Tayla Daniels

I've always dreamed of the day I'd make my mother and father proud of me. Not that they aren't proud of me now, I just want to make them really proud. My parents never went to college, actually my mum had me at a young age and couldn't handle being a mother and study all at once. Whereas my father, who has stood proudly beside my mother through everything, laid his hands on any job he could. Needless to say we aren't the richest of people. My father has a stable job in a local office, the pay isn't much and he works overtime a lot, but he knows how hard finding a new job would be. My mother, it feels like, has a new job every few months. She isn't a horrible worker, actually most people tell her she is great but just can't afford to keep her on much longer. That's why I, Tayla Daniels, am working my ass off to gain academic scholarship into one of the most prestigious schools in the country.
I'm 17, rather skinny, have brown hair with blonde tips, your average height and plain brown eyes. Really I'm nothing special. I like helping people, I always have, which is why I want to become a doctor. I'm the smartest girl at school, so it's not the grade I'm worried about. It's all the other people who want the scholarship. If I don't get it, I'll probably just end up working full time, even with a part time job I often have to help with the expenses at home and couldn't possibly afford college on my own, even though I know this isn't my parents fault, it'd be nice to have some money.
My best friend Alexis is pretty much exactly the opposite of me. I say let's do homework, she says let' play some ball. I want to stay home and get ahead on some readings, she drags me along to parties. In a way I owe her a lot, she has dragged me out of this shell I'm in and introduced me to a social life and more friends. In elementary school I didn't really have friends, so I like being accepted into a group, even if I don't really fit too well. The other two girls in our cliché, Indie and Faye, are party animals. I thought Alexis was bad, well these girls push it to a whole new level, but I know they will always have my back and truly are nice girls once you get to know them. The boys I'm not that close to, I often find myself just standing quietly next to Alexis as she discusses sports with them on a daily basis.
But anyway here it is, senior year. I have to put everything into this year, I have to work my ass off and right now is not the time to get distracted, at all.
