared at David.

"Want me to punch him?" she offers, at which I laugh.

"No, no that wont be necessary," I giggle.

"Okay," she grins and left. Dominic leaned against me, then stared at David.

"To read his mind," David thought aloud.

"I always say the same thing," I sheepishly admit. David glanced at me, then returned his attention to Dominic.

"Hi, kiddo," he speaks. I could feel the awkwardness as he stared at Dominic with a questionable doubt on how to speak to the kid.

"Hi," Dominic shyly answers, biting his lip.

"Oh he's a lip biter, like his mom," David teased, quickly glancing at me.

"When I change him, he puts his hands behind his head all cocky like," I inform with a roll of his eyes.

"Another trait like his mother," David chuckled.

"Oh yeah, totally," I laugh. I lightly touch Dominic's arm and took in a deep breath.
"Dominic."

"Yeah?" Dominic glanced up at me.

"This is your daddy," I practically whisper.

"No," Dominic shook his head.

"Nathan is not your real daddy, Dominic," I try to explain.

"Huh?" Dominic glanced at David, staring intensely.

"This is your daddy," I choke out. Dominic furrowed his brows.

"Hi," David waved. Dominic returned the wave.

"Hi," Dominic politely greeted.

"Who am I?" David asks, I could see the fear of Dominic's possible reaction in his eyes.

"Daddy?" Dominic questions back. David smiled, causing Dominic to smile. Slowly Dominic pushed away from me and hesitantly went to David. I could only imagine how awkward this is for a kid that doesn't know anything really going on.

"Yeah, I'm your daddy," David whispers as he embraced Dominic in his arms. I stood up and stared at the two, as David was knelt down next to Dominic with his arms around him. Dominic nuzzled into David.

"I'm sorry," I whisper. It wasn't until now that I realized the point Gaby had made, and everyone else. It was wrong of me to have kept Dominic from David, no matter the circumstance. Unless David was abusive, or into drugs, or partying, or something drastic like that. I had no reason to keep his child away from him.
